  • As the delay of the Kyungbu High Speed Railroad, HST should use conventional line through Daegoo to Pusan until the new railroad build. High speed railroad noise is one of the main causes of environmental impact. Whenever HST on conventional railroad line is planned or a housing project near an existing railroad is proposed, an estimate of the relevant noise levels is usually required. For this, it is necessary to quantify those parameters that affect the railroad noise. This paper deals with an estimation of high speed railroad noise on conventional line.

  • This study is a kind of preliminary research in order to propose and suggest the plan of performance improvement for the speed-up through the examination of operational condition on the field for signal system facility on the conventional railway, in order to obtain the elemental technology from the technical development for utilization of high speed train which will be run on the Korea Conventional Line and, finally, in order to propose the specification of signal system using for high speed and the scheme of establishment for the optimal signal system.

  • The KTX is now operating to the commercial purpose at Gyeong-Bu high speed railroad and Ho-Nam conventional railroad to be started on April, 2004. The trains were not found any problems at high speed railroad, but at Ho-Nam line were known to be have the few problems due to operating no planed. In this report should be studied for the effects of the lateral forces and wheel bases, brake distances etc., that high speed trains should be considered on curve running at the conventional railroad. The studied contents for operating at the conventional railroad shall be checked for the technical requirements from design stage, and the trains should be supplied and manufactured to car system to have the good running performances.

  • This paper suggested that the technical specification of tilting train EMU for speed up on existing lines. High speed strategy of existing lines are the modification of railway system which are made on cant, lengths of transition curves, the catenary system and train system. Tilting technology is more useful a strategy for speed increases on existing lines with low investment needed. We performed a feasibility study which is considered out real track conditions and designed propulsion and braking system of tilting EMU system.

  • This paper presents a Train Communication Network simulator (TCNS) that can be used to evaluate the performance of TCN. TCN was accepted as the standard of the protocol for the communication network in trains. We carry out some simulation tests using the TCNS to show practical uses of the simulator.   • High speed railroad project management has been almost completed by starting operation of Seoul-Busan high speed railroad with the exception of a few constructing blocks currently in April, 2004. After Korea Rail Network Authority was established in 2004, it needs to develop new project management system for both conventional railroad construction and high speed railroad construction for domestic railroad projects, while it plans to invest in overseas railroad project for logistics innovation and improvement in passenger transport services on a large scale. Therefore this paper provides the method that we can adapt the project management system for high speed railroad containing experiences and know-how from construction of high speed railroad for both conventional railroad construction and high speed railroad construction or improve project management system for high speed railroad to use it as project management system for overseas railroad projects.

  • The design standard for the thickness of reinforced roadbed is divided into high-speed and conventional railroad because dynamic characteristics of train loadings differ depending on the train speed. Due to the national plan for increasing the train speed for both conventional and new railroad lines, it is necessary to examine the applicability of concrete tracks and feasibility of the train speed increase on the conventional lines with the current thickness of the reinforced roadbed. In this study, a real-scale test was performed to monitor the dynamic characteristics of the reinforced roadbed with a thickness of 20cm and the train speed of 200km/h, 300km/h, and 400km/h. The test results were then compared with the design code to investigate the applicability of the conventional reinforced roadbed when the trains operate with higher speed.

  • The railroad noise has been considered as one of environment pollution and complaints about it have been increasing every year. Therefore, the establishment of railroad noise monitoring network is necessary. It will be designed for monitoring railroad noise, storing data of railroad noise continuously and providing the fundamental knowledge for the measures of railroad noise. For this, we investigated the actual condition and status of railroad noise according to distance around Daejeon, Daegu, Gwangju, and Busan. This paper shows the basic data that will be used for predicting the noise level near railroad in the environmental impact assessment.
