  • This study examined the expectations and attitudes of urban Korean consumers with respect to the Korea-USA Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which was drafted on April, 2007. The data were collected through online surveys in which 527 adults answered structured questionnaires. The results showed that the number of consumers who favored the Korea-U.S.A. FTA was almost twice the number of those who objected to it. Most of the consumers surveyed expected not only positive effects but also negative ones from the FTA, and the more consumers expected positive effects from the FTA, the more they tended to have positive attitudes toward the trade agreement. The effects of consumers' individual characteristics on their expectations and attitudes were also analyzed in this experiment.

The goals of this research were 1) to identify the types of brand relationships between young female consumers and apparel brands, and 2) to examine the influence of brand relationships over consumers'favorable attitudes and strong attachment (durability) to the brands. For the purpose of this study, ten casual wear brands, which are highly perceived by and popular with high school and university female students, were chosen by a preliminary inquiry. And then focused group interviews were performed to develop a questionnaire. The main examination was performed from August 20 to September 12, 2000, using five types of surveys each of which contained two brands. SPSS 8.0 was used for factor analysis and recession analysis. Four types of brand relationships were categorized based on the results of factor analysis: self-devotion, intimacy, rejection and trust. Each factor showed significant influence on both positive altitude and durability.

  • Much research has focused on the conflict and balance between work and family. Yet few studies examine how women feel in balancing these two roles. In that regard, this study examines how married working women feel balanced between work and family as well as the levels of support availability/demand that exists. The level of sense of balance regarding work-family is average. Sense of balance is related to age, income, work hours, size of workplace, numbers of family friendly policies, the family's attitude to woman's work, and the level of balancing strategies used. The demand for support is higher than the availability of support. Both factors are related to working hours and balancing strategies, etc.

  • The market for a payday advance, regarded as both a convenient and short term-loan for immediate financial help, has grown incredibly since the 1990's. Despite its popularity by borrowers and the possible benefits, it has received negative publicity. Some borrowers have been caught in a debt trap for a long-term period and at tripledigit interest rates. The objective of this study is to shed light on the borrowers' profiles and their demand for a payday advance. Based on the 2010 household level data from the U.S. Federal Reserve Board, this study finds that payday advance users are pronounced as seemingly risky people. Payday advance users tend to be college drop-outs, African Americans, and non-homeowners compared to non-payday advance users. They are more likely to overspend above their income and have a favorable attitude toward conspicuous spending than non-payday advance users. They tend not to shop at all nor perform even moderate shopping for credit before using a payday advance service as opposed to non-payday advance users.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine: (1) the relationships among internalization of sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, body comparison, and body dissatisfaction in adolescent girls; and (2) whether or not body comparison mediates the relationship between internalization of sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and body dissatisfaction. The participants consisted of 291 girls from fifth through ninth grades. The data were collected by means of questionnaires given in classroom settings. The findings are as follows: there are significant bivariate correlations among internalization of sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, body comparison, and body dissatisfaction. Furthermore, body comparison partially mediates the relationship between internalization of sociocultural attitude towards appearance and body dissatisfaction. These results seem to indicate that the idea that there are multiple standards of beauty and individuality for every person should be promoted, and this in turn could lower the risk of body dissatisfaction among adolescent girls.
