The purpose of the study is to investigate the development of institutional repositories in university libraries in Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design. Online questionnaire, IRs investigation, and interview methods were used to collect data from the 21 university libraries that have developed IRs in Nigeria. The study revealed that only few universities have successfully developed open access IRs to preserve and manage their intellectual outputs emanating from their universities. Contents such as journal articles, theses/dissertations, and conference / workshop papers were found to be the most popular contents that are hosted in the IRs. The interview revealed that although few respondents mentioned having IR policy statements in areas such as access policy, submission policy, preservation policy, content policy and copyright policy, the majority mentioned not having any defined policy in their IR. Also in the interview, inadequate fund, challenge of collecting contents for the IR, shortage of skilled ICT personnel, and inadequate facilities were the most mentioned challenges encountered in the development of IRs in Nigeria. Findings from this study will inform University Librarians, university management and policy makers on the need to provide the necessary infrastructure and formulate policies for smooth development of institutional repositories to make research visible globally. The results will therefore provide important data and insight into the development of institutional repositories in university libraries in the context of developing countries.

The purpose of this study is to experiment online public access catalog enhancements to improve its subject access capability. Three catalog databases, enhanced with title keywords, controlled vocabulary, and content words with controlled vocabulary respectively, were implemented. 18 searchers performed 2 subject searshes against 3 different catalog databases. And the transaction logs are analyzed. The results of the study can be summarized as follows : Controlled vocabulary catalog database achieved 41.8% recall ratio in average ; the addition of table of contents words to the controlled vocabulary is an effective technique with increasing recall ration upto 55% without decreasing precision ; and the database enhanced with title keywords shows 31.7% recall ratio in average. Of the three kinds of catalog databases, only the catalog with contents words produced 2 unique relevant documents. The results indicate that both user training and system development is required to have better search performance in online public access catalog.

This study analyzes the availability of access features in children's non-fiction as compared to their prevalence in adult non-fiction because such features are an important part of the research process increasingly demanded of younger and younger students in schools. Access features studied include: table of contents, index, bibliography, endnotes/footnotes, glossary, and suggestions for further reading list. This study found that children's non-fiction books were less likely to include bibliographies or endnotes, but more likely to include glossaries or suggested reading lists. Tables of contents and indexes were the two most popular access features in each section. Results are divided by Dewey Decimal Classification classes.

본 연구는 초등학교 이용자에 적합한 실감 콘텐츠 개발 접근지표에 관한 연구이다. 다양한 센서기술을 연동한 스포츠, 체육, 융합학습 실감 콘텐츠 기준으로 이용자에게 교육 및 신체 운동의 효과성 있는 콘텐츠 체험이 되도록 하며 가상현실 스포츠실 콘텐츠 제작 참여기업의 올바른 개발 가이드로서 활용될 수 있다. 연구방법은 지원기관의 표준화 가이드를 기준으로 개발된 콘텐츠를 선정하여 전문가 자문 및 체육담당자 인터뷰, 콘텐츠 체험 설문을 통한 연구를 통해서 가상현실 스포츠실의 콘텐츠 접근 기준지표를 도출하였으며 제작 기준지표를 적용한 콘텐츠 고도화 개발을 통해서 확인해 보았다.

Multimedia contents have been increasingly available over the Internet as wireless networks systems are continuously growing popular. Unlimited access from various users has led to unauthorized access of third parties or adversaries. This paper deals with the implementation of elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) based user authentication for securing multimedia contents over the Internet. The ECC technique has been incorporated with the advanced encryption standard (AES) algorithm to ensure the complexity of the proposed authentication scheme and to guarantee authenticity of multimedia services.

In digital contents distribution environments, a user authentication is an important security primitive to allow only authenticated user to use right services by checking the validity of membership. For example, in Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) environments, it is required to provide an access control according to the policy of content provider. Remote user authentication and key agreement scheme is used to validate the contents accessibility of a user. We propose a novel user authentication scheme using smart cards providing a secure access to multimedia contents service. Each user is authenticated using a subset of attributes which are issued in the registration phase without revealing individual's identity. Our scheme provides the anonymous authentication and the various permissions according to the combination of attributes which are assigned to each user. In spite of more functionality, the result of performance analysis shows that the computation and communication cost is very low. Using this scheme, the security of contents distribution environments in the client-server model can be significantly improved.

본 논문에서는 셰퍼드와 세션 초기 프로토콜 환경에서 실행되는 컴퓨터 기반의 멀티미디어 통합을 위한 접근 제어에 대해서 제안하였다. 기존의 멀티미디어 프레임워크는 접근제어에 대한 기능은 있지만, 컴퓨터 기반의 멀티미디어 통합을 위한 세션 초기 프로토콜 환경에서 거의 없는 실정이다. 세션 관리에는 세션의 생성, 종료 및 지각자처리, 접근제어 등의 기능이 있다. 본 논문에서는 세션을 잘 유지할 수 있게 하기 위하여 셰퍼드와 세션 초기 프로토콜 환경에서 실행되는 컴퓨터 기반의 멀티미디어 통합을 위한 접근제어를 기술하였다.

본 연구는 시청자참여프로그램의 내용분석을 바탕으로 시청자, 방송사, 정책당국 간의 접점을 찾고 이를 통해 시청자참여프로그램 활성화를 위한 개선방안을 알아보았다. 시청자참여프로그램의 내용을 구체적으로 분석하기 위해서 2009년 8월 31일 현재 시청자참여프로그램 홈페이지가 개설되어 있는 16개 방송사를 대상으로 2009년 4월 한 달 방송된 129개 프로그램과 8월 한 달 방송된 137개 프로그램을 합해서 총 266개 프로그램을 분석하였다. 연구결과 시청자참여프로그램은 방송의 다양성 구현, 지역성 확보 및 소수자 대변이라는 방송통신위원회의 가이드라인에 부합되는 내용들로 구성되어 있었다. 개선방안으로 제작주체가 좀더 다원화되어야 하고, 지역케이블SO가 더욱 다양한 계층과 소재를 편성할 필요가 있고, 이를 위해 방송사와 정책당국인 방송통신위원회도 저변확대를 위한 더욱 적극적인 홍보와 지원이 필요함을 제언하였다.

본 논문에서는 통신 방송 융합 환경하에서 다양한 이동 통신 단말을 가지고 있는 최종 소비자에게 멀티미디어 콘텐츠를 서비스 ( 간단히, UCA(Ubiquitous Contents Access) 라고 함) 해 주는 기술들을 소개하고 이 기술들이 적용된 서비스 모텔을 제안한다. 또한 제안된 서비스 기술에 대해 소비자 측면에서 보이는 서비스 기술의 상대적 우위성과 유희성을 분석하였다. 이와 같이 소비자 관점에서 바라본 통방 융합 서비스 기술에 대해 소비자 관점의 상대적 우위성 및 유희성을 분석함으로써 제안된 통신 방송 융합 서비스 모델이 소비자가 선호할 수 있는 가치 있는 서비스임을 알 수 있다.

시각장애인은 웹 접근성이 매우 취약하기 때문에 지식정보화 사회에서는 소외계층일 수밖에 없다. 소외 계층인 시각장애인들에게도 지식과 정보를 쉽게 얻을 수 있도록 시각장애인의 웹 접근성을 고려한 콘텐츠가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 시각장애인의 웹 접근성 향상을 위한 콘텐츠를 개발하였다. 특히 시각장애인의 웹 접근성을 향상시키기 위하여 기존의 시각장애인을 위한 웹 사이트들을 분석하여, 간결한 설계, 계층적 구조 등을 고려하여 설계하였으며, 포커스, 단축키, 대체텍스트 등 시각장애인들에게 반드시 필요한 기능들을 PHP, CSS, 자바스크립트 등을 사용하여 구현하였다. 또한, 본 콘텐츠를 시각장애인에게 적용하여 본 논문에서 제안한 콘텐츠가 효율적임을 보였다.
