The Study on Yaw Motion of Crane Driving Mechanism (크레인 구동부의 Yaw Motion에 관한 연구)

  • This paper studied on the yaw motion of the gantry crane which is used for the automated container terminal. Though several problems are occurred in driving of gantry crane, they are solved by the motion by the operator. But if the gantry crane is unmanned, it is automatically controlled without any human operation. There are two types, cone and flat typo in driving wheel shape. In cone type, lateral vibration and yaw motion of crane are issued. To bring a solution to these problems, the dynamic equation of the gantry crane driving mechanism is derived and it used PD(Proportional-Derivative) controller to control the lateral vibration. The simulation result of the driving mechanism using the Runge-Kutta method is presented in this paper.

  • This paper studied on the lateral motion and yaw motion of the gantry crane that is used for the automated container terminal. Though several problems are occurred in driving of the gantry crane, they are solved by the motion by the operators. But, if the gantry crane is unmanned, it is automatically controlled without any operator. There are two types, cone and flat type in driving wheel shape. In cone type, the lateral vibration and yaw motion of crane are issued. In flat type, the collision between wheel-flange and rail or the fitting between wheel-flanges and rail is issued. Especially, the collision between wheel-flange and rail is a very critical problem in driving of unmanned gantry crane. To bring a solution to the problems, the lateral and yaw dynamic equations of the driving mechanism of two driving wheels are derived. Then, we investigate the driving characteristics of gantry crane. In this study, the proposed controller, based on Model Based Controller, is used to control the lateral displacement and yaw angle of the gantry crane. And the availability of the proposed controller is showed through the comparison with the result of the proposed controller and PD controller. The simulation results of the driving mechanism, using the Runge-Kutta Method that is one of the numerical analysis methods, are presented in this paper.

  • Since Emma Maersk, which is a container vessel capable of holding a freight capacity of 11,000 TEU, was launched early last year, the appearance of the ULCS (Ultra Large Container Ship) will be expected in 5 years. That requires the high productivity, the high technology, the automation, and the high efficiency in port operations. GTO (Global Terminal Operator) and port equipment companies are striving for the prior occupation of the port market and the development of the port technology. Within the country, however, there has been few systematic, analytic, and detailed technology road map, and the effective execution of the development policy for the port technology and the activation of port industries has not been achieved. In this study, we deduces the development subject of the domestic port technology and analyzes the priority of them. In conclusion, we establishes the macro technology road map and the product-related road map for container ports in Korea.

Impact of Macroeconomic Factors on Terminal Operators' Profit: Focusing on Global Terminal Operators (거시경제지표가 터미널운영사 재무성과에 미치는 영향 분석: 글로벌터미널운영사 중심으로)

  • In the future, the global container handling market will be reorganized into larger ships and shipping alliances, and the bargaining power of shipping companies will be further strengthened. Therefore, the global terminal operator (GTO), which has a global network, vast experience, and operational know-how, is expected to strengthen its competitiveness. In Korea, the central government promoted the development of GTOs in the mid-2000s, but it failed, mainly due to disagreements between port stakeholders. In this study, the macroeconomic indicators that have the same effect in all regions were used to analyze GTO management performance. In the short term, it could be used to establish the business strategy of domestic terminal operators based on changes in macroeconomic indicators. In the long term, it would be used to establish a promotion strategy for GTOs in Korea. The results of analyzing the impact of macroeconomic indicators on the GTO's profit show that the GTO's profit is significantly affected by cargo handling capacity, the consumer price index of the United States, the Shanghai Composite Index, the Crude Oil Price, and the London Inter-bank Offered Rate (LIBOR). However, the scale of impact was not significantly different between public and private GTOs.

The Comparative Analysis of Port Tariff on the World Major Ports and the Empirical Analysis between Port Tariff and Macro Economic Indicators (세계 주요항만의 항만요율 비교분석 및 거시경제지표와의 실증분석)

  • Many studies on port tariff have been done over twenty years using publicly assessed data on tariff. Public data for tariff rates do not reflect, however, the port tariff in a real market, since the cargo handling charge, which is the important fraction of port tariff, is confidentially decided by the negotiations between a shipping company and a container terminal operator. In this paper, we collected the real price data of the port tariff on the world major sixteen container ports from a global shipping company and transformed it into the tariff per TEU(US$/TEU). The comparative analysis of port tariff was performed using the port tariff per TEU, and a panel regression analysis was done to identify the relations between the port tariff and demand variables: throughput, GDP and trade amount.
