  • We are concerned in the estimation of lifetime distribution of a component having a few observed failure data and we demonstrate that we can use the maximum likelihood estimation utilizing the censored data when the number of components in use is quite large. Weibull distribution is assumed fur the lifetime and a simple estimation procedure is introduced. We also propose the method of determining the optimal number of spares required for a specified period without introducing cost functions. The proposed methods are applied to the photon stop and the water-cooled flange which are major components in Pohang Light Source.

  • Korean Tilting trains have been tested on conventional lines since the beginning of 2007 for evaluating its reliability. We achieved some major performance tests which are the maximum operation speed, 180km/h test and the maximum curves increasing speed, over 30 percentage comparing with non-tilling operation train. In order to analysis reliability data of tilting train, we have used the special system engineering frame with interfacing between component suppliers effectively. And also we have developed the data aquisition system which consists of monitor, sensors and depot computer etc. As a results of calculation, until now we realized that the reliability are getting more increasing than starting point of running field test.

  • The points of failure of a decomposition process are defined to be the union of the points of failure from two component point processes for software reliability systems. Because sampling from the likelihood function of the decomposition model is difficulty, Gibbs Sampler can be applied in a straightforward manner. A Markov Chain Monte Carlo method with data augmentation is developed to compute the features of the posterior distribution. For model determination, we explored the prequential conditional predictive ordinate criterion that selects the best model with the largest posterior likelihood among models using all possible subsets of the component intensity functions. A numerical example with a simulated data set is given.

  • A BIS(Bus Information System) collects, processes and analyzes information such as real-time location and operation status during bus operation. And It is a system that provides valid information to citizens, drivers, traffic centers and bus companies. Transport information system sent by an each bus is collected through GPS(Global Positioning System), DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communications), Beacon and passed to transport information center. BIS data by collected is handled and analyzed. Next, it is transmitted to citizen, drivers and bus companies in real time. The result of 5 times simulation satisfied the test criteria(error range ${\pm}10m$) with an average error range of 3.306m, and the reliability is increased. In this paper, we propose a improved location transfer component that can provide users to quicker and more accurate location information than existing BIS using GPS of smart phone. It can be seen that reliability is improved by securing improved bus position data.

  • There are many uncertain parameters associated with vibration components. Their physical parameters, the machining quality of vibration components, and the applied load acting on them are all uncertain. As a result, the natural frequency and the fatigue limits are also uncertain variables. In this paper, we express these parameters of vibration components and the frequency zone of resonance through interval models; this way, the robust reliability of the vibration components is defined. The robust reliability model measures and assesses the reliability of vibration components. The robust reliability of a cantilever beam is evaluated as an example. The results show that this method is reasonable for robust reliability analysis of vibration components because it does not require a large amount of failure data, it avoids the evaluation of the probability density function, and the computation is simple.

  • Purpose: This study developed a method of determining priorities for evaluating and revising defense standards. Methods: The proposed data integration and refinement methods are used to obtain component reliability information and to determine the frequency of component citation based on Pareto analysis. Based on the reliability information and the frequency of cited components, the target components for quality improvement can be determined and improved using various methods, such as engineering changes, special meetings, additional training, and revising the maintenance manual. Results: Based on the proposed process, we identified components that need to be improved in order to enhance the quality and reliability. Conclusion: Our process will improve the quality and reliability of weapon systems. The proposed process can be adopted for various weapon systems to enhance their quality and reliability, and to reduce military spending.

  • Objectives: The Short Form 36 (SF-36) questionnaire is increasingly being used to measure health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in Indonesia. However, evidence that it is valid for use in Indonesian adults is lacking. This study assessed the validity and reliability of the SF-36 in Indonesian middle-aged and older adults. Methods: Adults aged 46-81 years (n=206) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia completed the SF-36, another measure of HRQoL (the EuroQoL visual analogue scale [EQ-VAS]), and measures assessing their demographic characteristics. Fifty-four percent (n=121) completed the SF-36 measure again 1 week later. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to confirm the factor structure of the SF-36. Internal consistency reliability was estimated using Cronbach's alpha, and test-retest reliability was assessed using intraclass correlations. Convergent and discriminant validity were assessed by computing correlations among SF-36 subscales, between subscales and the 2 component scores, and between component scores and EQ-VAS scores. Results: Most scaling assumptions were met. The hypothetical factor structure fit the data poorly (root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA]=0.108) and modification was required for a good fit (RMSEA=0.060). Scores on all subscales demonstrated acceptable internal consistency (α>0.70) and test-retest reliability (r>0.70). Divergent validity was supported by weak to moderate interscale correlations (r=0.19 to 0.64). As expected, the 2 summary scores were moderately to strongly correlated with the EQ-VAS (r>0.60). Conclusions: The findings adequately support the use of SF-36 in Indonesian middle-aged and older adults, although the optimal algorithm for computing component scores in Indonesia warrants further investigation.
