  • In this paper we present a cognitive developmental analysis of the arithmetic mean concept. This analysis leads us to a hierarchical classification at different levels of understanding of the responses of 227 students to a questionnaire which combines open-ended and multiple-choice questions. The SOLO theoretical framework is used for this analysis and we find five levels of students' responses. These responses confirm different types of difficulties encountered by students regarding their conceptualization of the arithmetic mean. Also we have observed that there are no significant differences between secondary school and university students' responses.

  • The shift to more practical and simpler lifestyle in the modern society is well reflected in people's preference when it comes to living room space and sofa designs. These elements are intentionally crafted to satisfy the customers' personal needs and wants, sense of comfort, aesthetic preference, and function. This study includes an analysis on the development and conceptualization of sofa designs, exterior materials, and colors of the furniture released by Hanssem, Livart, Borneo, Emons, and Jangin Furniture during the first half of 2007. Modern and practical sofas should be essentially designed according to the customers' demand and current trend. Such design principle is necessary to achieve and maintain competitiveness in the globalizing society.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose useful suggestions by analyzing the impact of SNS quality and the pressure which comes from SNS usage objectives on SNS discontinuance intention. Methods: We developed a SNS user's discontinuance intention model in terms of SNS quality and pressure of SNS usage. Survey data of SNS users was analyzed using multi-regression analysis for testing hypotheses. Results: We found that information quality plays an important role in lowering the SNS discontinuance intention. In addition, it was founded that pressure of social networking and information processing are positively related with the SNS discontinuance intention. Conclusion: We expect that this research can provide theoretical and practical implications. As for theoretical, this study can suggest the insight on conceptualization of SNS fatigue in the further study. Regarding practical implication, service providers can make their service strategies based on understanding our analysis.

  • This work presents the simplified mechanism that the microstrip line generates the radiated emission which is one of the measures on the EMI levels. The electric currents on the metallization of the structure are input to the radiation integrals with the Green's functions being derived to consider the stratification of the microstrip. The simulated results suggest the method of the conceptualization on the RE characteristics of the signal trace in the PCB structure.

  • We focus on the investigations of the effect of social networks on the diffusion of innovations, in order to successfully bring innovations into markets. We begin with consideration of social system from Rogers(1995)' perspective, which includes the fifty-year sequential tradition of diffusion studies, and expand the conceptualization into a framework for thinking about the effect of social networks on the diffusion of innovations. We draw upon basic ideas from the research traditions of social network theory in sociology, and social identity theory in social psychology. Finally, we offer propositions for the future empirical researches. A better understanding of social networks can complement research on the diffusion of innovations and help in the development of a universal model of consumer response to innovations.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze nursing students' learning styles and relationship of learning style to participation and academic achievement. Method: The study participants were nursing students in C college learning through problem based learning (PBL). Data were collected using a questionnaire which included Kolb's learning styles. Performance evaluation and paper examination were used to evaluate academic achievement. Results: Most of the students had converger type learning style. Student with a tendency to abstract conceptualization, such as converger type and assimilator type, preferred discussion and presentation. The students with converger type learning style participated and achieved better than students with diverger style. Conclusion: The results indicate that learning style was related to participation and academic achievement. Therefore in order to use PBL effectively, facilitators should consider students' learning styles.

  • Recently, many researchers have been interested in attachment processes in adolescence. However, the nature of attachment formation and transfer during this developmental period were not answered yet. This study examine the mechanism of attachment transfer from parents to friends, and the effects of childhood attachment styles on the level of attachment transfer and loneliness in adolescence. The resets show the majority of participants(70%) used their parents as primary attachment figures but were in the process of transferring attachment-related functions from parents to peers. There were the significant effects of attachment style, the level of transfer or state and trait loneliness in adolescence. This study provide the implications and limitation for conceptualization and measurement of adolescent attachment formation and loneliness.

The purpose of this research is to examine the influence of the product-brand web site on the formation of attitude toward the product brand. Subjects of this study are users of two web sites of leading sanitary product brands. The result shows that not only emotion, playfulness and convenience perceived from the web site but also existing attitude toward the brand influence the attitude toward the web site. Further, the attitude toward the web site in turn affects attitude toward the image of the brand. The importance of this study is in its conceptualization and empirical verification of the relationship between the product-brand web site and the reputation of a brand.

  • Export Intermediaries engage in an exporter's side transaction with an importer's side, both of which are customers of these intermediaries. Therefore, dyadic perspectives implied in conventional theories of customer orientation should be revised to apply to a triadic relationship systemin indirect export settings. The present manuscript proposed that customer orientation of export intermediaries consists of total customer orientation toward both the exporter and importer sides and customer orientation asymmetry, which is customer orientation in favor of the exporter relative to the importer side, and examines the antecedents and outcomes of these orientations. It is posited that each side attention increases total customer orientation and customer orientation asymmetry toward exporters or importers. These positive effects would be weaker when importers and exporters interact directly versus indirectly and would be stronger when the offering prices vary versus remain stable during negotiations. Lastly, total customer orientation would increase export intermediaries' performance by itself and in interaction with customer attention. Nonetheless, orientation asymmetry would increase their outcomes in line with customer attention.

  • We studied the meaning of the term avant-garde in relation to clothing of the 1980s and 1990s by examining the media's perceptions of Martin Margiela, a Belgian deconstructionist designer who was often labeled as avant-garde by journalists, scholars, and fashion critics in the late 20th century. A five-step content analysis method described by Paoletti (1982) was used to conduct the research. Newspaper and magazine articles in the 1980s and 1990s were analyzed using a set of existing avant-garde characteristics developed by Crane (1987) to determine if those journalists' perceptions matched the characteristics described by Crane. Results indicated that the journalists' critiques and descriptions matched the avant-garde characteristics described by Crane (1987). Including a subjective element to the conceptualization of the term explains how journalists described Margiela's designs despite Japanese designers' use of similar techniques before him. We (re) conceptualize the term's latter 20th century meaning and shifting dialogue to include a subjective element.
