  • In this work, a hardware based cryptographic module for the cyber security of nuclear power plant is developed using a system engineering approach. Nuclear power plants are isolated from the Internet, but as shown in the case of Iran, Man-in-the-middle attacks (MITM) could be a threat to the safety of the nuclear facilities. This FPGA-based module does not have an operating system and it provides protection as a firewall and mitigates the cyber threats. The encryption equipment consists of an encryption module, a decryption module, and interfaces for communication between modules and systems. The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)-128, which is formally approved as top level by U.S. National Security Agency for cryptographic algorithms, is adopted. The development of the cyber security module is implemented in two main phases: reverse engineering and re-engineering. In the reverse engineering phase, the cyber security plan and system requirements are analyzed, and the AES algorithm is decomposed into functional units. In the re-engineering phase, we model the logical architecture using Vitech CORE9 software and simulate it with the Enhanced Functional Flow Block Diagram (EFFBD), which confirms the performance improvements of the hardware-based cryptographic module as compared to software based cryptography. Following this, the Hardware description language (HDL) code is developed and tested to verify the integrity of the code. Then, the developed code is implemented on the FPGA and connected to the personal computer through Recommended Standard (RS)-232 communication to perform validation of the developed component. For the future work, the developed FPGA based encryption equipment will be verified and validated in its expected operating environment by connecting it to the Advanced power reactor (APR)-1400 simulator.

  • With the recent development of small computing devices, IoT sensor network can be widely deployed and is now readily available with sensing, calculation and communi-cation functions at low cost. Sensor data management is a major component of the Internet of Things environment. The huge volume of data produced and transmitted from sensing devices can provide a lot of useful information but is often considered the next big data for businesses. New column-wise compression technology is mounted to the large data server because of its superior space efficiency. Since sensor nodes have narrow bandwidth and fault-prone wireless channels, sensor-based storage systems are subject to incomplete data services. In this study, we will bring forth a short overview through providing an analysis on IoT sensor networks, and will propose a new storage management scheme for IoT data. Our management scheme is based on RAID storage model using column-wise segmentation and compression to improve space efficiency without sacrificing I/O performance. We conclude that proposed storage control scheme outperforms the previous RAID control by computer performance simulation.

  • This paper discusses the prediction and validation of design loads of satellite components using modal mass acceleration curve (Modal MAC). To calculate the acceleration upper bound of the satellite components subjected to the launch environment by the Modal MAC, the parameters of SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle were used, and the acceleration upper bound curve in the modal domain was derived. After that, the maximum acceleration loads applied to the satellite components were predicted by combining Modal MAC with the spacecraft interface loads of the satellite/launch vehicle and modal information of the satellite. In addition, the accuracy of the Modal MAC was validated through comparison with the results of the coupled loads analysis using a simple satellite and launch vehicle model.

  • Economic indicators are a factor that affects air cargo volume. This study analyzes the different factors affecting air cargo volume by each Chinese cities according to the main characteristics. The purpose of this study is to help companies related to China, airlines, and other stakeholders predict and prepare for the fluctuations in air cargo volume and make optimal decisions. To this end, 20 economic data were used, and the entire data was reduced to 5 dimensions through factor analysis to build a dataset necessary and evaluated the influencing factors by multi regression. The result shows that Macro-Economic Indicators, Production/Service indicators are significant for every cities and Chinese manufacture/Customer indicators, Korean manufacture/Oil Price indicators, Trade/Current indicators are significant for each other city. All adjusted R2 values are high enough to explain our model and the result showed excellent performance in terms of analyzing the different factors which affects air cargo volume. If companies that are currently doing business with China can identify factors affecting China's cargo volume, they can be flexible in response to changes in plans such as plans to enter China, production plans and inventory management, and marketing strategies, which can be of great help in terms of corporate operations.

  • Determination of local tie vectors between the space geodetic techniques such as VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometer), SLR (Satellite Laser Ranging), DORIS (Doppler Orbit determination and Radiopositioning Integrated on Satellite), GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is essential for combination of ITRF (International Terrestrial Reference Frame). Therefore, it is required to compute IVP (Invariant Point) position of each space geodetic technique with high accuracy. In this study, we have computed Sejong VLBI IVP position by using updated mathematical model for adjustment computation so that the improvement on efficiency and reliability in computation are obtained. The measurements used for this study are the coordinates of reflective targets on the VLBI antenna and their accuracies are set to 1.5 mm for each component. The results show that the position of VLBI IVP together with its standard deviation is successfully estimated when they are compared with those of the results from previous study. However, it is notable that additional terrestrial surveying should be performed so that realistic measurement errors are incorporated in the adjustment computation process.

  • The quantified analysis of damages to wastewater treatment plants by natural disasters is essential to maintain the stability of wastewater treatment systems. However, studies on the quantified analysis of natural disaster effects on wastewater treatment systems are very rare. In this study, a total disaster index (DI) was developed to quantify the various damages to wastewater treatment systems from natural disasters using two statistical methods (i.e., AHP: analytic hierarchy process and PCA: principal component analysis). Typhoons, heavy rain, and earthquakes are considered as three major natural disasters for the development of the DI. A total of 15 input variables from public open-source data (e.g., statistical yearbook of wastewater treatment system, meteorological data and financial status in local governments) were used for the development of a DI for 199 wastewater treatment plants in Korea. The total DI was calculated from the weighted sum of the disaster indices of the three natural disasters (i.e., TI for typhoon, RI for heavy rain, and EI for earthquake). The three disaster indices of each natural disaster were determined from four components, such as possibility of occurrence and expected damages. The relative weights of the four components to calculate the disaster indices (TI, RI and EI) for each of the three natural disasters were also determined from AHP. PCA was used to determine the relative weights of the input variables to calculate the four components. The relative weights of TI, RI and EI to calculate total DI were determined as 0.547, 0.306, and 0.147 respectively.

  • Objectives Meal and nutrition are important lifestyle factors that affect maintenance and promotion of health status and are also associated with chronic diseases. In Sasang constitutional medicine, dietary behavior according to the characteristics of Sasang constitution (SC) types is a key component in health management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional status and quality of meals according to the SC. Methods This was a cross-sectional study of 1,947 subjects surveyed in a community-based cohort called the Korean Medicine Daejeon Citizen Cohort study. Data were collected including demographic characteristics, Korea Sasang Constitutional Diagnostic Questionnaire, and nutrition quotient (NQ) for adults. We analyzed the differences in NQ grade and scores among three SC types: Taeeumin (TE), Soeumin (SE), and Soyangin (SY), by conducting chi-square and ANCOVA tests. Results The distribution of SC into TE, SE, and SY types was 43.1%, 25.2%, and 31.8%, respectively. The mean NQ score of all subjects was 53.4±8.6. There was a significant difference in the distribution of NQ grades and mean of NQ scores among SC types, including total and four sub-factors: balance, diversity, moderation, and dietary behavior. The TE type had the lowest score for the moderation factors in the crude model. The SE type showed lower NQ scores than the TE and SY types in all domains except moderation after adjusting for variables. Conclusions We found that dietary behaviors had to be distinct according to the SC types. These results elucidate why it is important to develop a customized dietary habit management program considering the SC types.

  • Purpose: Sex determination can be done by morphological analysis of different parts of the body. The mastoid region, with its anatomical location at the skull base, is ideal for sex identification. Statistical shape analysis provides a simultaneous comparison of geometric information on different shapes in terms of size and shape features. This study aimed to investigate the geometric morphometry of the inter-mastoid triangle as a tool for sex determination in the Iranian population. Materials and Methods: The coordinates of 5 landmarks on the mastoid process on the 80 cone-beam computed tomographic images(from individuals aged 17-70 years, 52.5% female) were registered and digitalized. The Cartesian x-y coordinates were acquired for all landmarks, and the shape information was extracted from the principal component scores of generalized Procrustes fit. The t-test was used to compare centroid size. Cross-validated discriminant analysis was used for sex determination. The significance level for all tests was set at 0.05. Results: There was a significant difference in the mastoid size and shape between males and females(P<0.05). The first 2 components of the Procrustes shape coordinates explained 91.3% of the shape variation between the sexes. The accuracy of the discriminant model for sex determination was 88.8%. Conclusion: The application of morphometric geometric techniques will significantly impact forensic studies by providing a comprehensive analysis of differences in biological forms. The results demonstrated that statistical shape analysis can be used as a powerful tool for sex determination based on a morphometric analysis of the inter-mastoid triangle.

  • Moving-target detection using frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar systems has recently attracted attention. Detection tasks are more challenging with noise resulting from signals reflected from strong static objects or small moving objects(clutter) within radar range. Robust Principal Component Analysis (RPCA) approach for FMCW radar to detect moving objects in noisy environments is employed in this paper. In detail, compensation and calibration are first applied to raw input signals. Then, RPCA via Gradient Descents (RPCA-GD) is adopted to model the low-rank noisy background. A novel update algorithm for RPCA is proposed to reduce the computation cost. Finally, moving-targets are localized using an Automatic Multiscale-based Peak Detection (AMPD) method. All processing steps are based on a sliding window approach. The proposed scheme shows impressive results in both processing time and accuracy in comparison to other RPCA-based approaches on various experimental scenarios.
