  • Incheon International Airport Construction Project the biggest national multi-complex construction project in a single area in Korea, the necessity for introducing the Program Management System has been brought up from the development stage due to its specific characteristics and environment and with the Project Management Services Contract in December 1994 the system has been established and operated. At the time of contracting, there were controversies over the expected effect of the system since there were no related laws and regulations in domestic construction codes. Furthermore the situation was very hard in which some practical problems have been found in the process of applying and operating the system due to the lack of recognition and infrastructure in Korea. Incheon. In spite of these difficulties, thanks to the devotion and efforts of the project participants along with thoughtful concerns from the industries and the academies, the project goal has been successfully accomplished. This paper will analyze the various problems arose in the process of applying the Project Management System to Incheon International Airport and present more practical and desirable ways so that it can help to make the environment for properly settling Construction Management at the earliest.

  • In domestic, the Quality Management system of construction work has been compounded of the association of regulation which is ground for relevant law and operation of Quality Management system by ISO/KS A 9001(QMS) established by the contractor. Two quality guaranteed systems must be operated with complementary and integrated system, but we can not make full use of QMS of contractor and only run routinized quality management system in all construction project by the standard, methods, process provided in the law. These problems were demanded better condition in the past ten years, since the ISO standards have been introduced. Establishing preventive consideration of quality management by setting a goal of drastic quality guarantee is an urgent problem of construction industry. This study is quick to fellow, which should do three things. 1. The attitude survey related quality management of staff in charge in construction site has run. 2. Base on these results, we adjust satisfaction measurement about operation of construction quality management system. 3. Subsequently, we want to offer our thesis about advanced opinion for the next.

  • A ubiquitous environment in construction requires integrating hardware and software systems. Currently the Construction System Integration Lab (CSIL) at Pusan National University is currently studying the application of ubiquitous technology for better communication in the construction process. In this paper, a pilot of Ubiquitous Concrete Pour System (u-CPS) has been presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of data exchange in the concrete pour process. The u-CPS environment takes advantage of the RFID technology for collecting construction data. The pilot can automatically generate the data for concrete pour work such as departure time, arrival time, concrete pour time. Construction managers can keep track of the progress of concrete pour work using the information. A case study was done for a building construction using the pilot system, the result of which demonstrated that the RFID-base system can help improve the effectiveness of data communication during the concrete pour process.

  • A construction supply chain needs an integrated information system, as the general contractor and subcontractors must communicate regularly with one another and share a substantial amount of information in their cooperative work. In the construction industry, supply chain management is necessary in the management of a system, including business process improvement, participant-oriented management, and the supply chain. This research proposed a supporting system and developed the prototype focusing on materials that play an important role in the supply chain. Construction projects are managed mainly through schedule management. As such, supply chain management should be linked with schedule management. The research implemented a prototype of the supporting system for construction supply chain management. The prototype was implemented in Microsoft Project using VBA, including a simulation tool based on @Risk for Project.

  • Green building information used by the AEC industry is diverse and extensive), causing difficulties for personnel regarding the collection and utilization of information in the form of inaccurate searches about related laws, inefficient management of searched information and overlapping works. Therefore, this research aims to propose a law search system utilizing metadata for more accurate and efficient searches of green building information. The proposed system is expected to contribute to improve productivity of construction projects by reinforcing the accuracy and efficiency of searches for the collection and utilization of green building information.

  • The main goal of construction projects from the past has been enhancing efficiency by reducing cost and time. but, seeing the current condition of safety management of many construction companies nowadays, it is true that not much attention has been paid to safety management for a long time. However, there are paradigm shift from the cost and term of works to safety management in the construction industry, from this circumstance the safety management is evaluated more importantly. Though less accident happens compared to past, the accidents are getting greater because construction projects nowadays are bigger and more complex and monetary loss from the accidents are increasing. Also, the severity is getting greater and even fatal. For this reason, more improved safety management is very necessary. Therefore, we are to propose more efficient system for safety management in this thesis. Technical parts for developing system include many technique such as Real Time Locating system, and other techniques like Monitoring module based on BIM, Data Mart, Alarm are also applied together. Through this system, in the construction site, safety management is performed more effectively and widely because the system can manage the human resource and fluid situation. Also, safety manager can conduct more systematically and advanced safety management through human resource dominated safety management.

  • The results of the study include a computerized system and a systematic Process model for risk management and analysis. This study analyzes the present status of risk management in the construction industry, and then suggests reasonable methods for improved risk management plans. This study defines risk management procedures as preparation, identification, analysis, response and management to manage potential risks In the construction project. The modules for computerizing this system consist of planning, construction, application of WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) and RBS (Risk Breakdown Structure), and risk analysis. The method logy for analyzing construction risk uses fuzzy theory, and the scope of developed system is focused to the contractors. The risk management system suggested in this study operates on the Internet, for providing contractors with a useful risk management tool by online system, with web-based menus that is helpful for practical application.

  • In the construction industry, expectations for the Precast Concrete(PC) construction method are rising due to demands for high quality and productivity and social and environmental issues. However, although technical problems that occurred in the early stages of technology introduction have been solved, research related to proper construction management for PC construction methods has been relatively neglected and the advantages of PC construction methods have not been fully utilized. In this study, each group involved in PC works was surveyed to identify important management tasks affecting productivity of PC works to improve PC contruction management system. Based on factor analysis, 22 tasks were calssified into 5 management groups. The results of this study will be used to present a framework for the application of automation and information technology to improve the productivity of PC works.

  • The Elements of common temporary work in Construction Project have ambiguous work scope between client and builder. Also problems of non-breakdown, non-standardization in common temporary work are obstructive when contract. Finally they will be reached claim factors on the construction project. Because the common temporary work information management system is not built, We have to develop common temporary work information management system based on historical cost database for Construction Management. This system will successively accomplish the project in pre-construction step to standardize work items and to forecast the cost of common temporary work. Therefore feasibility study will be possible with historical database in new project.

  • According to this plant construction trends, the future plant construction will be very complex, specialization and oversize, so it is expected that future plant construction will create high-profits and require the connection between high-technology and construction method. To catch this advance, more detail business management plan and knowledge sharing technology are needed as basic element. Consequently, this study will analyze the status of current plant industry and develop the educational curriculum for plant business participants, and based on study outcome, this study will propose that web-based portal system by Knowledge Management System(KMS) prototype to fit each company's characteristics.
