  • Temperature during concrete curing can be effectively used to predict the early age strength of concrete However, various current methods have limits to provide the temperature data in real time due to harsh working environment including frequent cutting of wires. This paper presents the results of our investigation of an all-in-one Wireless sensor network (WSN) for the management of the curing temperature of in-placed concrete at early curing stages. Also, the network device for transmission can be easily separated from the probe sensor part and reused consistently. The field experiment entailed measuring the curing temperature of concrete using the WSN. After fresh concrete was poured into the formworks, the signals were measured at a 150 m radius from the field office. The signal was acquired for 28 days without any dispersion or interruption at the construction site; therefore, this study confirms the applicability of the proposed system to a construction site.

  • The object of study is analysis to joint crack behavior of cracked joint concrete pavement. In the new constructing concrete pavement, joint crack behavior was compared general joint depth D/4 with joint depth D/3 and D/5 that it's environmental effects changed temperature and humidity. After joint saw cutting joint section was predicted crack at joint depth D/5 test section from the result for monitoring development of crack. In the setting of data logger system of the joint section, it's data compared see with the naked eye. In the research, development of crack at the joint section should effect to joint saw timing latter than joint depth. This performance could be the minimum of deterioration to the early curing. In this research, At new constructing of joint concrete pavement of highway, the monitoring system be setting after finished paving and joint sawing. The system and see with the naked eye could be analysis to pavement behaviors from collecting data at the test section. This system could be monitoring shot term and long term. In this report, joint section of crack behavior analysis used to collected data during a month after paving and joint sawing.

  • The displacement monitoring data series reconstruction method was developed under equal water level effects based on displacement monitoring data of concrete dams. A dam displacement variation equation was set up under the action of temperature and aging factors by optimized analysis techniques and then the dam displacement hydraulic pressure components can be separated. Through the dynamic adjustment of temperature and aging effect factors, the aging component isolation method of dam displacement was developed. Utilizing the isolated dam displacement aging components, the dam stability model was established. Then, the dam stability criterion was put forward based on convergence and divergence of dam displacement aging components and catastrophe theory. The validity of the proposed method was finally verified combined with the case study.

  • Crack control remains a primary concern for mass concrete structures, where the majority of cracking is caused by temperature changes during the hydration process. One-time pouring is a useful construction method for mass concrete structures. The suitability of this method for constructingon of the Shanghai Tower's mass concrete foundation slab of Shanghai Tower is considered here by a numerical simulation method based on a 6- meter- thick slab. Some of the conclusions, which can be verified by monitoring results conducted during construction, are as follows. The temperature gradient is greater in the vertical direction than in the radial direction, therefore, the vertical temperature gradient should be carefully considered for the purpose of crack control. Moreover, owing to cooling conditions at the surfaces and the cement mortar content of the slab, the temperatures and temperature gradients with respect to time vary according to the position within the slab.

  • The spiral case concrete (SCC) used in the underground powerhouse of large hydropower stations is complex, difficult to pour, and has high requirements for temperature control and crack prevention. In this study, based on the closed-loop control theory of "multi-source sensing, real analysis, and intelligent control", a new intelligent cooling control system (ICCS) suitable for the SCC is developed and is further applied to the Wudongde large-scale underground powerhouse. By employing the site monitoring data, numerical simulation, and field investigation, the temperature control quality of the SCC is evaluated. The results show that the target temperature control curve can be accurately tracked, and the temperature control indicators such as the maximum temperature can meet the design requirements by adopting the ICCS. Moreover, the numerical results and site investigation indicate that a safety factor of the spiral case structure was sure, and no cracking was found in the concrete blocks, by which the effectiveness of the system for improving the quality of temperature control of the SCC is verified. Finally, an intelligent cooling control procedure suitable for the SCC is proposed, which can provide a reference for improving the design and construction level for similar projects.

  • This paper deals with monitoring and analysis of temperature measurement data in concrete pylon of long span cable bridges. During the construction of Geoga Bridge in Busan-Geoje Fixed Link Project, temperature sensors were installed in several sections of hollow box type concrete pylon and temperatures along the depth of the four sides of the section have been recorded along with ambient temperature. Effects of temperature distribution on the pylon are analysed using actual measured data and results are compared with the design guideline. It was found that the temperature load model for concrete girder can be applied to box type concrete pylon. Structural analysis of the pylon due to variation of temperature distribution during the construction is performed using 3D modelling and FE program and the maximum displacements of east-west and north-south side were calculated as 0.056m and 0.121m, respectively.

  • The mechanical and durability characteristics of concrete structures depend on the construction environment, material conditions, design conditions, and temperature and humidity environment after casting. However, wired communicati-on sensors which are mainly used in the field have many limitations in their usability and monitoring. In this study, all temperature and humidity data measured from embedded sensors are monitored via a wireless sensor network. Based on the measured temperature data, the predicted compressive strength of the concrete was compared with the actual compressive strength. As a result, The error between predicted strength and experimental strength has decreased over time.

  • As bare Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors are very fragile, bare FBG without encapsulation is not properly applied in practical infrastructures directly due to the harsh environment in practical engineering. Steel sleeve packaged FBG strain sensor is widely used in civil engineering. Since FBG senses both strain and temperature simultaneously, for accurate measurement of strain, temperature compensation for FBG strain sensors is indispensable. In this paper, based on the FBG's strain and temperature sensing principles, the temperature compensation techniques for steel sleeve packaged FBG sensors are brought forward. And the experiment of concrete early-age shrinkage monitoring by dual FBG sensors is carried out to test the feasibility of the temperature compensation technique.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the new eco water tank which is made of high density polyethylene and concrete with low temperature cement. The strength and failure mode of eco water tank was examined through tensile test with mixture of concrete and HDPE, temperature monitoring for various kind of concrete, admixture contains etc. The strength and failure mode were examined through tensile test with mixture of concrete and HDPE, temperature monitering for different kinds of concrete, strength test with different admixtures etc. It was found that shear connector between concrete and HDPE effects significantly contributed to the combined structures. ㄱ type shear connector results in tensile strength of up to 40% compared to that of V type shear connector. Based on test result, the new eco composite tank improved the stability and safety the old one and demonstrated the applicability and capability.

  • Current article proposes a cheap prototype of an embedded wireless sensor to monitor concrete structures. The prototype can measure temperature and relative humidity concurrently at a controlled through smartphone time interval. It implements a maturity method to estimate in-place concrete strength, which is considered as an alternative for traditional shock impulse method and compression tests used in Kazakhstan. The prototype was tested and adequately performed in the laboratory and field conditions. Tests aimed to study the effect of internal and ambient temperature and relative humidity on the concrete strength gain. According to test results revealed that all parameters influence the strength gain to some extent. For a better understanding of how strongly parameters influence the strength as well as each other, proposed a multicolored cross-correlation matrix technique. The technique is based on the determination coefficients. It is able to show the value of significance of correlation, its positivity or negativity, as well as the degree of inter-influence of parameters. The prototype testing also recognized the inconvenience of Bluetooth control due to weakness of signal and inability to access several prototypes simultaneously. Therefore, further improvement of the prototype presume to include the replacement of Bluetooth by Narrow Band IoT standard.
