A Study of Verb-Second Phenomena in Medieval Spanish Complex Sentences

  • This study aims at investigating the 'verb-second' phenomena indicated in complex sentences of medieval Spanish. Especially, when the complex sentence is composed of a preposed adverbial clause and its succeeding main clause, the subject inversion is noticeable in the latter. The fundamental motive of this type of inversion is due to the 'verb-second' structure, in which a topic appears in the first position and the verb immediately after the topic. So it can be said that the subject inversion is a prerequisite for a verb to be located in the second position when the adverbial clause functions as a topic to the main clause, as is often the case with Germanic languages like German, Dutch, etc.. On the contrary, modern Spanish complex sentences do not show this phenomenon, with a strong tendency to locate a grammatical subject in the preverbal position. Therefore, medieval Spanish might be typologically closer to Germanic languages than to modern Spanish. In order to argue for this assumption, the formal and functional criteria by which the preposed adverbial clause could be defined as a topic NP will be examined across the comparition with left-dislocation structure.

SOLUTIONS FOR QUADRATIC TRINOMIAL PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL-DIFFERENCE EQUATIONS IN ℂn

  • In this paper, we utilize Nevanlinna theory to study the existence and forms of solutions for quadratic trinomial complex partial differential-difference equations of the form aF2 + 2ωFG + bG2 = exp(g), where ab ≠ 0, ω ∈ ℂ with ω2 ≠ 0, ab and g is a polynomial in ℂn. In order to achieve a comprehensive and thorough analysis, we study the characteristics of solutions in two specific cases: one when ω2 ≠ 0, ab and the other when ω = 0. Because polynomials in several complex variables may exhibit periodic behavior, a property that differs from polynomials in single complex variables, our study of finding solutions of equations in ℂn is significant. The main results of the paper improved several known results in ℂn for n ≥ 2. Additionally, the corollaries generalize results of Xu et al. [Rocky Mountain J. Math. 52(6) (2022), 2169-2187] for trinomial equations with arbitrary coefficients in ℂn. Finally, we provide examples that endorse the validity of the conclusions drawn from the main results and their related remarks.

  • Accurate modeling of complex dynamic stiffness of the pneumatic springs is crucial for an efficient design of vibration isolation tables for precision instruments such as optical devices or nano-technology equipments. Besides pressurized air itself, diaphragm made of rubber materials, essentially employed for prevention of air leakage, plays a significant contribution to the total complex stiffness. Therefore, effects of the diaphragm should be taken care of precisely. The complex stiffness of an inflated diaphragm is difficult to predict or measure, since it is always working together with the pressurized air. In our earlier research, the complex stiffness of a diaphragm was indirectly estimated simply by subtracting stiffness of the pressurized air from measurement of the total complex stiffness for a single chamber pneumatic spring. In order to reflect dynamic stiffness of inflated diaphragm on the total stiffness at the initial design or design improvement stage, however, it is required to be able to predict beforehand. In this presentation, how to predict the complex stiffness of inflated rubber diaphragm by commercial FE codes(e.g. ABAQUS) will be discussed and the results will be compared with the indirectly measured values.

학교시설 복합화를 위한 표준협약서 개발 (Development of Standard Agreement for a School Complex Project)

  • A school building complex means building both the learning spaces of students and convenience space of community within school lands. The projects have has a positive effect on saving the national budget as well as expanding the learning spaces. The absence of standard agreement contracted through discussion of participants, however, has made many problems in the operated projects. Through analysis on the previous researches and conference, the paper finds main problems discussed in the operating step. And, the feasibility study is carried out in order to analyze the appropriateness of on the existing agreements on the problems. Finally, the paper presents the standard agreement for the school building complex projects. The practitioners can prevent the existing problems from new projects through using the proposed agreement. Furthermore, it is expected that the school building complex projects will be activated.

  • 본 연구에서는 복합 AAM 영구 앵커를 소개하고, 앵커의 설계시 인발력($P_a$)에 의해 앵커에 작용하는 힘의 관계 검토, 지압파괴에 대한 검토, 앵커사이 지반에서의 인장파괴 유발하중 검토 등을 통하여 복합 AAM 영구 앵커의 설계법을 소개하였다. 그리고 복합 AAM 영구 앵커의 거동특성을 알아보기 위하여 설계법의 의한 예측결과와 현장인발시험 결과를 비교 검토하였다.

자유로운 연결 구조를 갖는 복잡 동적망의 동기화 (Synchronization of a Complex Dynamical Network with Free Coupling Matrix)

  • This paper considers synchronization problem of a complex dynamical network. For the problem, the virtual target node is chosen as one of nodes in the complex network and only one connection is needed between an isolate target node and virtual target node not any more connections. Moreover, our synchronization scheme does not need additional conditions and information of coupling matrix comparing with existing works. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, a design criterion for a novel adaptive feedback controller for the synchronization between the isolate target node and another nodes of the complex network is proposed. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a numerical example in order to show the effectiveness of our results.

  • Perdeuterated hexaflouroacetylacetonato-ytterbium [Yb(SOL-D)$_3$] complexes were synthesized by the keto-enol tautomerism reaction of Yb(SOL-H)$_3$in methanol-d$_4$in order to reduce the radiationless transition to the ligands. The luminescence properties of Yb(SOL-D)$_3$complex were measured in the following anhydrous deuterated organic solvents ; Methanol-d$_4$, THF-d$_{8}$, PO(O$CH_3$)$_3$and DMSO-d$_{6}$. The intensity, lifetime and quantum efficiency of the luminescence in DMSO-d$_{6}$ were superior to those in other deuterated solvents. It was suggested that the anhydrous DMSO-d$_{6}$ might be the most appropriate solvent for the liquid laser material of Yb(SOL-D)$_3$complex.complex.

  • The transient behavior of the complex-LMS adaptive filter is studied when the adaptive filter is operating on a fixed or sweeping complex frequency sine-wave signal. The first-order difference equation is derived for the mean weights and its closed form solution is obtained. The transient response is represented as a function of the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of input correlation matrix. The mean-square error of the algorithm is evaluated as well. An optimal convergence parameter and filter length can be determined for sweeping frequency sine-wave signals as a function of frequency change rate and signal and noise powers.

  • In the development of housing estates, 'Sustainable development' is indispensable to achieving quality in our living environments, and to minimize any environmental problems which may threaten our way of life. Developed from the 1970's, sustainable development has become the global paradigm. Determining and improving the community elements of a sustainable housing complex is important in order to improve the quality of life within the housing complex. The purpose of this study is to suggest evaluation factors of sustainability and community for the planning of a housing complex. For this purpose, this study firstly deduce the elements of sustainability and community. In the study, literature research methods are used for data collection. The results of this study are as follows: First, the elements of sustainability are comprised of social, economic and environmental aspects. Second, the elements of community are comprised of hardware, software, and human aspects.

A modified tabu search for redundancy allocation problem of complex systems of ships

  • The traditional RAP (Redundancy Allocation Problem) of complex systems has considered only the redundancy of subsystem with homogeneous components. In this paper we extend it as a RAP of complex systems with heterogeneous components which is more flexible than the case of homogeneous components. We model this problem as a nonlinear integer programming problem, find its optimal solution by tabu search, and suggest an example of the efficient reliability design with heterogeneous components. In order to improve the quality of the solution of the tabu search, we suggest a modified tabu search to employ an adaptive procedure (1-opt or 2-opt exchange) to generate the efficient neighborhood solutions. Computational results show that our modified procedure obtains better solutions as the size of problem increases from 30 to 50, even though it requires rather more computing time. With some adjustment of the parameters of the proposed method, it can be applied to the optimal reliability designs of complex systems of ships.
