Parametric design is an important modeling paradigm in CAD/CAM applications, enabling efficient design modifications and variations. One of the major issues in parametric design is to develop a geometric constraint solver that can handle a large set of geometric configurations efficiently and robustly. In this appear, we propose a new approach to geometric constraint solving that employs a graph-based method to solve the ruler-and-compass constructible configurations and a numerical method to solve the ruler-and-compass non-constructible configurations, in a way that combines the advantages of both methods. The geometric constraint solving process consists of two phases: 1) planning phase and 2) execution phase. In the planning phase, a sequence of construction steps is generated by clustering the constrained geometric entities and reducing the constraint graph in sequence. in the execution phase, each construction step is evaluated to determine the geometric entities, using both approaches. By combining the advantages of the graph-based constructive approach with the universality of the numerical approach, the proposed approach can maximize the efficiency, robustness, and extensibility of geometric constraint solver.

In order to adopt feature-based parametric modeling, CAD/CAM applications must have a geometric constraint solver that can handle a large set of geometric configurations efficiently and robustly. In this paper, we describe a graph constructive approach to solving geometric constraint problems. Usually, a graph constructive approach is efficient, however it has its limitation in scope; it cannot handle ruler-and-compass non-constructible configurations and under-constrained problems. To overcome these limitations. we propose an algorithm that isolates ruler-and-compass non-constructible configurations from ruler-and-compass constructible configurations and applies numerical calculation methods to solve them separately. This separation can maximize the efficiency and robustness of a geometric constraint solver. Moreover, the solver can handle under-constrained problems by classifying under-constrained subgraphs to simplified cases by applying classification rules. Then, it decides the calculating sequence of geometric entities in each classified case and calculates geometric entities by adding appropriate assumptions or constraints. By extending the clustering types and defining several rules, the proposed approach can overcome limitations of previous graph constructive approaches which makes it possible to develop an efficient and robust geometric constraint solver.
This paper studies a real-time VBR traffic characterization. There are two big approaches to determine traffic. One is a statistic approach and the other is a deterministic approach. This paper proposes a new constraint function, what we called “Sub-Sum Constraint Function”(SSCF). This function is mainly based on a deterministic approach and uses a statistic approach. It predicts and calculates the next rate with a present information about the stream. SSCF captures the intuitive bounded by a rate lower than its peak rate and closer to its long-term average rate. This model makes a order of the constraint function much less than any other works (O(n)). It can also be mapped on a token bucket algorithm which consists of r (token rate) and b (token depth). We use a concept, EB(effective bandwidth) for a utility of our function and comparing with other techniques such as CBR, average VBR. We simulated 21 multimedia sources for verifying the utility of our function.
This paper is an HPSG approach to agreement phenomena involving the Korean honorific expressions. it is shown that the theoretical devices developed by the constraint-based theory of HPSG can be fruitfully used to capture the interactions between syntactic constraints and semantic of pragmatic factors in Korean honorific agreement. The HPSG's semantic feature 'referential index' plays a key rele in discribing the multiple interaction. The constraint-based theory of agreement proves successful in accounting for the phenomenon that may be called 'inconsistent' honorific agreement as well as 'consistent' regular honorific usages. However, this paper acknowledges its limit. Recognizing an important distinction between basic and 'coercive' honorific expressions, it is argued that a systactic-semantic-pragmatic approach such as the present one can only be applied to basic honorific agreement. Being sociolinguistic in nature, coercive honorific agreement is perhaps not amenable to formal linguistic investigation.

This paper presents a reliability-based shape optimization (RBSO) using the evolutionary structural optimization (ESO). An actual design involves uncertain conditions such as material property, operational load, poisson's ratio and dimensional variation. The deterministic optimization (DO) is obtained without considering of uncertainties related to the uncertainty parameters. However, the RBSO can consider the uncertainty variables because it has the probabilistic constraints. In order to determine whether the probabilistic constraint is satisfied or not, simulation techniques and approximation methods are developed. In this paper, the reliability-based shape design optimization method is proposed by utilization the reliability index approach (RIA), performance measure approach (PMA), single-loop single-vector (SLSV), adaptive-loop (ADL) are adopted to evaluate the probabilistic constraint. In order to apply the ESO method to the RBSO, a sensitivity number is defined as the change of strain energy in the displacement constraint. Numerical examples are presented to compare the DO with the RBSO. The results of design example show that the RBSO model is more reliable than deterministic optimization.
Every language employs its own morphological and syntactic ways of expressing gradable concepts and making comparison between properties of two objects. Korean uses the adverb te 'more' and the post-position pota 'than' to express such relations objects, but displays quite different grammatical properties from a language like English. This paper shows how a constraint-based grammar, HPSG, can provide a robust basis for the grammatical analysis of Korean comparative constructions.
One of the major issues in inertial and magnetic measurement unit (IMMU)-based 3D orientation estimation is compensation for magnetic disturbances in magnetometer signals, as the magnetic disturbance is a major cause of inaccurate yaw estimation. In the proposed approach, a kinematic constraint is used to provide a measurement equation in addition to the accelerometer and magnetometer signals to mitigate the disturbance effect on the orientation estimation. Although a Kalman filter (KF) is the most popular framework for IMMU-based orientation estimation, a complementary filter (CF) has its own advantages over KF in terms of mathematical simplicity and ease of implementation. Accordingly, this paper introduces a quaternion-based CF with a constraint-combined correction equation. Furthermore, the weight of the constraint relative to the magnetometer signal is adjusted to adapt to magnetic environments to optimally deal with the magnetic disturbance. In the results of our validation experiments, the average and maximum of yaw errors were $1.17^{\circ}$ and $1.65^{\circ}$ from the proposed CF, respectively, and $8.88^{\circ}$ and $14.73^{\circ}$ from the conventional CF, respectively, showing the superiority of the proposed approach.

Given a number of training data, a traditional BPN is normally trained by minimizing the absolute difference between target outputs and approximate outputs. When BPN is used as a meta-model for inequality constraint function, approximate optimal solutions are sometimes actually infeasible in a case where they are active at the constraint boundary. The paper describes the development of the efficient BPN based meta-model that enhances the constraint feasibility of approximate optimal solution. The modified BPN based meta-model is obtained by including the decision condition between lower/upper bounds of a constraint and an approximate value. The proposed approach is verified through a simple mathematical function and a ten-bar planar truss problem.

Conditional constraints are frequently used to represent relations. To use these conditional constraints, it is necessary to develop an appropriate logic in which these conditional constraints can be represented and manipulated. Nevertheless, there has been little research that addresses interval-based conditional constraints. The proposed approach addresses the use of conditional constraints involving intervals in constraint networks. Two algorithms are presented: (1) a propagation algorithm for an interval-based conditional constraint, which is similar to one for an exact-value conditional constraint; (2) a propagation algorithm for interval-based conditional constraints which satisfy some conditions. The former can be applied to any conditional constraint. However, with the former algorithm, conditional constraints are usually categorized into the cases that they cannot be propagated. After investigating several methods in which most conditional constraints can be propagated, we propose the latter algorithm under certain condition that usually results in smaller resulting design space comparing to the former.
The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between nominal markers and scrambling in Korean by providing proper LP constraints based on Cho &Chai (2000) anc Cho & Choe(2001). In doing so, we introduce a new type marker which includes case, postpositions and delimiters and propose the Adjunct LP Constraint and the Argument LP Constraint. Our LP constraints presents a solution to the problems of the previous analyses such as Kuno's (1980) Crossing-Over Constraint. The newly postulated type marker enables us to account for the scrambling possibilities of the NPs containing cases as well as postpositions and delimiters.
