Interpersonal Conflict Management Strategies Selected by Childcare Teachers (보육교사들이 선택한 갈등관리전략)

  • This study observed co-worker's conflict situations and interpersonal conflict management strategies from 5 teacher's conversations and informal gatherings in a new born child classroom. Taxonomic analysis, Domain analysis, and Componential analysis(Spradley, 1980) were used to analyze co-worker's conflict situations, and Styles of Handling Interpersonal Conflict(Rahim, 1983) were used to analyze the child care teachers' interpersonal conflict management strategies. The findings of this study were as follows: First, child care teachers experience conflict. The causes of conflict were to do their best, to protect the right of teachers, and to work jointly. Second, Dominating conflict management strategy was used when a cook wouldn't provide teacher's snacks or adopt a teacher's suggestion about methods of providing snacks. Avoiding conflict management strategy was used when a cleaner asked for help or a supervisor asked for extra work. Integrating conflict management strategy was used when infant care teachers suggested ways to go on a vacation. Obliging conflict management strategy was used when teachers followed the principal's directions to sit in and observe another teacher's classroom. Compromising conflict management strategy was used when infant care teachers suggested ways to clean up a play room together.

The Types of Explanation about Different Experimental Data with Students' Preconceptions on Physical Experiment (물리실험에서 선개념과 불일치한 실험 데이터에 대한 학생들의 해석 유형)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the types of explanation about different experimental data on students' preconceptions on physical experiment. 45 students were selected from P University by examining their pre-test. The subjects had a scientific conception about a simple pendulum's period of movement, and expected that there was no change in the movement even when the mass of water increased in the can. The students were presented data about pendulum movement inside a can. They recorded this in a blank table and drew a graph about the movement of the pendulum. The responses of students were tested by presenting written anomalous experimental data. Students' recognition, trust about the anomalous data, cognitive conflict, belief change about their preconceptions were examined with written tests also. To measure students' cognitive conflict levels, CCLT (Cognitive Conflict Levels Test) developed in a previous study was used. Some students responded based on preconceptions and regarded the data as manufactured data or experimental error. The students who recognized the anomaly in the situation showed higher cognitive conflict levels than those who didn't recognize the anomaly in the situation. The students who changed their beliefs about preconceptions recognized the data as anomalous situations and showed high cognitive conflict levels than those who didn't abandon their preconceptions. The students who have unchanged beliefs about their preconceptions regarded the data as experimental error.

The Analyses of the Change Process of Students' Physics Conceptions by the Types of Conflict Situations (갈등상황 제시 유형에 따른 학생 개개인의 물리 개념 변화 과정 경로 분석)

  • The purpose of the study is to understand the change process of middle school students' physics conceptions by the presented types of conflict situations. 274 middle school students were selected from one school in Pusan, however 257 students were participated in all the procedure of the study. After we classified students' physics conceptions into scientific and unscientific conceptions, presented three types of conflict situations. In this study three different cognitive conflict strategies were adopted; the first one is logical arguments(LCS: logical conflict situation), the second is actual demonstration(DCS: demonstrational conflict situation), and the third is two strategies together(DLCS). In this study, first, we investigated the change process of students' physics conceptions by three types of conflict situations. Second, we compared the effect of three conflict situations presentation, which includes positive effect by conceptual change from misconception to scientific conception and negative effect by conceptual change from scientific conception to misconception. Third, we studied characteristics of conceptual change by characteristics of conflict situations. In result, DLCS group and DCS group were more positive effect than LCS group in mechanics, DLCS group and LCS group were more positive effect than DCS group in electricity. It seems that mechanics are closely related to physical experiences, while electricity are more abstract.

Measurement of Multi Conflict Avoidance for Free flight Efficiency (자유비행 다중 충돌회피 효율성 측정 연구)

  • In this paper, study the substantial issues which occurs upon free flight environment by performing separation assurance under multiple conflict(over 3 Aircraft), recovery en route under the terms of time constrains and fixed way point after the conflict avoidance, correlations between conflict detection distance and separation assurance by utilizing Autonomous flight algorithm. Result of this experiment demonstrates that the extension of detection distance is advantageous to solution of separation assurance and enhancing of flight efficiency, choose to maneuver by applying time constrain terms and fixed way point according to the situation of conflict prediction in case of recovery maneuver after the conflict avoidance. And separation assurance can be solved by applying 2 degrees or more of bank angle. When choosing the optimal bank angle could be drastically improved flight efficiency.

Nurse Managers in a Difficult Situation on Caring Clients: A Critical Discourse Analysis (병동 간호관리자의 문제상황 관리 경험)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to explore the discourses and the patterns of problem solving behaviors among the nurse managers. The focus of the study was the difficult situations in caring with patients and their families. Methods: Field study was performed at a for-profit hospital from March, 2004 to March, 2007. The participants of the study were 5 head nurses and 2 nurses in charge. The data were collected with iterative interviews and participant-observations. For the analysis of the data, taxonomy and critical discourse analyzing were applied. Results: The nurse mangers who showed wholistic patterns of behavior took the role of a broker among the client system, professional nursing system, medical system, and other allied health system. The nurse managers whose approach was profession-centered took the role of protector of nursing system. The nurse manager who practiced nurse-oriented pattern of behavior tried not to have harm against other members of health system. The experiences of nurse managers were effected from the discourses of patriarchal and market mechanism. Conclusion: The situation that provoke conflict between clients and nurses become more common with the changes to the health care system and to society. Nurse managers take the role of these conflict problems. The successful solving of conflict in a nursing care setting promotes the quality of care and satisfaction of clients. Programs for enhancing nurse's problem solving competency should anchored be in their practices.

Nurses' Work-Life Balance and Parenting Experience (간호사의 일-가정 양립 및 양육경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the balance of work-life and parenting experience of nurses. Methods: This qualitative study used the phenomenological methodology proposed by Giorgi. In-depth interviews were conducted on a total of 10 participants working at hospitals in Seoul and Gyeongnam province in 2017 to collect data. Results: Four main issues were deduced: "complex situation between work and parenting," "conflict situation of being in a double bind between work and parenting," "the power to endure both work and parenting," and "finding hope between work and parenting. Conclusion: The findings in this study provide an in-depth understanding on the work-life balance and parenting experience of nurses. These findings should help in the development of solutions to the conflict between work and family for nurses and enable them to develop effective strategies.

  • The train conflict resolution problem refers to an adjustment of the train operation schedule in order to minimize the delay propagation when a train conflict is predicted or when a train conflict occurs. Previous train studies of train conflict resolutions are limited in terms of the size of the problems to be solved due to exponential increases in the variables. In this paper, we propose a train conflict resolution model using a time-space network to solve the train conflict situation in the operational phase. The proposed model adjusts the size of the problem by giving only the dwell tolerance in the time-space network only for stops at the station after a train conflict. In addition, the proposed model can solve large problems using a path flow variable. The study presents a train delay propagation analysis and experimental results of train conflict resolution assessments as well using the proposed model.

  • Problem based learning(PBL) is one of the learning strategies from the constructivism. It is a learning centered students. The tutors are facillitators as activators, helpers and cooperators not organizer in the classrooms. PBL makes that students learn creativity, independence, reasoning skits, communication and collaboration for problem solving. As the PBL process, students get the problems that are in real situation, discussed with others for brain storming, self directed study and revisited to the situation. They think critically and apply to the real situation. When students are to be physical therapists, they are easy to adopt their job and efficient to manage well. But inspite of a lot of advantages to them, there are much conflict to use as the learning strategies. Students perceived one of best learning method that they have experienced, but there are stress, burden, anxiety, timeless to prepare, lack of information and so on. PBL is effective to learning health oriented subjects, problem solving, even a lot preparation and processing for learning. It is reduced the differences between theories in colleges and practices in the fields. In processing of PBL, students get more many skills than the conventional learning. As trying many times to the classrooms, we can fixed to PBL with mistakes and conflict for better the development of the teaching and learning.

The Effects by Learners' Characteristics on Scientific Conceptual Changes using Cognitive Conflict Strategy (인지갈등 전략을 이용한 과학 개념변화에서 학습자 특성의 효과)

  • Cognitive conflict plays a very important role towards conceptual change in science education. Many research were conducted on the topic, but they were limited and failed to determine the effectiveness of cognitive conflict strategies for conceptual change on science instruction. It is worth noting that the levels of cognitive conflict varied the same given situation. Besides, the conceptual change resulted in different forms, despite the same level of cognitive conflict. Assuming that one explanation could be found in the learners' characteristics, this study investigated the cognitive conflict and scientific conceptual change by learners' characteristics of middle school students. A proper understanding of the cognitive conflict will help science teachers to apply effectively the strategies towards science conceptual instruction. In this study, learners' characteristics are 'intelligence', 'cognitive level', 'general grade of science subject', 'cognitive style', 'personality', and 'attitudes related to science'. The results says; the intensity of cognitive conflict correlated with students' personality (reflectiveness) and attitudes related to science, and conceptual change correlated with intelligence and cognitive level.

The Effect of Preceptor Preparation Education on the Preceptor's Role Recognition, Role Conflict and Professional Self-Concept (프리셉터 교육이 프리셉터 역할인식과 역할갈등 및 전문직 자아개념에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of preceptor preparation education on the preceptor's role recognition, role conflict and professional self-concept. Method: A Quasi-experimental design with non-equivalant control group was used. The subjects included 39 nurses, 19 in experimental group, and 20 in the control group. The program consisted of introduction of preceptor education program & curriculum, change of hospital management environment, the newest trend of nursing course, concept of preceptorship, steps of preceptorship, role of preceptor, attitude of preceptor, role of education, etiquette in nursing situation, policy of clinical education ability improvement, communication, conflict management, nursing ethics, contents concerned nursing professionalist, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and medication. The data was collected from September 29 to November 17, 2007 using a structured questionnaire. Result: Preceptor's role recognition was increased significantly in the experimental group. However, role conflict and professional self-concept weren't significantly changed in the experimental group, compared to the control group. Conclusion: This study provides evidence for potential and beneficial effect of preceptor preparation education program on nurses.
