The computer-aided performance simulation can reduce periods for development of products and cut down on the cost comparing with former trial-and-error procedures. This study has developed a simulation program for a vehicle thermal management system integrating an engine cooling system and an air conditioning system considering interactions and arrangement of air side heat exchangers such as power steering oil cooler, air-cooled transmission oil cooler, condenser, and radiator. The program may be also used for the system performance analysis according to the configuration of the engine coolant side heat exchangers such as water-cooled transmission oil cooler, EGR cooler, and heater core. Experiments utilizing an environmental wind tunnel has been conducted to assess the performance of the system according to the arrangement of air side heat exchangers. Some modification of the coolant loop layout can enhance the heat core performance up to 7% according to the results of the simulations.
The bending strength characteristics and local deformation behaviors of honeycomb sandwich composites were investigated using three-point bending experiment and finite element simulation with a real model of honeycomb core. Two kinds of cell sizes of honeycomb core, two kinds of skin layer thicknesses, perfect bonding specimen as well as initial delamination specimen were used for analysis of stress and deformation behaviors of honeycomb sandwich beams. Various failure modes such as skin layer yielding, interfacial delamination, core shear deformation and local buckling were considered. Its simulation results were very comparable to the experimental ones. Consequently, cell size of honeycomb core and skin layer thickness had dominant effects on the bending strength and deformation behaviors of honeycomb sandwich composites. Specimens of large core cell size and thin skin layer showed that bending strength decreased by $30\~68\%$.

In the unlikely of nuclear reactor meltdown, the leaked core melt or corium must be contained in a device called core-catcher so that the corium can be cooled and stabilized. The ex-vessel behavior of corium involves complex physical and chemical mechanisms of flow propagation, heat transfer, and reactions with sacrificial substrates. In this study, the detailed characteristics of corium flow and heat transfer were investigated by using a commercial CFD code for VULCANO VE-U7 test reported in the literature. The volume-of-fluid (VOF) model was used to predict the interfacial surface formation of corium and the surrounding air, and the discrete ordinate model was adopted to calculate radiation between corium and the surroundings. It was found that cooling via radiation through the top surface of corium had a dominant effect on the temperature and viscosity profiles at the front of the corium flow.

In this paper, we applied a group scheduling algorithm to core nodes in an optical burst switching (OBS) network and measured its performance by simulation. For the case of core nodes with multi-channel input/output ports, performance of the group scheduling has been compared to that of the immediate scheduling. Since the group scheduling has a characteristic of scheduling a group of bursts simultaneously in a time window using information collected from corresponding burst header packets arrived earlier to a core node, simulation results show that the group scheduling outperforms the immediate scheduling in terms of both burst loss probability and channel utilization and the difference gets larger as the load increases. Another node configuration in which wavelength converters are equipped at the output ports has also been considered. In this case, even though both performance metrics of the group scheduling are almost the same as those of the immediate scheduling in the offered load range between 0.1 and 0.9, the group scheduling has lower wavelength conversion rate than the immediate scheduling by at least a factor of seven. This fact leads us to the conclusion that the group scheduling makes it possible to implement more economical OBS core nodes.

To study the thermophysical and neutronic properties of thorium-plutonium fuel, a conceptual design of a hybrid facility consisting of a subcritical Th-Pu reactor core and a source of additional D-D neutrons that places on the axis of the core is proposed. The source of such neutrons is a column of high-temperature plasma held in a long magnetic trap for D-D fusionreactions. This article presents computer simulation results of generation of thermonuclear neutrons in the plasma, facility neutronic properties and the evolution of a fuel nuclide composition in the reactor core. Simulations were performed for an axis-symmetric radially profiled reactor core consisting of zones with various nuclear fuel composition. Such reactor core containing a continuously operating stationary D-D neutron source with a yield intensity of Y = 2 × 1016 neutrons per second can operate as a nuclear hybrid system at its effective coefficient of neutron multiplication 0.95-0.99. Options are proposed for optimizing plasma parameters to increase the neutron yield in order to compensate the effective multiplication factor decreasing and plant power in a long operating cycle (3000-day duration). The obtained simulation results demonstrate the possibility of organizing the stable operation of the proposed hybrid 'fusion-fission' facility.

For the pressurized water reactor two-step calculation, the traditional assembly homogenization and two-group neutron diffusion calculation have been widely used. When it comes to the core pin-by-pin simulation, many models and techniques are different and unsettled. In this paper, the homogenization methods based on the pin discontinuity factors and super homogenization factors are used to get the pin-cell homogenized parameters. The heterogeneous leakage model is applied to modify the infinite flux spectrum of the single assembly with reflective boundary condition and to determine the diffusion coefficients for the SP3 solver which is used in the core simulation. To reduce the environment effect of the single-assembly reflective boundary condition, the online method for the SPH factors updating is applied in this paper, and the functionalization of SPH factors based on the least-squares method will be pre-made alone with the table of the group constants. The fitting function will be used to update the thermal-group SPH factors with a whole-core pin-by-pin homogeneous solution online. The three-dimensional Watts Bar Nuclear Unit 1 (WBN1) problem was utilized to test the performance of pin-by-pin calculation. And numerical results have demonstrated that PWR pin-by-pin core calculation has more accurate results compared with the traditional assembly-homogenization scheme.
The purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of digital simulation by which pre-service teachers (PSTs) can approximate the core teaching practice of eliciting student thinking. This study examined PSTs' questions to elicit student thinking, their use of "pause" session and peer feedback, and their reflections on doing a digital simulation. We analyzed a two-hour digital simulation session with 13 PSTs who enrolled in the elementary mathematics methods course. The results showed that PSTs shifted their general questions to more content-specific questions throughout the simulation and made a quick transition to comparing students' strategies. The number of lead PST-initiated "pause" ranged one to four times for various reasons. Their peer-coaches did not voluntarily "pause" the simulation session but actively shared what they noticed from the student work samples and suggested the next teaching moves. Without utilizing the pause session, the dramatic improvement of questioning was not observed. Even though the PSTs felt overwhelmed with interacting with the student-avatars in real-time, they highlighted the benefits of simulations, appreciated the opportunity to learn the core teaching practice, and viewed this digital simulation as "real" and "authentic" experience. The findings of this study provide implications for re-designing a practice-based teacher education program.

Systems Engineering Approach was applied to the development of operator-support core management system based on the on-site operation experience and document of core management procedures, which is for enhancing operability and safety in PHWR (Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor) operation. The dissertation and definition of the system were given on th basis of investigating and analyzing the core management procedures. Fuel management, detector calibration, safety management, core power distribution monitoring, and integrated data management were defined as main user's requirements. From the requirements, 11 upper functional requirements were extracted by considering the on-site operation experience and investigating documents of core management procedures. Detailed requirements of the system which were produced by analyzing the upper functional requirements were identified by interviewing members who have responsibility of the core management procedures, which were written in SRS (Software Requirement Specification) document by using IEEE 830 template. The system was designed on the basis of the SRS and analysis in terms of nuclear engineering, and then tested by simulation using on-site data as a example. A model of core power monitoring related to the core management was suggested and a standard process for the core management was also suggested. And extraction, analysis, and documentation of the requirements were suggested as a case in terms of systems engineering.

We have simulated the process induced warpage for panel level package using finite element method. Silicon chips of $5{\times}5mm^2$ were redistributed on $122.4{\times}93.6mm^2$ size panel and the total number of redistributed chips was 221. The warpage at each process step, for example, (1) EMC molding, (2) attachment of detach core, (3) heating, (4) removal of a carrier, and (5) cooling was simulated using ANSYS and the effects of detach core and carrier materials on the warpage were investigated. The warpage behaved complexly depending on the materials for the detach core and carrier. However, glass carrier showed the lower warpage than FR4 carrier regardless of detach core material, and the minimum warpage was observed when the glass was used for the detach core and carrier at the same time.
In this paper, free vibration of a sandwich curved beam with a functionally graded (FG) core was investigated. Closed-form formulations of two-dimensional (2D) refined higher order beam theory (RHOBT) without neglecting the amount of z/R was derived and used. The present RHOBT analysis incorporated a trapezoidal shape factor that arose due to the fact that stresses through the beam thickness were integrated over a curved surface. The solutions presented herein were compared with the available numerical and analytical solutions in the related literature and excellent agreement was obtained. Effects of some dimensionless parameters on the structural response were investigated to show their effects on fundamental natural frequency of the curved beam. In all the cases, variations of the material constant number were calculated and presented. Effect of changing ratio of core to beam thickness on the fundamental natural frequency depended on the amount of the material constant number.
