  • Generally, space structures are subjected to severe situations, such as, sublimation, strong evaporation of lubricants, thermal stresses, high temperature gradients, irradiation, impacts by microscopic meteorites, and other factors. Recent]y, various kinds of coatings are applied to the parts under heavy contact stresses, in order to insure long wear-free lives and/or reduce friction coefficients. In space structures, molybdenum disulfide is using frequently. Moreover TiN, Al$_2$O$_3$, PTFE(Poly Tetra Fluor Ethylene) are introduced recently for space structure. In this part we are going to apply the partial model method, developed in reference[11] to analyze part with coated layer. In referencer[l1], we compute the reasonable size of partial model and aspect ratio. Using these data, we analyze the structures coated with TiN, Al$_2$O$_3$, PTFE under contact load, temperature and crack model . Beside, we consider the stress analysis under time dependent load and transient thermal effect.

Uptake of Wastewater Organic Matter to Activated Sludge

  • The influences of contact time and ratio of food to microorganism (F/M) on uptake of wastewater organic matter in a short contact process were investigated using three activated sludge batch reactors fed with synthetic wastewater, sewage and livestock wastewater. About 64% of influent soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD) in the synthetic wastewater and 61% of SCOD in the sewage and 43% of SCOD in the diluted livestock wastewater were adsorbed into the activated sludge within 30 min. The specific mass of organic matter uptaken in the synthetic wastewater was 55 mg SCOD/g mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS). In the same manner, 20 and 14 mg SCOD/g MLSS were calculated as the values in the sewage and livestock wastewater, respectively.

  • The TFTs have been fabricated with 3 different geometry SID electrodes which have the same channel W/L ratio (W/L = 5) due to constant channel resistance, The 3 samples have different channel widths (350, 150, and $25\;{\mu}m$) and channel lengths (70, 30, and $5\;{\mu}m$) by fixed channel W/L ratio simultaneously on one chip for reliable comparisons. Resultant on-current and field effect mobility are proportional to the channel width, while the subthreshold swing is inversely proportional to the channel width mainly due to the change of contact resistance. These results show that the contact resistance strongly affects the device performances and should be considered in the applications.

  • The superposing angle of the viewing zone forming optics and the display panel in the contact type 3 dimensional imaging systems for minimizing $moir{\acute{e}}s$ is found for a rectangular shape pixel with different aspect ratios. The angles are $26.2609^{\circ}$ for square shape pixels and $13.9858^{\circ}$ for the rectangular with aspect ratio 2. These angles result in the $moir{\acute{e}}s$ with the smallest period for the respective aspect ratio. The effectiveness of the angles is also experimentally demonstrated.

자동차 트랜스미션용 헬리컬 기어의 최적 설계 프로그램 개발 (Development of a Optimal Design Program for the Helical Gear on Vehicle Transmission)

  • Recently the gear design focuses on the optimal design to extract the design factors from the vehicle transmission that is required to equip the powerful, speedy and silent characteristics. In this study, we had determined modules($m_n$) and face widths (b) to sustain strengths of contact and bending. The pressure angle ($\alpha$) and the helix angle ($\beta$) also had been obtained from the constraint of a contact ratio ($\varepsilon) on helical gears. Through the optimal design algorithm suggested in this study, the design factors were calculated on vehicle transmission gears and those determined factors were able to firm a suitability of the design.

  • Rolling-sliding friction was investigated for three SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) specimens including silica-filled, HAF carbon black-filled, and SAF carbon black-filled SBR. When a rubber wheel was rolled against a glass disk, the coefficient of friction varied with the slip ratios. The coefficient of friction for the silica-tilled SBR showed the highest value of the rubber specimens examined under various slip ratios. The contact areas of silica-filled SBR were larger than those of the carbon black-filled SBRs, as indicated the modulus of the silica-filled SBR showing the lowest value. The contact area during rolling-sliding friction was always smaller than those during the static contact. The friction force at the unit contact area for the silica-filled SBR under braking and driving was higher than those of carbon black-filled SBRs.

  • In general, the contact pressure to the die cannot be easily determined by using upper bound solution. Recently, the authors have proposed the method determining the contact pressure with the upper bound solution for the forming with the plane stain plastic deformation. In this paper, the method is applied to an axisymmetric forward extrusion process. The contact pressure to the die of the axisymmetric extrusion has been determined with the upper bound solution and compared with the result of rigid plastic FEM. The optimal semi-angles of die have been obtained minimizing the relative contact pressure to die fur the extrusion ratio.

레일-휠의 접촉면 경사도에 따른 응력-변위량의 거동특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Contact Behavior of Stress-Displacement Characteristics for an Inclined Rail-Wheel Contact Mode)

  • Using the finite element method, rail-wheel contact model has been analyzed for mechanical loads due to passengers and payload of the train. This paper presents an investigation on how tapered wheel and inclined rail surfaces affect the contact stress and displacement of rail-wheel contacting surface under mechanical loads. For a numerical analysis, the tapered faces of the wheel are considered as 2.5% and 5.5%. And two models of the tilted rail are also considered as 40:1 and 20:1 at the bottom of the rail. The computed results based on the contact stress and displacement FE analysis indicate that the tilting ratio of the rail, 20:1 with a tapered face of the wheel, 2.5% may be more stable compared to that of 40:1 tilting model and 5.5% tapered wheel face.

  • The sealing performance of an elastomeric O-ring seal using bi-materials has been analyzed for the contact stress behaviors that develop between the O-ring seal and the surfaces with which it comes into contact. The leakage of an O-ring seal will occur when the pressure differential across the seal just exceeds the initial (or static) peak contact stress. The contact stress behaviors that develop in compressed O-rings, in common case of restrained geometry(grooved), are investigated using the finite element method. The analysis includes material hyperelasticity and axisymmetry. The computed FEM results show that the contact stress behaviors are related to a ratio of length between NBR and FFKM and temperature of vaccum chamber.
