  • Resistance trimming and cutting processes of printed circuit board by making use of high power UV laser with nano-second pulse width have been proposed and investigated experimentally. Also laser-based application system with high flexibility and complex has been designed and adopted power controller, auto beam size control, auto-focusing and control program developed for ourselves. The function of each module shows that they can be reliable for industrial equipments. Resistance trimming method used a plunge and double cut process with $20{\mu}m$ spot size beam. Results show that double cut process is more effective to control resistance trimming in precision than plunge cut process.

The Implement of 2-Step Motion Control Loop and Look Ahead Algorithm for a High Speed Machining (고속가공을 위한 2단계 모션 제어 루프와 선독 알고리즘의 구현)

  • This paper describers a look ahead algorithm of PC-NC(personal computer numerical control). The algorithm is based on acceleration/deceleration before interpolation which doesn\`t include a command error and determines a feedrate value at the end point of each block(or start point of each block). The algorithm is represented as following; 1) calculating two maximum arrival feedrates(F$_1$,F$_2$) by an acceleration value, a command feedrate, and the distance of a NC block, 2) getting a tangent feedrate (F$_3$) of the adjacent blocks, 3) choosing a minimum value among these three feedrates, and 4) setting the value to a feedrate of a start point of the next block(or a end point of the previous block). The proposed look ahead algorithm was implemented and tested by using a commercial TROS(real time operation system) on the MS-Windows NT 4.0 in a PC platform. For interfacing to a machine, a counter board, a DAC board and a DIO board were used. The result of the algorithm increased a machining precision and a machining speed in many short blocks.

  • In this paper, the new efficient drive control technology based on the conventional full-color electric display board image processing method is proposed. This technology can be applied to high-fidelity large size panel TV and LCD Display, and makes high-fidelity-display-drive control possible in those. The proposed drive control technology can strengthen the image processing function of the conventional technology. Also, the automatic or manual adjustment of contrast, bright, tint, color, gamma revision, etc. can help to achieve high-fidelity vision. This technology can be adopted with lower price.

Development of Low Loss Magnetic Levitation System (저손실 자기부상 시스템 개발)

  • In this paper, a low loss magnetic levitation(Maglev) system is suggested and tested. The suggested Maglev system includes four hybrid magnets which consist of permanent magnet and coil. In the steady state, the levitated module system can be supported by attraction force generated by permanent magnet. The coil current controls only dynamic loads due to external disturbances. The module systems are designed by using finite element method(FEM) software tools such as MAXWELL and ANSYS. Also, digital control systems are designed to keep the magnet airgap at a constant value. The control systems include a VME(versa module europa)-based CPU(central processing unit) board, AD(analog to digital) board, PWM(pulse width modulation) board, 4-quadrant chopper, and sensors. In order to estimate the vertical velocity of the magnet, we use second order state observer with acceleration and gap signals as input and output signals, respectively. The characteristics of the suggested low loss Maglev system are demonstrated by experimental results showing coil current of 0A in the steady state of 3m airgap and performance specifications are satisfied for reference gap and force disturbance.

Antimycotic Activity of Allium Sativum Against Beauveria Bassiana, Pathogenic Fungus of White Muscardine Disease in Silkworm, Bombyx mori L. (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae)

  • White Muscardine is the most common fungal disease of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. caused by the pathogenic fungus, Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin. In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to screen locally available medicinal/ weed plants against Beauveria bassiana. Among the plant extracts (PE) tested, 5% aqueous crude extract of the bulb of Allium sativum (Garlic) has been found to be most effective against Beauveria bassiana. The radial growth of Beauveria bassiana in vitro was inhibited to the tune of 54.9% in aqueous extract and 54.4% in ethanolic extract of Allium sativum and correspondingly mycelial dry weight gave rise to 110.7 mg and 108.7 mg against 201.7 mg in control 15 days post treatment. Similarly, silkworm larvae topically inoculated with the Beauveria bassiana conidia ($1.8{\times}10^6/ml$) registered survival up to 53.0% against 0.0% in control after treatment with aqueous extract of Allium sativum. Simultaneously, as a preventive measure, silkworm larvae were put to rear in conidia contaminated seat paper instantly treated with aqueous extract of Allium sativum that also increased survival up to 61.0% against 4.6% in control. It is also observed that the plant extract is absolutely innocuous to silkworm.

CEO Compensation and Concurrent Executive Employment of Outside Directors: A Panel Data Analysis of S&P 1500 firms

  • In many advanced countries, most outside directors are executives, active or retired, at other firms; in other words, executives from other companies make executive compensation decisions. This situation may hinder the board of directors (BOD) in their efforts to optimize executive compensation levels objectively. Using a panel data analysis of the S&P 1500 companies, we provide supplemental evidence of whether, and to what extent, the concurrent executive employment of outside directors distorts the executive pay decisions at a given company. An unbiased fixed-effect estimation confirms that a $1.00 increase in CEO pay at outside directors' primary companies results in an approximate increase of $0.22 in CEO pay at the given company. From a policy perspective, this added agency problem - caused by the BOD and not by management - is noted as difficult to control; although a firm may establish board independence, the inherent concurrent employment of directors on a board continues to exist.

  • This paper proposes an expert system to generate automatically the test table of test system which can highly enhance the quality and productivity of product by inspecting quickly and accurately the defect device on the electronic circuit board tested. The expert system identifies accurately the tested components and the circuit patterns by tracing automatically the connectivity of circuit from electronic circuit database. And it generates automatically the test table to detect accurately the missing components, the misplaced components, and the wrong components for analog components such as resistance, coil, condenser, diode, and transistor, based on the experience knowledge of veteran expert. It is implemented in C computer language for the purpose of the implementation of the inference engine using the dynamic memory allocation technique, the interface with the electronic circuit database and the hardware direct control. And, the validity of the builded expert system is proved by simulating for a typical electronic board model.

A Controller Design for a Stability Improvement of an On-Board Battery Charger

  • This paper proposes the controller design for a stability improvement of an on-board battery charger. The system is comprised of a power factor correction (PFC) circuit and phase shift full-bridge DC-DC converter. The PFC circuit performs the control of the DC-link voltage and the input power factor. The DC-DC converter regulates the voltage and the current in the battery using the DC-link voltage. This paper proposes the design method of PI controller for the PFC circuit using a small signal model. The analysis and design of a type-three controller for the DC-DC converter is also presented. A simulation and experiment has been performed on the on-board battery charger and their results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed system.

  • The VAL 208 in Uijeongbu Light Rail system is a light railway vehicle which could be operated in driverless supported by Siemens. It is a Rubber Wheel Type AGT (Automatic Guideway Transit). It will be operated in two car train about 11km of Uijeongbu line. In this paper, the technical overview of the ATC system and the interface between the system and the way side control equipments are presented. It includes the main functions of OBCU(On Board control Unit) and its information sharing method with WCU(Way side control Unit). The testing procedure of OBCU is also discussed.

  • Recently, great improvements have been made in developing autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) using stateof- the-art technologies for various kinds of sophisticated underwater missions. To meet increasing demands posed on AUVs, a powerful on-board computer system and an accurate sensor system with an well-organized control system architecture are needed. In this paper, a new control system architecture is proposed for AUV, ORCA (Oceanic Reinforced Cruising Agent) which is being currently developed by Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO). The proposed architecture uses a hybrid architecture that combines a hierarchical architecture and a behavior based control architecture with an evaluator for coordinating between the architectures. This paper also proposed a sensor fusion structure based on the definition of 4 categories of sensors called grouping and 5-step data processing procedure. The development of the AUV, ORCA involving the system architecture, vehicle layout, and hardware configuration of on-board system are described.
