The stiffness reduction of cross-ply composite laminates featuring a transverse cracking and delamination within the mid-layer is predicted through utilization of a modified shear-lag model, incorporating a stress perturbation function. Good agreement is obtained by comparing the prediction models and experimental data. The material characteristics of the composite are affected by fluctuations in temperature and transient moisture concentration distribution in desorption case, based on a micro-mechanical model of laminates. The transient and non-uniform moisture concentration distribution induces a stiffness reduction. The obtained results demonstrate the stiffness degradation dependence on factors such as cracks density, thickness ratio and environmental conditions. The present study underscores the significance of comprehending the degradation of material properties in the failure progression of laminates, particularly in instances of extensive delamination growth.
In the present study, according to the important of porosity in low specific weight in comparison of high stiffness of carbon nanotubes reinforced composite, buckling and free vibration analysis of sandwich composite beam in two configurations, of laminates using differential quadrature method (DQM) is studied. Also, the effects of porosity coefficient and three types of porosity distribution on critical buckling load and natural frequency are discussed. It is shown the buckling loads and natural frequencies of laminate 1 are significantly larger than the results of laminate 2. When configuration 2 (the core is made of FRC) and laminate 1 ([0/90/0/45/90]s) are used, the first natural frequency rises noticeably. It is also demonstrated that the influence of the core height in the case of lower carbon volume fractions is negligible. Even though, when volume fraction of fiber increases, the critical buckling load enhances smoothly. It should be noticed the amount of decline has inverse relationship with the beam aspect ratio. Investigating three porosity patterns, beam with the distribution of porosity Type 2 has the maximum critical buckling load and first natural frequency. Among three elastic foundations (constant, linear and parabolic), buckling load and natural frequency in linear variation has the least amount. For all kind of elastic foundations, when the porosity coefficient increases, critical buckling load and natural frequency decline significantly.
Based on a four-variable shear deformation shell theory, the free vibration analysis of functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced composite (FGGPRC) doubly-curved shallow shells with different boundary conditions is investigated in this work. The doubly-curved shells are composed of multi nanocomposite layers that are reinforced with graphene platelets. The graphene platelets are uniformly distributed in each individual layer. While, the volume faction of the graphene is graded from layer to other in accordance with a novel distribution law. Based on the suggested distribution law, four types of FGGPRC doubly-curved shells are studied. The present shells are assumed to be rested on elastic foundations. The material properties of each layer are calculated using a micromechanical model. Four equations of motion are deduced utilizing Hamilton's principle and then converted to an eigenvalue problem employing an analytical method. The obtained results are checked by introducing some comparison examples. A detailed parametric investigation is performed to illustrate the influences of the distribution type of volume fraction, shell curvatures, elastic foundation stiffness and boundary conditions on the vibration of FGGPRC doubly-curved shells.
This paper presents the experimental results of composite basement wall in which H-pile and reinforced concrete wall are combined using shear connector Twelve specimens are tested to evaluate the shear capacity of the wall. Main variables in the test are composite ratio, distribution of shear connector, thickness of wall, shear-span ratio, and shear reinforcement. Test results indicate that the shear capacity of test specimens varies with the foregoing variables except the composite ratio. The results are compared with strengths predicted using the equations of ACI 318-99, Zsutty, and Bazant. Based on this investigation, a method for predicting the shear strength of composite basement walls is proposed.
If the seabed is exposed to high waves for a long period, the pore water pressure may be excessive, making the seabed subject to liquefaction. As the water pressure change due to wave action is transmitted to the pore water pressure of the seabed, a phase difference will occur because of the fluid resistance from water permeability. Thus, the effective stress of the seabed will be decreased. If a composite breakwater or other structure with large wave reflection is installed over the seabed, a partial standing wave field is formed, and thus larger wave loading is directly transmitted to the seabed, which considerably influences its stability. To analyze the 3-D dynamic response characteristics of the seabed around a composite breakwater, this study performed a numerical simulation by applying LES-WASS-3D to directly analyze the wave-structure-soil interaction. First, the waveform around the composite breakwater and the pore water pressure in the seabed and rubble mound were compared and verified using the results of existing experiments. In addition, the characteristics of the wave field were analyzed around the composite breakwater, where there was an opening under different incident wave conditions. To analyze the effect of the changed wave field on the 3-D dynamic response of the seabed, the correlation between the wave height distribution and pore water pressure distribution of the seabed was investigated. Finally, the numerical results for the perpendicular phase difference of the pore water pressure were aggregated to understand the characteristics of the 3-D dynamic response of the seabed around the composite breakwater in relation to the water-structure-soil interaction.

Curved steel-concrete composite box girder has been widely adopted in urban overpasses and ramp bridges. In order to investigate its mechanical behavior under complicated and combined bending, shear and torsion load, two large-curvature composite box girders with interior angles of 25° and 45° were tested under static hogging moment. Based on the strain and deflection measurement on critical cross-sections during the static loading test, the failure mode, cracking behavior, load-displacement relationship, and strain distribution in the steel plate and rebar were investigated in detail. The test result showed the large-curvature composite box girders exhibited notable shear lag in the concrete slab and steel girder. Also, the constraint torsion and distortion effect caused the stress measured at the inner side of the composite beam to be notably higher than that of the outer side. The strain distribution in the steel web was approximately linear; therefore, the assumption that the plane section remains plane was approximately validated based on strain measurement at steel web. Furthermore, the full-process non-linear elaborate finite element (FE) models of the two specimens were developed based on commercial FE software MSC.MARC. The modeling scheme and constitutive model were illustrated in detail. Based on the comparison between the FE model and test results, the FE model effectively simulated the failure mode, the load-displacement curve, and the strain development of longitudinal rebar and steel girder with sufficient accuracy. The comparison between the FE model and the test result validated the accuracy of the developed FE model.
In this study, dynamics responses of advanced composite plates resting variable elastic foundations via a quasi-3D theory are developed using an analytical approach. This higher shear deformation theory (HSDT) is included the shear deformation theory and effect stretching that has five unknowns, which is even inferior to normal deformation theories found literature and other theories. The quasi-three-dimensional (quasi-3D) theory accounts for a parabolic distribution of the transverse shear deformation and satisfies the zero traction boundary conditions on the surfaces of the advanced composite plate without needing shear correction factors. The plates assumed to be rest on two-parameter elastic foundations, the Winkler parameter is supposed to be constant but the Pasternak parameter varies along the long side of the plate with three distributions (linear, parabolic and sinusoidal). The material properties of the advanced composite plates gradually vary through the thickness according to two distribution models (power law and Mori-Tanaka). Governing differential equations and associated boundary conditions for dynamics responses of the advanced composite plates are derived using the Hamilton principle and are solved by using an analytical solution of Navier's technique. The present results and validations of our modal with literature are presented that permitted to demonstrate the accuracy of the present quasi-3D theory to predict the effect of variables elastic foundation on dynamics responses of advanced composite plates.
In this paper, a two-layer partial interaction composite beams model considering the higher order shear deformation of sub-elements is built. Then, the governing differential equations and boundary conditions for static analysis of linear elastic higher order composite beams are formulated by means of principle of minimum potential energy. Subsequently, analytical solutions for cantilever composite beams subjected to uniform load are presented by Laplace transform technique. As a comparison, FEM for this problem is also developed, and the results of the proposed FE program are in good agreement with the analytical ones which demonstrates the reliability of the presented exact and finite element methods. Finally, parametric studies are performed to investigate the influences of parameters including rigidity of shear connectors, ratio of shear modulus and slenderness ratio, on deflections of cantilever composite beams, internal forces and stresses. It is revealed that the interfacial slip has a major effect on the deflection, the distribution of internal forces and the stresses.

Damage induced by low-velocity impact on the curved composite laminates was experimentally evaluated for CFRP cylindrical shells with the radius of curvatures of 50, 150, 300, and 500 mm. The result was then compared with that of flat laminates. The radius of curvatures and the effective shell stiffness appeared to considerably affect the dynamic impact response of curved shells. Under the same impact energy level, the maximum contact force increased with the decreasing radius of curvatures, with reaching 1.5 times that for plates at the radius of curvature of 50 mm. Since the maximum contact force is directly related to the impact damage, curved laminates can be more susceptible to delamination and less resistant to the low-velocity impact damage. The distribution of delamination along the thickness direction of curved laminates are also different from that of flat plates. Delamination was distributed rather even]y at each interface along the thickness direction of curved laminates. This implies that the effect of curvatures has to be considered for the design of a curved composite laminate.

I-beam composite hollow slabs were proposed for long-span slabs and long-span bridges due to their higher stiffness and strength. However, the behavior of the composite slab is quite complicate and allowable stress design method is used for the design of the slab. In this paper, static tests on the composite hollow slabs were performed and their inelastic behavior was investigated. Ultimate strength of the composite slabs were evaluated and the contribution of each I-beam to the flexural strength of the slab was also estimated using the measured strain distribution. From the results of these experiments, I-beam composite hollow slabs can be designed by strength design method.
