In controlling a system having many variables to control and multi objectives to satisfy such as a roof crane system, it is often difficult to obtain fuzzy If-Then rules in usual ways. As an alternative, we can more easely obtain rules in such a manner that we obtain each independent group of rules using partial variables for a partial objective. In this case, obtained rules can be conflicting with each other and conventional inference methods cannot handle such rules effectively. In this paper, we propose a roof crane controller with optimal velocity profile generator and a fuzzy logic controller with an inference method suitable for such conflicting rules.
This paper is concerned with the production-distribution problem with multiple conflicting objectives. In reality business firms should take account not only of the profit maximization but of various environmental criteria, namely customer services, in order to improve the business logistics. A production-distribution model of goal porgramming type considering the lead time and distribution cost by products is constructed, the solution algorithm is developed, which is based on the Ignizio's method. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the applicability of goal programming for production-distribution problem.
The necessity for appropriate management of water resources infrastructures such as reservoirs, levees, and dikes is increasing due to unexpected hydro-climate irregularities and rising water demands. To meet this need, past studies have focused on advancing theoretical optimization algorithms such as nonlinear programming, dynamic programming (DP), and genetic programming. Yet, the optimally derived theoretical solutions are limited to be directly implemented in making release decisions in the real-world systems for a variety of reasons. This study first aims to comparatively analyze the two prominent optimization methods, DP and evolutionary multi-objective direct policy search (EMODPS), under historical inflow series using K-fold cross validation. A total of six optimization models are formed each with a specific formulation. Then, one of the optimization models was coupled with the actual zone-based hedging rule that has been adopted in practice. The proposed methodology was applied to Boryeong Dam located in South Korea with conflicting objectives between supply and demand. As a result, the EMODPS models demonstrated a better performance than the DP models in terms of proximity to the ideal. Moreover, the incorporation of the real-world policy with the optimal solutions improved in all indices in terms of the supply side, while widening the range of the trade-off between frequency and magnitude measured in the sides of demand. The results from this study once again highlight the necessity of closing the gap between the theoretical solutions with the real-world implementable policies.
For the effective design of automated distribution center composed of Automated Storage/Retrieval System, Automated Guided Vehicle System, and Conveyor System, we proposed an analysis method to determining. design and control parameters with multiple performance objectives using Compromise Programming, which can resolve the dilemma of conflicting objectives. The Evolution Strategy generates the optimal solutions for each objectives. The Analytic Hierarchy Process selects the best solution among the alternatives generated from Evolution Strategy. The Regression Analysis formulates the objective functions for each objectives. By reducing deviations between goal values and target values generated from Analytic Hierarchy Process, Compromise Programming determines design and control parameters by compromising the multiple objectives formulated using Regression Analysis. When the parameters of system are changed, this proposed analysis method has a benefit of reducing costs and time without repeating whole simulation run.
The application of the theoretical model to real assembly lines has been one of the biggest challenges for researchers and industrial engineers. There should be some realistic approach to achieve the conflicting objectives on real systems. Therefore, in this paper, a model is developed to synchronize a real system (A discrete event simulation model) with a theoretical model (An optimization model). This synchronization will enable the realistic optimization of systems. A job assignment model of the assembly line is formulated for the evaluation of proposed realistic optimization to achieve multiple conflicting objectives. The objectives, fluctuation in cycle time, throughput, labor cost, energy cost, teamwork and deviation in the skill level of operators have been modeled mathematically. To solve the formulated mathematical model, a multi-objective simulation integrated hybrid genetic algorithm (MO-SHGA) is proposed. In MO-SHGA each individual in each population acts as an input scenario of simulation. Also, it is very difficult to assign weights to the objective function in the traditional multi-objective GA because of pareto fronts. Therefore, we have proposed a probabilistic based linearization and multi-objective to single objective conversion method at population evolution phase. The performance of MO-SHGA is evaluated with the standard multi-objective genetic algorithm (MO-GA) with both deterministic and stochastic data settings. A case study of the goalkeeping gloves assembly line is also presented as a numerical example which is solved using MO-SHGA and MO-GA. The proposed research is useful for the development of synchronized human based assembly lines for real time monitoring, optimization, and control.
Motivated by the emergency scheduling in a transportation network, this paper considers a transportation problem, in which, the truck times and transportation costs are assumed as uncertain variables. To meet the demand in the practical applications, two optimization objectives are considered, one is the total costs and another is the completion times. And then, a multi-objective optimization model is developed according to the situation in applications. Because there are commensurability and conflicting between the two objectives commonly, a solution does not necessarily exist that is best with respective to the two objectives. Therefore, the problem is reduced to a single objective model, which is an uncertain programming with a chance-constrain. After some analysis, its equivalent deterministic form is obtained, which is a nonlinear programming. Based on a stepwise optimization strategy, a solution method is developed to solve the problem. Finally, the computational results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and algorithm.
The decision making process for production planning in FMS usually involves multiple conflicting objectives and criteria. This study consists of prescreening and analytical phase. In the prescreening phase, criteria are used to reduce the set of alternative system configuration down to a small number of candidates. After this phase, a multiobjected programming model is formulated for each remainning configuration.
For many practical optimization problems where the system components are stochastic, the objective functions can not be represented analytically. Furthermore, many of these problems are characterized by the presence of multiple and conflicting objectives. In this research, we introduce a new algorithm through an interactive cutting plane method for solving this multi-criteria simulation optimization problem. Then a turning process is evaluated through the proposed algorithm.
This paper deals with a transportation problem with two objectives, that is, transportation cost and vital-route shipment. In the transportation problem minimizing cost is sometimes conflicting minimizing vital-route shipment. This paper develops an algorithm finding paneto-optimal solutions in minimizing vital-route shipment and cost, and also presents theoretical backgrounds for developing an algorithm.
Background : There have been a variety of healthcare systems related to CAM practitioners developed in each country. However, the European cases have not been widely introduced in Korea so far. In the case of Germany, CAM practices have been developed in the frame of "Heilpraktiker" system. Objectives : The objectives of this study were to review the historical development and current situation of German Heilpraktiker system and its conflicting relationship with Western medical doctors, in order to utilize it as basic data for the conflict resolution between Western- and KM doctors in Korea. Methods : The historical development, current regulations and education system of Heilpraktiker were assessed. Research articles, reports, government publications and websites dealing with this issue were searched for and analyzed. Results : Heilpraktiker system was developed within German historical and cultural situation where naturopathic traditions were reilluminated in connection with modernization process of the state under the influence of romanticism formulating German nationalism. Between the concept of "Kurierverbot"(prohibition on medical treatment by non-physicians) and "Kurierfreiheit"(freedom of medical treatment), Heilpraktiker achieved a limited but legitimated right to conduct non-biomedical treatments from the state in the process of the formulation of modern German medical system. In this process, the conflicts between medical doctors and heilpraktikers have been also growing up to now. Conclusions : Heilpraktiker system, officially recognized with the legislation of Heilpraktiker law in 1939, stands at a crossroads between the continual development through strengthening its professionality, and abolition of the system due to its lack of quality control and medical evidence mostly argued by Western medical doctors, which has considerable implications for Korean situations in terms of the conflicting relationship between KM- and Western medical doctors. In this regard, it is necessary to discuss the debates on the concept "Kurierfreiheit"(freedom of medical treatment) developed within German tradition of medical pluralism.
