Application of a PID Feedback Control Algorithm for Adaptive Queue Management to Support TCP Congestion Control

  • Recently, many active queue management (AQM) algorithms have been proposed to address the performance degradation. of end-to-end congestion control under tail-drop (TD) queue management at Internet routers. However, these AQM algorithms show performance improvement only for limited network environments, and are insensitive to dynamically changing network situations. In this paper, we propose an adaptive queue management algorithm, called PID-controller, that uses proportional-integral-derivative (PID) feedback control to remedy these weak-Dalles of existing AQM proposals. The PID-controller is able to detect and control congestion adaptively and proactively to dynamically changing network environments using incipient as well as current congestion indications. A simulation study over a wide range of IP traffic conditions shows that PID-controller outperforms other AQM algorithms such as Random Early Detection (RED) [3] and Proportional-Integral (PI) controller [9] in terms of queue length dynamics, packet loss rates, and link utilization.

Distributed Rate and Congestion Control for Wireless Mesh Networks

  • Wireless networks (WNs) are developed and applied widely in a lot of areas. Now, a new generation of wireless networks is coming, and that is Wireless Mesh Network (WMN). At present, there are not so many researches which deal on this area. Most researches are derived from Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) and WNs. In WMNs, there are some applications that require real-time delivery. To guarantee this, rate control and congestion control are needed. This problem leads to optimization issue in transport layer. In this paper, we propose a mathematical model which is applied in rate and congestion control in WNMs. From this model, we optimize rate and congestion control in WMNs by maximizing network utility. The proposed algorithm is implemented in distributed way both in links and sources.

시장참여자별 혼잡 및 손실 비용 산정 (Congestion and Loss Cost for the Market Participants)

  • Recently the power system consists of the more complicated structure, due to increase of power demands. In this circumstance, the congestion and loss capacity in transmission line is also increased. Accordingly, the investment planning of transmission system is required to reduce the congestion and loss of the transmission line. This paper proposes a method to compute the congestion and loss costs which are the key elements in economic assessment of the power system planning. And the benefit of market participants in CBP (Cost Based Pool) is computed. To demonstrate the efficient of the suggested methods, these methods are applied to peak load system of 2016 in the 4th Basic plan of Long-Them Electricity Supply and Demand.

풍력발전단지가 연계된 전력계통에서 상정고장을 고려한 발전력 재조정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Rescheduling of Generation Considering Contingency in Power System with Wind Farms)

  • This paper studies on effective rescheduling of generation when the single line contingency has occurred in power system with wind farm. The suggested method is formulated to minimize the rescheduling cost of conventional and wind generators to alleviate congestion. The generator rescheduling method has been used with incorporation of wind farms in the power system. Since all sensitivity is different about congestion line, Line Outage Distribution Factor(LODF) and Generator Sensitivity Factor(GSF) is used to alleviate congestion. The formulation have been proccessed using linear programming(LP) optimization techniques to alleviate transmission congestion. The effectiveness of the proposed rescheduling of generation method has been analyzed on revised IEEE 30-bus systems.

  • 본 논문은 3세대 및 그 이상의 무선망에 대한 기본적인 망의 구조를 IP를 바탕으로한 무선망으로 정의하고 이때 무선 접속망에서의 폭주제어 방법을 제안한다. 기본적으로 제안하는 방법은 ECN(Explicit Congestion Notification)을 바탕으로 하나 무선망과 IP망의 Broadcasting에서의 장점을 이용하여 ECN Broadcasting을 무선 서브망에서 수행하도록 하여 미래의 무선망에서의 이동성 지원으로 인한 폭주제어에 있어서 효율성을 갖도록 하였다.

H.264/SVC 스트리밍을 위한 가중치 기반 혼잡 제어 알고리즘 (Weight-based Congestion Control Algorithms for H.264/SVC Streaming)

  • 인터넷은 패킷의 지연시간과 손실에 대한 보장을 제공하지 않기 때문에 일시적인 네트워크 혼잡은 H.264/SVC 스트리밍에 부정적인 영향을 줄 수 있다. 따라서 H.264/SVC 향상 계층을 제거하여 전송율을 제어함으로써 혼잡을 회피하는 기법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 비디오의 중요도에 따라 스트림을 분류한 후, 스트림의 비트율-왜곡 특성을 이용한 가중치 기반 혼잡 제어 알고리즘을 제안한다. 즉, 제한된 대역폭을 가진 네트워드 노드에서 가중치를 고려한 PSNR의 합을 최대화하기 위해, H.264/SVC 향상 계층의 수를 제어하는 WNS(Weighted Near-Sighted), WFS(Weighted Far-Sighted) 알고리즘을 제안한다. 그리고 시뮬레이션을 통해 가중치 기반 알고리즘의 효용성을 보이고 알고리즘의 특성을 분석한다.

  • Traffic congestion is a severe problem in many modern cities around the world. Real-time and accurate traffic congestion identification can provide the advanced traffic management systems with a reliable basis to take measurements. The most used data sources for traffic congestion are loop detector, GPS data, and video surveillance. Video based traffic monitoring systems have gained much attention due to their enormous advantages, such as low cost, flexibility to redesign the system and providing a rich information source for human understanding. In general, most existing video based systems for monitoring road traffic rely on stationary cameras and multiple vehicle tracking method. However, most commonly used multiple vehicle tracking methods are lack of effective track initiation schemes. Based on the motion of the vehicle usually obeys constant velocity model, a novel vehicle recognition method is proposed. The state of recognized vehicle is sent to the GM-PHD filter as birth target. In this way, we relieve the insensitive of GM-PHD filter for new entering vehicle. Combining with the advanced vehicle detection and data association techniques, this multiple vehicle tracking method is used to identify traffic congestion. It can be implemented in real-time with high accuracy and robustness. The advantages of our proposed method are validated on four real traffic data.

도시고속도로 반복정체 시점의 통계학적 분석방법 (A Statistical Method for Predicting Recurrent Congestion Time in Urban Freeway)

  • 도시고속도로의 반복정체는 발생시점과 지점이 거의 일정하므로 정체발생 예상 및 사전대응을 통한 효과적인 관리가 가능하다. 기존의 교통관리시스템에서는 패턴데이터를 이용하여 반복정체를 관리하고자하였으나 다변하는 도시 부교통에서는 적용하기 어려운 경우가 많았다. 본 논문에서는 반복정체 발생확률을 통계적 분포를 적용한 통행속도별 발생확률을 이용하여 구하고자 하였다. 반복정체 발생확률 추정을 통해 반복정체 발생시점 및 지속시간을 파악하고, 효과적인 사전대응 수립과 교통운영이 가능할 것으로 기대된다

  • Recently the power system consists of the more complicated structure, due to increase of power demands. In this circumstance, the congestion and loss capacity in transmission line is also increased. Accordingly, the investment planning of transmission system is required to reduce the congestion and loss of the transmission line. In study of the planning of domestic and international transmission expansion, the reliability of transmission planning and minimizing Investment cost is focused. However, the study has not been performed systematically in economic aspects. Typically, the congestion and loss costs have been individually calculated. It is not consider the mutual relationship between the congestion cost and the loss cost. This paper proposes a method to compute concurrently the congestion and loss costs. This purpose is to calculate the more exact value for economic assessment of the power system operation.

  • Most of the electric power in the power system of South Korea is flowing from the south area to the north area, Seoul, in the capital of South Korea. Almost of the needs of the electric power in the capital area are about 43% of the total loads and generation plants are mainly located in the south area of South Korea. As mentioned the earlier characteristic, transmission congestion is one of the important research issues. Because of the limits of the power flows from the south to the north which are anticipated to be increased more and more in the future, these congestion situations may cause a serious voltage stability problem in emergency of the power system. Accordingly, we are interested in an interruptible load control program so as to solve this problem in emergency. This problem can be solved by an interruptible load management in emergency, however, the systematic and effective mechanism has not been presented yet. In this paper, the algorithm of interruptible load management plan using the line sensitivity to the loads for the transmission congestion management in emergency is presented. The proposed method is applied to 6-Bus sample system and their results are presented.
