  • Induction is a method of heating electrically conductive materials such as metals. It is commonly used in process heating prior to metalworking and in heating, welding, and melting. The number of industrial and consumer items which undergo induction heating during some stage of their production is very large and rapidly expanding. So a program to analyze the induction heating system was developed through the research. This thesis contains the procedure for developing the program. Both eddy current and temperature distribution are obtained through the analysis of the induction heating system. The program was developed to calculate 2-dimensional axisymmetric problem. The validity of the program is scrutinized through the comparison between the analytic solution and the numerical solution.

  • Rapid mold heating has been recent issue to enable the injection molding of thin-walled parts or micro/nano structures. Induction heating is an efficient way to heat a conductive workpiece by means of high-frequency electric current caused by electromagnetic induction. Because the induction heating is a convenient and efficient way of indirect heating, it has various applications such as heat treatment, brazing, welding, melting, and mold heating. The present study covers an experimental investigation on the rapid heating using the induction heating and rapid cooling using a vortex tube in order to eliminate an excessive cycle time increase. Experiments are performed in the case of a steel cup mold core with various heating and cooling conditions. Temperature is measured during heating and cooling time, from which appropriate mold heating and cooling conditions can be obtained.

  • This paper studies electrostatically suspended induction motors (ESIM). The ESIM possesses the rotating ability of an ordinary electrostatic induction motor, in addition to providing contactless support by electrostatic suspension. To accomplish these two functions, a feedback control strategy and the operating principle of an ordinary electrostatic induction motor are used. The stator possesses electrodes which exert the electrostatic forces to the rotor and are divided into a part responsible for suspension and one for rotation. Two rotor types are utilized: a polished glass disk without any surface treatment, and a polished glass disk covered with a thin layer of conductive material (ITO layer) on only one side. In this paper, the principle of the ESIM is described, followed by stator electrode design, experimental apparatus, control strategy for stable suspension. Experimental results show that the glass disk has been rotated with a speed of approximately 70 rpm while being suspended stably at a gap length of 0.3 mm.

  • We have performed 3-D geomagnetic induction Modeling considering with anomalous conductive structures to interpret the conductive anomaly proposed by previous studies on the Korean Peninsula. The results of modeling coincide well with the observed induction arrow. we confirm the fact that Imjin River Belt and Ogcheon Belt presumed in the model are reasonable. In the western-middle area of the peninsula (YIN, ICHN) the induction arrows seem to reflect the existence for the Imjin River Belt and the induction arrows in western-south area (HNS, CHY, DZN, MWN) is likely to reflect the effect of the Ogcheon Belt. The difference arrows, calculated by subtracting the sea effect from observed induction arrow in the western area of the peninsula at the period of 60-minutes, show little difference with the observed induction arrows. Especially, the difference arrows in YIN, ICHN also show a similar pattern to those at the periods longer than 10-minutes. These results strongly suggest that the Imjin River Belt and the Ogcheon Belt extend down to the deep part of the crust in spite of the limitation of our model.

  • FEF(Focused Electromagnetic Field) technique was newly developed that is based on the induction principle exciting electromagnetic field. The technique consists of an induction wire and a sensor for detecting electromagnetic field, and is applied in a non-contact mode. In this study, the technique was applied to the evaluation of EDM slits in some conductive materials - aluminum alloy, stainless steel and Inconel alloy. The voltage in the non-defect region is depended upon the measurement lift-off. The voltage signals on defects are measured with peak values, and the peak values changed with the depth of defects. The voltage distributions for all conductive materials are the same trend.

  • Induction cooktop has a great attention due to its safety, quick heating and cleanness compared to gas oven. However, the materials for induction cookware is limited to steel or stainless-steel which has the magnetic property. Recently, it has been tried to apply various porcelain to induction cookware after printing the silver layer on the bottom of cookware plates and co-firing at high temperature. Glass frits are added in the silver paste to improve an adhesion force between porcelain materials containers and transferred silver layer. The hybrid silver pastes for induction cookware requires the proper electrical resistance and the thermal conductivity with base plates. After sintering process at $800^{\circ}C$, a part of melted glass migrated to the porcelain and the rest of the glass frit was exposed to the surface. It was confirmed that most of the glass frit formed an adhesion layer between the porcelain and transferred silver layer that enhances the adhesion force.

  • An inverter-driven induction motor is used as the traction motor for a high speed drive system that required safty, reliability and performance and so on. rotor bar and end ring of the traction motor are the electrical equipments which form the conductive close loop and then induce current by interaction wi th the current of stator. the materials selection of rotor bar and end ring are seriously considered in the aspects of electrical and mechanical specification and Motor slip relation to inverter. Particularly motor slip guarantee the safty and reliability of induction motor. this paper show the material selection and the determining of slip in the design of traction motor for high speed train by analyzing the specifications of material being used currently.

  • This paper presents the flow characteristics in the fluid circulation loop using the tubular type linear induction motor(TLIM) electromagnetic pump. A TLIM pump was designed using the equivalent and genetic algorithm for the flow system of 40[1/min]. The flow characteristics are analyzed by coupling the Maxwell equations with the Navier-Stokes equation. The analysis algorithm also takes account of the effects of the thrust. The flow characteristics are analysed with the proposed method and compared with the commercial program and experiment and discussed.

  • As the capacity of the wireless power transmission increases, a higher supply current which may induce current in nearby conductive parts requires. Induced current may affect electric shock to the human body and malfunction of the electrical equipment. In order to prevent such induced phenomena as a risk factor, shielding is required between the source of the wireless power transmission and the conductive parts. The resonance frequency for the large capacity wireless power transmission has the wavelength of several hundred meters, so most environments are included in the near-field area. By wave impedance, the electric field has higher density in the near-field area and needs to be analyze for protecting. For this purpose, it is necessary to select a substance having a larger electric conductivity and optimized shielding structure. In this paper, an aluminum base shielding structure was presented to conduct experiments on thickness, position, and heat dissipation. In the 35 kW, 60 kHz environments, the optimized 5T Al base shielding structure attenuates the induced current to 43 %.
