  • The process of clothing production creates waste and scrap, which creates environmental, economic, and ethical issues. With this in mind the concept of ethical and sustainable fashion is discussed on many platforms as an important and timely topic. Many solutions have been presented on this subject. For the solution of this problem which has been increasing in the fashion and textile industry, the usage of sustainable materials and production methods is needed. There in a 'recyclable material cycle' should be adapted, instead of a 'traditional material cycle'. New methods and techniques should be developed with multi-disciplinary design approaches to produce creative and high value-added products in the name of fashion and sustainability. This is seen as one of the more effective solutions. This study aims to show that production scraps can be transformed into timely clothing designs with samples. The fabric scraps from different brands were turned into unique clothing designs with up to date trends by designer. In the practices completed while following the design process, collage and patchwork techniques were applied depending on the characteristics of the scrap fabric, artistic figures were hand-stitched onto the design. With this study, the scraps that get thrown into dumping grounds and damage the ecosystem can turn into ethical and economic benefits for the manufacturer. How to choose new high value-added products and create an awareness of social responsibility is also shown with examples in this study.

  • Growth in the sharing economy and sustainability have grown has influenced collaborative consumption that values usage rather than ownership. Collaborative fashion consumption platforms have become a rapidly growing business and need to be investigated. A theoretical review and case study were conducted to analyze the typology of collaborative fashion consumption consisting of renters, lenders, and platforms. Applying the nascent literature of partial organization, this paper outlines a typology, user-driven types in which lenders take responsibility to manage rental products and platform-driven types in which platforms are in charge. Four representative cases such as Hurr Collective, Villageluxe, Wardrobe, and Closetshare were selected in order to derive the roles of collaborative fashion consumption platforms. First, it is critical to balance between renters and lenders in collaborative fashion consumption platforms. Second, it is imperative to establish trust about the platform and formulate mutually understandable guidelines. Third, the concept of lenders needs to be broadened to individuals as well as fashion brand companies. Fourth, it is necessary to improve interaction between renters and lenders in platform-driven types. This study represents one careful step to understand collaborative consumption platforms that also provides managerial and academic implications.

  • The first part of the study involved calculating emission factors from electricity production. The second part of the study aimed to analyze perceptions of the concept of carbon dioxide utilization and was conducted through a questionnaire survey with participants from Almaty and Astana. The results showed that there were no significant improvements in the decrease of carbon dioxide emissions between 2017 and 2020. Almost no change occurred in the rate of carbon dioxide emission throughout the course of the four years. According to the results of the survey, a number of respondents had reservations about the feasibility of using carbon dioxide utilization as a solution to tackle climate change. They felt that this technology would only offer a temporary solution to carbon emissions, without addressing the underlying causes of the problem. Despite these concerns, the participants acknowledged that carbon dioxide utilization had certain advantages in promoting sustainability.

  • Sustainability has been a big issue over the whole global industry lately and is an important fashion trend that reflects the modern phase of the time. The concept of sustainable fashion includes physical fashion products made from eco-friendly or recycle materials as well as ethical value such as corporate social responsibility for environment, labor or working condition. Fashion companies of advanced countries who are aware of the geo-environmental and ethical issues found that generating profits by setting trends and pursuing external beauty can no longer be the ultimate goal of fashion companies, and started to recognize the importance of sustainable fashion as a future-oriented trend. Not only fashion industry but also governments of advanced countries have been playing a leading role to educate the people regarding the importance of sustainable fashion and making large investments to foster industry specialists in educational institution. The aim of this study is to propose sustainable fashion design education program that fits the domestic university curriculum and government-leading education program in order to set the foundation for sustainable fashion industry. Thus, this study investigates successful cases of foreign government-led sustainable fashion education that can be introduced to improve domestic sustainable fashion education. The empirical study of the research is developing 12-15 week university level education program to foster specialists in sustainable fashion. The survey carried out by the students who participated in the program shows the change of perception on sustainable fashion. Developed university level program can be spread to municipal corporation, school of continuing education, and etc. in order to derive participation and problem perception of the citizens on sustainability. Developing systemized sustainable fashion design education program would be the first step of sustainable fashion by educating students who will take the leading role in the future fashion industry. Moreover, it can strongly influence future customer education as well as a special education inducing interest on sustainability in everyday life. A follow-up study is expected to serve as a foundation for sustainable fashion to take root successfully in the fashion industry.

  • Following the UN Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992, a number of companies began to incorporate the concept of Environmental Sustainability into their business activities. Soon after this, interest in business sustainability within the academic world began to grow and a number of universities in Europe and North America decided to develop environmental management education-related materials and curricula under the support from their respective govemments and private companies. Starting in 1996, a wide-range of environmental management education programs also began to appear in several Korean universities. However, in contrast with the gradual evolution of environmental management education into a single study field internationally, environmental management education in Korea has not become fully specialized, nor has it developed in a systematic manner. In order to enhance and facilitate domestic environmental management education in Korea, universities must put more effort into differentiating environmental management education courses from regular environmental courses through the development of curricula related to business management. The business world has an immense impact on the environment and international environmental regulations are steadily becoming stronger. In this light, environmental education programs need to extend their sphere of study not only to the spread of knowledge and sensitivity towards the environment among members of the general public, but also train businessmen to have an understanding of how their actions impact the environment.
