  • The reliability of the solder joint is affected by type and extent of the interfacial reaction between solder and substrates. Therefore, understanding of intermetallic compounds produced by soldering in electronic packaging is essential. In-based alloys have been favored bonding devices that demand low soldering temperatures. For photonic and fiber optics packaging, m-based solders have become increasingly attractive as a soldering material candidate due to its ductility. In the present work, the interfacial reactions between indium solder and bare Cu Substrate are investigated. For the identification of intermetallic compounds, both Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) and X-Ray Diffraction(XRD) were employed. Experimental results showed that the intermetallic compounds, such as Cu$_{11}$In$_{9}$ was observed for bare Cu substrate. Additionally, the growth rate of these intermetallic compounds was increased with the reaction temperature and time. We found that the growth of the intermetallic compound follows the parabolic law, which indicates that the growth is diffusion-controlled.d.

  • The demand for truck bus radial (TBR) tires with enhanced fuel efficiency and wear resistance have grown in recent years. In addition, as the issue of particulate matter and air pollution increases, efforts are being made to reduce the generation of particulate matter. In this study, the properties of epoxidized natural rubber (ENR) containing a silica-friendly functional group were evaluated by considering it as a base rubber and varying the silica ratio in this binary filler system. The results showed that the wear resistance of the NR/BR blend compound decreased as the silica ratio increased. In contrast, the ENR/BR blend compound exhibited an increase in wear resistance as the silica ratio was increased. In particular, the ENR-50/BR blend compound showed the best wear resistance due to the presence of several epoxide groups. Furthermore, we observed that for tan 𝛿 at 60℃, higher epoxide content resulted in the higher Tg of the rubber, indicating a higher tan 𝛿 at 60℃. On the other hand, it was confirmed that increasing the silica ratio decreased the value of tan 𝛿 at 60℃ in all compounds. In addition, we measured the amount of wear particulate matters generated from the compound wear. These measurements confirmed that in the binary filler system, regardless of the filler type, the quantity of the generated wear particulate matters as the filler-rubber interaction increased. In conclusion, the silica filled ENR/BR blend compound exhibited the lowest generation of wear particulate matters.

  • The wearplate with Cr-C has been used in condition of severe abrasion. Recently, the demand of wearplate made by hardfacing with Cr-C has increased in the world, but it is lack of supply and expensive due to low productivity. CMAW (Compound Metal Arc Welding) is very useful process of several welding methods to make wearplate. In this paper, twin torch CMAW to use twin torch at the same time was developed to improve productivity and to ensure quality of wear plate. When the distance between two touches was smaller than 30mm, arc blow was occurred. However when the distance was larger than 35mm, there was no arc blow any more. If the oscillation path of each torch was overlapped together, the melt through at the overlapped zone was occurred due to concentrated heat input in substrate. On the other hand, the turning point of each torch was open more than 5mm, separated bead was generated. Therefore twin torch CMAW which has adequate conditions was able to make wearplate having flatter surface at the bead connection than single torch.

  • This experimental study on high strength lightweight concrete using compound materials has been performed. In which, expanded clay was used as coarse aggregate, and silica fume and fly ash as admixtures varying by 0, 10% and 0, 5, 10, 15, 20% of cement amount respectively were added. Thus, the properties of fresh and hardened concrete have been investigated. The results of this study can be summarized as follows ; Each slump loss of mixtures replaced fly ash has been decreased by increasing replacement rate. The compressive strength have shown 465, 428 and $401kgf/cm^2$ at 30, 40 and 50% of W/B in 28days respectively, all of which have satisfied the criterion $270kgf/cm^2$ of high strength lightweight concrete. The unit volume weight of hardened concrete has been decreased by increasing replacement rate of silica fume and fly ash, values of which have satisfied the criterion $2000kgf/cm^3$of light weight concrete.

  • Inorganic ion exchange compounds (IECs) including hydrotalcites and bentonite clays are a well known classes of layered mixed metal hydroxides or silicates that demonstrate ion exchange properties. These compounds have a range of applications from water purification to catalyst supports. The use of synthetic versions of these compounds as environmentally friendly additives to paints for storage and release of inhibitors is a new and emerging application. In this paper, the general concept of storage and release of inhibiting ions from IEC-based particulate pigments added to organic coatings is presented. The unique aspects of the IEC structure and the ion exchange phenomenon that form the basis of the storage and release characteristic are illustrated in two examples comprising an anion exchanging hydrotalcite compound and a cation exchanging bentonite compound. Examples of the levels of corrosion protection imparted by use of these types of pigments in organic coatings applied to aluminum alloy substrates is shown. How corrosion inhibition translates to corrosion protection during accelerated exposure testing by organic coatings containing these compounds is also presented.

  • The Ti-aluminide intermetallic compound was formed from high purity elemental Ti and Al foils by self-propagating, high-temperature synthesis(SHS) in hot press. formation of $TiAl_3$ at the interface between Ti and Al foils was controlled by temperature, pressure, heating rate, and so on. According to the thermal analysis, it is known in this study that the heating rate is the most important factor to form the intermetallic compound by this SHS reaction. The V layer addition between Al and Ti foils increased SHS reaction temperatures. The fully dense, well-boned inter-metallic composite($TiA1/Ti_3$Al) sheets of 700 m thickness were formed by heat treatment at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 10 hours after the SHS reaction of alternatively layered 10 Ti and 9 Al foils with the V coating layer. The phases and microstructures of intermetallic composite sheets were confirmed by EPMA and XRD.

  • A new Fe-based amorphous compound powder was prepared from Fe-Si-B amorphous powder by crushing amorphous ribbons as the first magnetic component and Fe-Cr-Mo metallic glassy powder by water atomization as the second magnetic component. Subsequently by adding organic and inorganic binders to the compound powder and cold pressing, the new Fe-based amorphous compound powder cores were fabricated. This new Fe-based amorphous compound powder cores combine the superior DC-Bias properties and the excellent core loss. The core loss of 500 kW/$m^3$ at $B_m$ = 0.1T and f = 100 kHz was obtained When the mass ratio of FeSiB/FeCrMo equals 3:2, and meanwhile the DC-bias properties of the new Fe-based amorphous compound powder cores just decreased by 10% compared with that of the FeSiB powder cores. In addition, with the increasing of the content of the FeCrMo metallic glassy powder, the core loss tends to decrease.

  • The anodic oxidation behavior of Si-containing aluminum alloy for diecasting was investigated. Especially, the property changes during anodization both on aluminum 1050 and 9 weight percentage silicon containing aluminum (Al-9Si) alloys were analyzed by the static current test. In order to fabricate a uniform anodic oxidation film by effect of Al-Si compound, nitric acid containing hydrofluoric acid had been used as a desmutter for aluminum alloy after alkaline etching. It was found that the level of voltage of Al-9Si alloy during the static current test was almost as double as higher than aluminum 1050 through anodization. By adding hydrofluoric acid in the nitric acid electrolyte, the silicon compound on the surface was removed, and the optimum amount of added hydrofluoric acid could be derived. It was also observed that the size of silicon compound formed on the surface could be refined by heat treatment at $500^{\circ}C$ and followed water quenching.

  • TiAl intermetallic compound was candidated for the application to the high temperature materials such as a gas turbine exhaust valve in the automobile. However, this material dose not have ductility allowing to machinability to product. To improve the ductility, many researches conduct alloy design and heat treatment methods. We observed that the microstructure of TiAl varied with Ni, Mn elements as well as a heat treatment condition. In the case of Ni element addition, the TiAlNi intermetallic compound was precipitated at the grain boundary. When the heat treatment temperature increased from $1000^{\circ}C$ to $1300^{\circ}C$, the TiAlNi intermetallic compound was uniformly dispersed on the matrix. In the case of Mn element addition, the mixed duplex structure of ${\gamma}$-TiAl and lamellar(TiAl/$Ti_3Al$) was obtained with $1250^{\circ}C$ and $1300^{\circ}C$ heat treatment for 1 hour. When the heat treatment temperature increased from $1250^{\circ}C$ to $1300^{\circ}C$, the lamellar domain of the duplex structure was transformed near-lamellar structure.

  • As the electrodes of secondary battery are made with sulfur compounds, excellent electrode system of environmental non-toxicity, high specific energy density and low material cost can be obtained. In this study, the $FeS_2$ fine compound powders for active material in the battery were synthesized by mechanical alloying. Fine Fe-53.5 wt.%S powders of 450 nm of mean size were fabricated by mechanical alloying for 60 hours at the horizontal attritor. As the mechanical alloying time increases, particle size of Fe-53.5 wt.%S was decreased and steady state of Fe-53.5 wt.%S compound powders was obtained at 30 hours. Fe-53.5 wt.%S cathode shows the excellent discharge capacity (1011 mAh/g).
