  • General formulation to analyse the rectangular thin plate on a soil medium by energy method is developed. In the problem, Boussinesque's formular needs to be integrated after assuming the contact stress distribution. Two different functions, i.e., power series and Chebychev polynomials are used to approximate the contact stress distribution. It was found that Chebychev polynomials are better function to describe the contact stress than power series. Chebychev polynomials considering stress singularity around plate boundary is recommended as the desirable shape function for future research.

  • The metallization is the key to determining cell costs, call performance, and cell and system reliabiltiy. The Burled Contact Solar Cell (BCSC) was specifical1y desinged to be compatible tilth low cost, mass production techniques and avoid the conventional metallization problem. By using electroless plating trchniqeu, we performed this metallization inexpensively and reliabley, This paper presents the details of the optimization procedure of metallization schemes on laser grooved cell surface Commercially available Ni ,Cu, and Ag plating solutions were applied for the cell metallization. The application of those solutions on the buried contact front metalization has resulted in an cell efficiency of 18.5% The cell parameters are an open circuit voltage of 651 mV, short circuit current density of 38.6 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and fill factor of 73.5%.

  • This paper describes a Accelerated Life Test (ALT) with the electrical contact erosion suitable to the evaluations of high-reliability and durability devices such as magnetic contactor. Recently, an electrical devices company was interested in accelerated life test (ALT), the product liability (PL) and the short-term testing model of electrical life test (ELT). In order to estimate a model for testing fee and period, need to the statistical analysis method with the acceleration factor(AF). Usually customer/manufacturer regard their device failure to the over-current or heavy duty condition, while devices view shape of contact erosion owing to operational duty problem. In this paper, additional method of evaluation estimated the operated cycles by weight of contact erosion with a used of regression analysis by MINITAB.

  • Angular contact ball bearings are often adopted for a high-speed spindle owing to their durability against axial and radial loads. The dynamic characteristics of an angular contact ball bearing, however, are very complicated because they are dependent on the applied loads as well as on the system configuration. This study systematically analyzes the radial-load-dependent characteristics of spindles as well as angular contact ball bearings. Toward this end, a spindle dynamic model along with the bearing dynamics model is established. An iterative solution algorithm is implemented to resolve the statically indeterminate problem associated with spindle-bearing systems subjected to radial load. Two numerical examples are provided to investigate the spindle and bearing characteristics as a function of radial load with regard to the system configuration.

  • We propose a new contact detection algorithm for fine pitch wire bonding. Fast and stable contact detection of the z-axis in wire bonding is extremely important to maintain the quality of fine pitch gold wire bonding processes, which use a small pad less than $70{\mu}m$ in diameter. A small perturbation in the contact detection time causes a large difference in the size of the formed squashed ball. The new detection method is based on a statistical approach and designed for a discrete Kalman filter. It is faster and has smaller detection time variations than conventional detection methods. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed algorithm.

  • Contact fatigue damages on the rail surface, such as head checks and squats are a growing problem. The fatigue cracks forming on the contact surface grow according to load and lubricating conditions and may end up breaking the rail. Rail fracture can be avoided by preventing the cracks from reaching the critical length. Therefore, the crack growth rate needs to be estimated precisely according to the conditions of the track and load to develop a maintenance plan against rail damages. Therefore, it is important to understand the mechanism of cracks initiation and growth on a rail due to repetitive rolling contact. In this study, we have investigated the crack growth behavior on the rail surface by using the twin-disc tests and the finite element analysis.

  • This paper introduces a method to estimate the contact-force of the leg of a walking robot and proposes a solution to a shortcoming of the previous study. This shortcoming was the deteriorating performance when estimating the contact-force whenever the rotation of each joint was reversed. It occurred because the friction-torque of each joint was not considered. In order to solve this problem, a friction-torque model for a robot leg was developed based on repetitive experimentation and used to improve the contact-force estimation performance. We verified the performance of the proposed method experimentally.

  • In the charge system, a contact type-convenient-charging method is insufficient because of the contact failure around moist environment and troublesome question to put in and pull out. For the solution of this problem, an electromagnetically coupled non-contact charger for the rechargeable cell is proposed using ZVS multi-resonant forward converter with synchronous rectifier. In this paper coupling coefficient(k), leaking inductance, coupling inductance and resonant frequency are observed for the air gap. By using the observed value, this circuit is designed and implemented. This proposed circuit is simulated by the PSPICE and experimented. The stress of a main switch and the output power are measured.

  • The conventional analysis for the numerical computation of fluid film thickness with elastic deformation of contact region. is performed by Newton-Rephson method for its 18st convergence characteristics. However, both high load and relatively low sliding velocity frequently make it impossible for Newton-Rahpson method to get both converged and stable solutions. In particular, this method cannot provide converged Solution under the condition of high load above 1.0 GPa which frequently occurs in line contact of EHL problem. Multigird multi-level method for the solver of non-linear partial differential equation including solid deformation is preferred to Newton-Rshpson method for better convergence and stability and is applied to line contact EHL behavior in this study.

  • The Z-map model which is quite similar to the non-parametric patch is widely used to describe the shape of a surface because of its simplicity. Despite the inherent advantage of z-map model. it has drawbacks that there exists difficulty in expressing the vertical walls and its related contact treatment method. In the region of vertical walls, there is a convergence problem in searching the contact point. In this study a contact point finding scheme is presented, based on the z value of the z-map model on the sheet normal direction. To show the utility of this scheme a compared with the experimental results. The effects of the Z-map grid distances and the interpolations of the inside Z-map value are also discussed.
