  • Design criteria for rock load on tunnel concrete lining has not been established yet. Generally rock load on tunnel concrete lining is empirically estimated, which leads to a conservative design. Ordinary estimation method of rock load includes various problems. Estimating by numerical analysis is very complicated and has not been verified with field measurements. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a study on practical method of estimating rock load which is more accurate to the real rock load on tunnel concrete lining. This study, presents estimation method of rock load on tunnel concrete lining. Crown settlement of the tunnel construction site has been measured and it was been back analyzed to estimate the rock load. The rock load was estimated to be smaller compare to the ordinary estimation method.

  • There are many difficulties to the engineers in the assessment of tunnel safety. Consequently, objective assessment of concrete lining is hard even by the experts of tunnel assessment. Of several difficulties in the assessment of tunnel safety, in this study, tunnel concrete lining was focussed iud evaluated quantitatively and objectively using the Fuzzy theory which it generally considered to be appropriate for the assessment, control and judgment. T-FLAS based on fuzzy theory was developed in this study for the quantitative and objective assessment of the concrete lining in tunnels. Based on the application of T-FLAS on the evaluated field data, it was shown that the assessment system using fuzzy theory(T-FLAS) can be the effective and objective method for the assessment of concrete lining.

  • The problematic issue of cracking, water shedding in tunnel is recently coming out in the view of the structural stability. Hence, the assessment is required for the existing tunnels to achieve the structural soundness of tunnels, and their safety and maintenance. In this study, fracture behaviour and displacement of a tunnel concrete lining using steel fiber reinforcement concrete was investigated. The specimens were fabricated in single lining for a model of real road tunnel. As parameters, load condition, thickness of lining, whether or not rear cavity in crown, and a ratio of steel fiber in concrete were taken. From these factors, the load for crack and fracture, displacement, and the pattern of crack were looked into for the structural stability of a tunnel concrete lining.

  • The concrete lining inspection by inspector after traffic control poses various problems such as congestion caused by traffic control and social loss costs resulting from it, and risks of traffic accidents and safety accidents for inspectors et al. To solve the problems, the concrete lining inspection has been carried out using automatic inspection equipment and image analysis that can be objectively and quantitatively investigated in overseas. In this study, to solve the problems of concrete lining inspection by inspector and to review improvement plan for inspection, inspection was carried out using automatic inspection equipment for ◯◯ tunnel that precision safety diagnosis has been conducted in 2019. Analysis was carried out for both inspection results. Automatic inspection equipment investigated defects in concrete lining such as cracks more accurately than precision safety diagnosis.

  • Concrete lining in tunnel construction is used as secondary support for downward loads when primary support decays. The use of concrete lining varies greatly depending on the intentions of engineer and/or client. An engineer uses much smaller deformation modulus which determines the concrete lining thickness than of a pattern 3, when supporting patterns 4 and 5 are used in a weathered rock and soil. Considering these conditions, this study intends to suggest optimal construction procedures through a back analysis using a computer program(MIDAS-civil). Cases of Seoul Subway System line${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ zone${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ were selected to be examined for this study. The results show that it is possible to reduce the thickness of concrete lining. When results from this study were applied to Seoul Metropolitan subway construction projects, it is expected to bring economic benefits.

  • The tunnel structure is widely used for transportation in the mountain area. To reduce the duration of construction and thus the expense, a tunnel excavation is often performed simultaneously with a tunnel lining in in-situ. However, cracking of the tunnel lining may occur arising from the vibrating impact in the excavation process. The present study concerns the role of steel fiber and nylon fibers in tunnel lining concrete to reduce the vibrating impact. As a result it was found that both the nylon fiber and steel fiber improved the durability and physical properties of concrete.

  • As the topography of Korea consists of mountains at about seventy percent, there is necessarily an increasing demand for tunnel construction according to the expansion of the existing highway and construction of new highway. The concrete lining of tunnel portals has been designed with reinforced concrete to resist the cracking due to the difference in temperature in the inside and outside of tunnel. In the paper, the application of steel fiber reinforcement concrete was analyzed as the lining concrete at tunnel portals and through structure analysis and field model test the suitability of the steel fiber reinforcement concrete was assessed as the lining member of tunnel portal.

  • The purpose of maintenance monitoring is to offer the objective and continuous data in order to be lasting security affirmation and best fitted maintenance of tunnel structure. Though recently the examples of maintenance monitoring which Is applied to tunnel are rapidly increasing, long-term measured monitoring actual results and rationally analysis method researches are wholly lacking. In this study, it is analyzed that the relationship of stress and reinforcement stress of concrete lining, i.e., last support materials of tunnel through regression analysis based on the monitoring result of the subway tunnel, which was accomplished the monitoring for long period, passing the weathering. Also, through the analysis of the stress and the safety of concrete lining, it is estimated that the frequency of maintenance monitoring and the in-situ application of the criteria value of management.

  • Permanent sprayed concrete tunnel linings waterproofed with bonded membranes have been used at a number of important traffic projects over the last decade. Research has been carried out in several teams in order to increase the understanding of the function, properties and behavior of such linings under different loading and boundary conditions. The basic layout of this lining gives fundamental different system properties compared to the traditional lining systems. The main differences pertain to the groundwater exposure and the resulting hydraulic loading, the response of the concrete and membrane materials to this loading, as well as the geomechanically induced loading of the lining structure. The current understanding of the function and properties of such lining structures is presented in the paper based on review of recent research carried out in Norway, as well as field observations and monitoring carried over a several years. The influence of the water exposure on the final condition of the concrete and membrane materials has proven to be of vital importance for proper material testing and acceptance, assessments of the mechanical contribution of the bonded membrane, as well as assessments of the longterm durability of such linings. Obtaining realistic material parameters for the concrete and membrane materials subject to the boundary conditions posed by the groundwater exposure in an undrained structure is emphasized. Finally, some recent results from currently ongoing research on such linings, particularly the hydraulic response of the rock mass and the long term behavior of the concrete and membrane materials are presented.

  • Field measurements were carried out in this study to investigate the behavior of cut and cover tunnel such as the distribution and the magnitude of the earth pressure during back fill process of the ground material. Three kinds of measuring instruments, such as the earth pressure load cell, the concrete strain gauge and the reinforcing bar meter of embedded type in concrete structure were installed and measured. Earth pressure load cells, installed after construction of the tunnel lining, measure the outside forces acting on the tunnel lining with radial directions. Three load cells were installed at the crown, the right and the left shoulder of the tunnel, respectively. Three sets of reinforcing bar meter were installed in the double reinforcements of the tunnel lining and their locations were the same with the position of the earth pressure load cells. Concrete strain gauge was installed only one site of the upper compressive part at the tunnel crown. Based on the measuring results in the field, the deformation and the earth pressure acting on the tunnel lining were investigated with the back fill process of the ground material. Considerations on the validity of the measuring results were paid. For the analysis of measurements, after dividing back fill process into three steps, various factors which affect on the behavior of tunnel lining were investigated at each step.
