This paper presents an experimental study on the enhancement of electromagnetic shielding (EMI) properties of glass fiber, carbon fiber, and glass-carbon fiber composites by adding layers of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). In the case of glass-fiber composites, spraying 0.1~0.2 g of MWCNT over a fiber area of $200mm{\times}200mm$ (1.8~3.6 ${\mu}m$ in thickness) resulted in significant improvement in EMI shielding effectiveness (SE). Also, when applying multiple MWCNT layers, it was more effective to place the layers concentrated near the center of the composite rather than spreading them out. On the contrary, inherently conductive carbon fiber and glass-carbon fiber composites did not show appreciable improvement with the addition of MWCNT layers. In order to maximize the effectiveness of carbon nanomaterials as EMI shielding fillers, it is imperative to understand the effect of these materials on various EMI shielding mechanisms and their interactions.
The mechanical and electrical properties of the hot-pressed and annealed $\beta$-Sic-$TiB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as function of the liquid forming additives of $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_3$. Phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed $\alpha$-SiC(6H), $TiB_2$, and YAG($Al_{5}Y_{3}O_{12}$). The relative density and the mechanical properties of composites were increased with increasing $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_3$ contents because YAG of reaction between $Al_{2}O_3$ and $Y_{2}O_3$ was increased. The Flexural strength showed the highest value of 432.5MPa for composites added with l2wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_3$ additives at room temperature. Owing to crack deflection, crack bridging, phase transition and YAG of fracture toughness mechanism. the fracture toughness showed 7.1MPa${\cdot}m^{1/2}$. For composites added with l2wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_3$ additives at room temperature The electrical resistivity and the resistance temperature coefficient respectively showed the lowest of 6.0${\sim}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}$ cm and 3.1${\times}10^{-3}/^{\circ}C$ for composite added with l2wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}+Y_{2}O_3$ additives at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature range of 25$^{\circ}C$ to 700$^{\circ}C$.

In this study, alumina plates 9~25 μm in size were used as thermal fillers, and epoxy resin was used as a polymer matrix. Oriented alumina plate/epoxy composites were prepared using a rolling method. The effect of ordering alumina plates increased with alumina plate size. The thermal conductivity and flexural strength of the composites were investigated. The horizontal thermal conductivity of the oriented composite was significantly higher than the vertical thermal conductivity. The horizontal thermal conductivity of the 75 wt% alumina content was 8.78 W/mk, although the vertical thermal conductivity was 1.04 W/mk. Ordering of the alumina plate using a rolling method significantly improved the thermal conductivity in the horizontal direction. The flexural strengths of the ordered alumina/epoxy composites prepared at different curing temperatures were measured.
In this study, the effects of carbon black (CB) content and anodic oxidation treatment with $AgNO_3$ on positive temperature coefficient (PTC) behavior of CB/HDPE nanocomposites were investigated. Also, the addition of elastomer as a toughing agent was studied. The 20~50 wt% of CB, 0~5 wtt% of elastomer, and 1 wt% of $AgNO_3$-filled HDPE nanocomposites were prepared using the internal mixer in 60 rpm at $160{\circ}C$ and the compression-molded at $180{\circ}C$ for 10 min. As a result, the room temperature resistivity and PTC intensity of the composites were dependent, to a large extent, on the content of CB, addition of elastomer, and surface chemical properties that were controlled in the relative arrangements of the carbon black aggregates in a polymeric matrix. Moreover, the composites with relatively low room temperature resistivity and suitable PTC intensity could be achieved by treatment of $AgNO_3$. Consequently, it was noted that PTC effect was due to the deagglomeration or the breakage of the conductive networks caused by thermal expansion or crystalline melting of the polymeric matrix.

Carbon composites for flexible fiber heating element were examined to improve the electrical conductivity in this study. Carbon composites using carbon black, denka black, super-c, super-p with/without CNF or dispersant such as BCS03 and Sikament-nn were prepared. Carbon composite slurry was coated on plane film and yarns(cotton, polyester) and the performances of prepared heating materials were investigated by checking electrical surface resistance, adhesion strength. The plane heating element using carbon black under natural drying condition($25^{\circ}C$) had better physical properties such as surface resistance(185.3 Ohm/sq) and adhesion strength(above 90%) than those of other carbon composite heating elements. From these results, polyester heating element coated by carbon black showed better electrical line resistance(33.2 kOhm/cm) than cotton heating element. Then, it was found that polyester heating element coated by carbon black with CNF(3 wt%) and BCS03(1 wt%) appeared best properties(0.604 kOhm/cm).

A bipolar plate is an important component in a fuel cell in the sense of cost and weight. This study aimed at developing highly conductive, lightweight, and low cost bipolar plates. Hybrid carbons filled poly(phenylene sulfide)(PPS) composite bipolar plates were prepared by using the compression molding technique. Various types and amounts of conducting carbon fillers such as graphite, carbon black, carbon fibers, and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were adopted for the composites. Electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of the composites were measured in order to investigate effects of each components of fillers. When the graphite is only used as a conducting filler, the electrical conductivity of the composites increases with increasing the content, but the flexural strength decreases dramatically. However, for CNTs and carbon fibers, the flexural strength initially increases and then decreases with increasing the amount of the conducting fillers. The amount of graphite corresponding to the peak of flexural strength was moved to lower content with increasing the amount of CNTs or carbon fiber. When hybrid conducting fillers such as fibrous and particulate fillers were used, the synergy effect in mechanical and electrical properties was observed.

Only the power is converted from AC to DC, in accordance with IEC 60587 based test method, in order to develop the LSR(Liquid Silicone Rubber) insulator material for HVDC, the experiment of Inclined Plate Tracking and Erosion Resistance was conducted. A contaminant (2.5 mS/cm: ammonium chloride) was applied at a rate of 0.3 ml/min and a voltage of ${\pm}3.5kV$, and was evaluated on the basis of 60 mA/2s. The samples were prepared by dispersing LSR/Nano silica_25wt% Composites in LSR. The erosion phenomena of surface discharge and tracking due to DC polarity and negative polarity were measured by image, leakage current maximum and thermal camera. The thermal imaging camera measured the surface temperature generated by the joule heat of the leakage current due to the drying discharge and the conductive current. After the measurement, the tracking and erosion mechanisms were evaluated for erosion weight, erosion depth and erosion length. Positive and negative polarity of LSR/Nano Silica_25wt% composite Tracking and erosion results show that positive polarity is more severe than negative polarity.
Flexible energy-storage devices (FESDs) have been studied and developed extensively over the last few years because of demands in various fields. Since electrochemical performance and mechanical flexibility must be taken into account together, different framework from composition of conventional energy-storage devices (ESDs) is required. Numerous types of electrodes have been proposed to implement the FESDs. Herein, we review the works related to the FESDs so far and focus on free-standing electrodes and, especially substrate-based ones. The way to utilize carbon woven fabric (CF) or carbon cloth (CC) as flexible substrates is quite simple and intuitive. However, it is meaningful in the point of that the framework exploiting CF or CC can be extended to other applications resulting in multifunctional composites. Therefore, summary, which is on utilization of carbon-based material and conductive substrate containing CF and CC for ESDs, turns out to be helpful for other researchers to have crude concepts to get into energy-storage multi-functional composite. Moreover, polymer electrolytes are briefly explored as well because safety is one of the most important issues in FESDs and the electrolyte part mainly includes difficult obstacles to overcome. Lastly, we suggest some points that need to be further improved and studied for FESDs.
The incorporation of nanoplatelets in composite and polymeric materials represents a recent and innovative approach, holding substantial promise for diverse property enhancements. This study focuses on the application of nanocomposites in the production of sports equipment, particularly soccer balls, aiming to bridge the gap between theoretical advancements and practical implications. Addressing the longstanding challenge of suboptimal interaction between carbon nanofillers and epoxy resin in epoxy composites, this research pioneers inventive solutions. Furthermore, the investigation extends into unexplored territory, examining the integration of glass fiber/epoxy composites with nanoparticles. The incorporation of nanomaterials, specifically expanded graphite and graphene, at a concentration of 25.0% by weight in both the epoxy structure and the composite with glass fibers demonstrates a marked increase in impact resistance compared to their nanomaterial-free counterparts. The research transcends laboratory experiments to explore the practical applications of nanocomposites in the design and production of sports equipment, with a particular emphasis on soccer balls. Analytical techniques such as infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy are employed to scrutinize the surface chemical structure and morphology of the epoxy nanocomposites. Additionally, an in-depth examination of the thermal, mechanical, viscoelastic, and conductive properties of these materials is conducted. Noteworthy findings include the efficacy of surface modification of carbon nanotubes in preventing accumulation and enhancing their distribution within the epoxy matrix. This optimization results in improved interfacial interactions, heightened thermal stability, superior mechanical properties, and enhanced electrical conductivity in the nanocomposite.

Epoxy resin (EP) is one of the most famous thermoset materials. In general, because EP has three-dimensional random network, it possesses thermal properties like a typical heat insulator. Recently, there has been increasing interest in controlling the network structure for making new functionality from EP. Indeed, the new modified EP represented as liquid crystalline epoxy (LCE) is spotlighted as an enabling technology for producing novel functionalities, which cannot be obtained from the conventional EPs, by replacing the random network structure to oriented one. In this paper, we review current progress in the field of LCEs and their application for the highly thermal conductive composite materials.
