  • The optimal load distribution for two cooperating robots is studied in this paper, and a new solution approach utilizing force ellipsoid is proposed. The load distribution problem is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem with a quadratic cost function. The limit on instantaneous power is considered in the problem formulation as the joint torque constraints. The optimal solution minimizing energy consumption is obtained using the concept of force ellipsoid and the nonlinear optimization theory. The force ellipsoid provides a useful geometrical insight into the load distribution problem. Despite the presence of the joint torque constraints, the optimal solution is obtained almost as a closed form, in which the joint torques are given in terms of a single scalar parameter that can be obtained numerically by solving a scalar equation.

  • In this study, pre-service science teachers' difficulties in teaching practice were investigated from the perspectives of pre-service teachers and cooperating teachers. Nine pre-service teachers who were attending a department of chemistry education at a college of education in Seoul and participated in teaching practice, and two of their cooperating teachers participated in the study. Teaching practice were observed, documentary data were collected, and interviews were conducted. The collected data were analyzed using analysis method of grounded theory. As results of the analysis, the pre-service teachers had difficulties in preparing and executing lessons which include experiments, because education related to experiments in middle and high schools was insufficient at the college of education and environments of cooperating school were unfamiliar to them. They had difficulties in encountering various responses from students in student-centered activities and tried to control students. Cooperating teachers did not provide specific assistance to ensure the autonomy of pre-service teachers, so that pre-service teachers suffered. Guiding science club activities was a meaningful experience to pre-service teachers, but it was a burden on both pre-service teachers and cooperating teachers. Educational implications of these findings were discussed.

  • A modeling of the dynamics of two cooperating robot manipulators doing assembly job such as peg-in-hole while coordinating the payload along the desired path is proposed. The system is uncertain due to the unknown mass and moment of inertia of the manipulators and the payload. To control the system, a robust control algorithm is proposed. The control algorithm includes fuzzylogic. By the fuzzy logic, the magnitude of the input torque of the manipulators is controlled not to go over the hardware saturation with keeping path tracking errors bounded.

  • In this paper, we analyze the tradeoff performance of a consensus algorithm when it is applied to the CSMA/CA-based distributed wireless network. The consensus algorithm has a faster convergence speed as the number of cooperating neighbors increases, but the transmission delay on the wireless network increases due to access collisions as the number of cooperating neighbors increases. Therefore, there exists a tradeoff relationship between these two performances and so there exists an optimal number of cooperating neighbors that minimizes the consensus time. The result for the optimal number of neighbors according to the number of nodes that participate in the consensus shows that it is optimal for all nodes to cooperate together in the small-scale network but it is optimal to limit the number of neighbors to a fixed value in the large-scale network with nodes greater than a certain value.

  • In this paper a mathematical framework for deriving acceleration bounds from given joint torque limits of multiple cooperating robots are described. Especially when the different frictional contacts for every contact are assumed and the torque limits are given in 2-norm sense, we show that the resultant geometrical configuration for the acceleration is composed of corresponding parts of ellipsoids. Since the frictional forces at the contacts are proportional to the normal squeezing forces, the key points of the work includes how to determine internal forces exerted by each robot in order not to cause slip at the contacts while the object is carried by external forces. A set of examples composed of two robot systems are shown with point-contact-with-friction model and insufficient or proper degree of freedom robots.

  • This paper discusses a force distribution scheme which minimizes the weighted norm of the forces/torques applied on weak points of cooperating multiple robot arms. The scheme is proposed to avoid the damage or unwanted motion of any weak point of robots or object stemming from excessive forces/torques. Since the proposed scheme can be used for either the joint torque minimization or the exerted force minimization on the object, it can be regarded as a unified force minimization method for multiple robot arms. The computational complexity in this scheme is analyzed using the properties of Jarcobian. Simulation of two identical PUMA robots held an object is carried out to illustrate the proposed scheme. By the proper choice of the weighting matrix in the performance index, we show that force minimization for a weak point can be achieved, and that the exerted force minimization on the object can be changed to the joint torque minimization.

  • In this paper, dynamical model and control architecture are developed for the closed chain motion of two N-joint manipulators holding a rigid object. Controller consist of forward controller which is reduced order model and compensator that compensates for modeling error. Control laws are determined so as to decouple the force and position controlled degree of freedom(DOF) during motion of the system.

  • Multi-agent robot system is the system which executes by cooperating with each robots and controlling several robots. Capability and function of each robot must be considered for cooperation behavior. Furthermore, it is necessary to analyze the given environment and to replace complex task with some simple tasks. Analysis of the given environment and role assignment for the given tasks are composed of discret event. In this paper, the hierarchical controller for multi-agent robot system using the petri-net state diagram is proposed. The proposed modeling method is implemented for soccer robot system. The effectiveness of proposed modeling method is shown through experiment.

  • Though fuzzy control is very popular at present, the application field of fuzzy system will be wider if we design it as a man-machine system. We suggest, in this paper, a man-machine cooperating system which makes easy the manual control of a triple inverted pendulum by simple fuzzy controller, and verify its effectiveness by experiments.

  • For free motions, vibration suppression of single flexible manipulators has been one of the hottest research topics. However, for cooperative motions of multiple flexible manipulators, a little effort has been devoted for the vibration suppression control. So, the aim of this paper is to develop a hybrid force/position control and vibration suppression control scheme for multiple cooperation flexible manipulators handling a rigid object. In order to clarify the discussion, the motions of dual-arm experimental flexible manipulator are considered. Using the developed model, we control a robotic system with hybrid position/force control scheme. Finally, Experiments are performed, and a comparison of experimental results is given to clarify the validity of our control scheme.
