  • Paleomagnetic data have been obtained from the Lower Triassic Tonggo formation which is exposed in the E-W trending Baekunsan syncline comprising the Pyongan Supergroup in eastern Korea. Two ancient components of magnetization are recovered in this formation by detailed thermal demagnetization: a post-folding component and a pre-folding component The post-folding component ($D/I=58.8/55.5^{\circ}$) is normally magnetized and appears to acquire in the Cretaceous Normal Superchron. It is a magnetic signature of the Daebo Orogeny and has been rotated clockwise since this magnetization has been acquired, in common with the main synclinal axis. The pre-folding component ($D/I=1.1/19.4^{\circ}$, Paleopole at $306.1^{\circ}E$, $63.2^{\circ}N$) passes fold and reversal tests and is inferred to be a post-depositional or early chemical diagenetic remanence of Lower-Middle Triassic age. This paleopole corresponds only with the Lower Triassic poles from the North China Block: it is removed from the contemporary poles from the South China Block. If the result of this study is corrected for the clockwise rotation deduced from the Cretaceous overprint, the enhanced agreement with the Lower Triassic poles from the North China block can be achieved. Therefore, a first order correlation between the Korean Peninsula and North China at least since Lower Triassic times is identified in this study.

  • The elastic waves in the plate are dispersive waves with the characteristics of Lamb waves. However, $S_0$ symmetric mode is less dispersive in the frequency region less than first cut-off frequency. And, in anisotropic plates such as CFRP plates, the propagation velocities vary with the direction. So, the wave vector direction to be the phase velocity direction is not accord with the energy flow direction to be the group velocity direction. In this work, the group velocities of the $S_0$ symmetric mode less than the first cut-off frequency was analyzed with the group velocity dispersion curves in unidirectional CFRP plate. And, the group velocity curve obtained by the group velocity dispersion curves are compared with the measured velocities as varied the propagation direction of the Lamb wave. The measured velocities are good agreement with the corrected group velocity curve except near the fiber direction which is called the cusp region. When the propagation direction is not accorded with the principal axis, the direction of the group velocities declines to the fiber direction in the unidirectional CFRP plates. This implies that the energy propagates preferentially toward fiber direction.

  • A real-time OTF (optical transfer function) measuring system with on- and off-axis nodal slide bench type for the camera lens is fabricated and evaluated. It consists of a nodal slide bench including a T-bar for the OTF measurement of an off-axis object, two dimensional CCD (charge coupled device) with pixel of 9.9${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$9.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for real-time OTF measurment, and a collimating lens of focal length of 300 mm for the optimization of this system. The OTF system is corrected by using the OTF of a SIRA lens of fnumber of F/8 and focal length 50 mm. In order to confirm the reliability of the OTF system, two MTFs (modulus transfer functions) of CCTV & VIDEO lens (JAPAN, AVENIR-SE 2514) of focal length of 25mm and field of view 10.6$^{\circ}$are measured by the camera bench type OTF system of reference OTF system and the nodal slide bench type OTF system and compared with each other. As a result, these two values are agree well with each other within 4% from 0 1p/mm to 100 1p/mm.

  • Traffic data by vehicle classification are important data used as basic data in various fields such as road and traffic design. Traffic data is collected through permanent and temporary surveys and is provided as an annual average daily traffic (AATD) in the statistical yearbook of road traffic. permanent surveys are collected through traffic collection equipment (AVC), and the AVC consists of a loop sensor that detects traffic volume and a piezo sensor that detects the number of axes. Due to the nature of the buried type of traffic collection equipment, missing data is generated due to failure of detection equipment. In the existing method, it is corrected through historical data and the trend of traffic around the point. However, this method has a disadvantage in that it does not reflect temporal and spatial characteristics and that the existing data used for correction may also be a correction value. In this study, we proposed a method to correct the missing traffic volume by calculating the axis correction coefficient through the accumulated number of axes acquired by using a piezo sensor that can detect the axis of the vehicle. This has the advantage of being able to reflect temporal and spatial characteristics, which are the limitations of the existing methods, and as a result of comparative evaluation, the error rate was derived lower than that of the existing methods. The traffic volume correction system using axis count is judged as a correction method applicable to the field system with a simple algorithm.

  • Objective: Alveolar bone loss is a common adverse effect of intrusion treatment. Mandibular incisors are prone to dehiscence and fenestrations as they suffer from thinner alveolar bone thickness. Methods: Thirty skeletal class II patients treated with mandibular intrusion arch therapy were included in this study. Lateral cephalograms and cone-beam computed tomography images were taken before treatment (T1) and immediately after intrusion arch removal (T2) to evaluate the tooth displacement and the alveolar bone changes. Pearson's and Spearman's correlation was used to identify risk factors of alveolar bone loss during the intrusion treatment. Results: Deep overbite was successfully corrected (P < 0.05), accompanied by mandibular incisor proclination (P < 0.05). There were no statistically significant change in the true incisor intrusion (P > 0.05). The labial and lingual vertical alveolar bone levels showed a significant decrease (P < 0.05). The alveolar bone is thinning in the labial crestal area and lingual apical area (P < 0.05); accompanied by thickening in the labial apical area (P < 0.05). Proclined incisors, non-extraction treatment, and increased A point-nasion-B point (ANB) degree were positively correlated with alveolar bone loss. Conclusions: While the mandibular intrusion arch effectively corrected the deep overbite, it did cause some unwanted incisor labial tipping/flaring. During the intrusion treatment, the alveolar bone underwent corresponding changes, which was thinning in the labial crestal area and thickening in the labial apical area vice versa. And increased axis change of incisors, non-extraction treatment, and increased ANB were identified as risk factors for alveolar bone loss in patients with mandibular intrusion therapy.

  • Objective : The aim of this study was to investigate clinical and radiological outcomes of patients who underwent posterior vertebral column resection (PVCR) by a single neurosurgeon in a single institution. Methods : Thirty-four consecutive patients with severe spinal deformities who underwent PVCR between 2010 and 2016 were enrolled. The radiographic measurements included a kyphotic angle of PVCR levels (VCR angle), sagittal vertical axis (SVA), thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis (LL), and spinopelvic parameters. The data of surgical time, estimated blood loss, duration of hospital stay, complications, intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring, and the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)-22 questionnaire were collected using a retrospective review of medical records. Results : The VCR angle, LL, and SVA values were significantly corrected after surgery. The VCR and LL angle were changed from the average of $38.4{\pm}32.1^{\circ}$ and $-22.1{\pm}39.1^{\circ}$ to $-1.7{\pm}29.4^{\circ}$ (p<0.001) and $-46.3{\pm}23.8^{\circ}$ (p=0.001), respectively. The SVA was significantly reduced from $103.6{\pm}88.5mm$ to $22.0{\pm}46.3mm$ (p=0.001). The clinical results using SRS-22 survey improved from $2.6{\pm}0.9$ to $3.4{\pm}0.8$ (p=0.033). There were no death and permanent neurological deficits after PVCR. However, complications occurred in 19 (55.9%) patients. Those patients experienced a total of 31 complications during- and after surgery. Sixteen reoperations were performed in twelve (35.3%) patients. The incidence of transient neurological deterioration was 5.9% (two out of 34 patients). Conclusion : Severe spinal deformities can be effectively corrected by PVCR. However, the PVCR technique should be utilized limitedly because surgery-related serious complications are relatively common.

  • Due to the fact that fisheye lens can provide super wide angles with the minimum number of cameras, field-of-view over 180 degrees, many vehicles are attempting to mount the camera system. Not only use the camera as a viewing system, but also as a camera sensor, camera calibration should be preceded, and geometrical correction on the radial distortion is needed to provide the images for the driver's assistance. In this thesis, we introduce a geometric correction technique to minimize the loss of the image data from a vehicle fish-eye lens having a field of view over $180^{\circ}$, and a asymmetric distortion. Geometric correction is a process in which a camera model with a distortion model is established, and then a corrected view is generated after camera parameters are calculated through a calibration process. First, the FOV model to imitate a asymmetric distortion configuration is used as the distortion model. Then, we need to unify the axis ratio because a horizontal view of the vehicle fish-eye lens is asymmetrically wide for the driver, and estimate the parameters by applying a non-linear optimization algorithm. Finally, we create a corrected view by a backward mapping, and provide a function to optimize the ratio for the horizontal and vertical axes. This minimizes image data loss and improves the visual perception when the input image is undistorted through a perspective projection.

  • Purpose: Pincer nail is a relatively rare deformity characterized by an increase in transverse curvature along the longitudinal axis of the nail. This curvature commonly increases from proximal to distal end of nail, leading to pinching, curling, and distortion of the underlying soft tissue and resulting frequently in severe pain. Numerous surgical procedures have been reported. Preserving the width of the nail in the correction of the pincer nail is very important for functional and aesthetic reasons. We report the results of the correction of the pincer nail using autogenous dermofat graft with a good result. Methods: From May 2006 to September 2008, dermofat graft was performed in 6 patients with pincer nail. Patients were four women and two men, and the average age was 51. The affected digits were the unilateral great toes in four patients and the unilateral thumbs in two patients. Average follow-up period was 13 months. Surgical procedure was removal of nail using an elevator to avoid damage to the nail bed. An incision was created in distal portion of hyponychium. Paronychium was dissected from distal phalanx by periosteal elevator through incision of hyponychium and tunnel was made. Then dermofat grafts harvested from inguinal area were inserted into the tunnel. Finally, a silicone sheet was inserted eponychial fold for prevention of synechia. Objective assessment was evaluated by use of the width index and height index. Results: All patients reported resolution of the pain and soft tissue pinching sensation that they had before the operation. There was good adherence between the nail plate and the underlying nail bed. The nails have regrown and were corrected in a normal and flattened appearance. The width index and height index were improved. Conclusion: The autogenous dermofat graft seems to provide an effective treatment of the pincer nail with preservation of the nail matrix.

  • The discrepancy between centric relation and centric occlusion have a great role on the successful prosthodontic and occlusal treatment. This study was performed to investigate the effect of the discrepancy between centric relation and centric occlusion on condylar guidance inclination and Bennett shift (immediate and progressive side shift). Sixteen adults who have physiologically normal occlusion and are free of TMJ dysfunction were selected. The amount of the sagittal CR-CO discrepancy in lower anterior incisor was obtained by Saphon Visi-Trainer. The amount of the CR-CO discrepancy in condylar level was measured on the individualized corrected tomography. Pantronic survey was performed by using a arbitrary hinge axis according to manufacturer's direction. All subjects were divided into two groups, group I (small) and group II (large), according to the amount of CR-CO discrepancy. At first the amount of the CR-CO discrepancy in condylar level between two groups was compared and then the condylar guidance inclination and Bennett shift between two groups were compared and analyzed. The results were as follows; 1. The average CR-CO discrepancy in lower anterior incisors was 0.7mm superoinferiorly, 0.49mm anteroposteriorly, and 0.88 mm in total. The average CR-CO discrepancy in condylar level was 0.43mm. 2. The CR-CO discrepancy measured on teeth level and condylar level were highly correlated (p<0.01). 3. The correlation of the condylar position in the glenoid fossa between two groups was not statistically significant. 4. The large CR-CO discrepancy group showed greater amount of Bennett shift and condylar guidance inclination, but there is no statistical significancy. 5. It seems that the CR-CO discrepancy have greater effect on progressive side shift than other elements of mandibular movements.
