  • Competitive displacement of methylcellulose (MC) absorbed at the oil-water interface was investigated by interfacial composition, surface shear viscosity, or surface tension measurements. It was found that all emulsifiers could competitively displace the interfacial MC from the oil-water interface but their behaviors were different from each other. With Tween 20 added to MC emulsion (1 wt% MC, 10 wt% n-tetradecane, 20 mM bis-tris, pH 7), MC load was steadily decreased with increasing concentrations of the emulsifier, as confirmed by surface shear viscosity measurements; moreover, there was complete MC displacement from the emulsion droplet surface at high concentration (0.1 wt%). The oil-soluble Span 80 was found to show a synergism with MC at the interface, which resulted in higher MC load at relatively low emulsifier concentrations ($\leq$0.05 wt%). At a higher emulsifier concentration (0.1 wt%) limited MC displacement was observed. These results were well supported by surface shear viscosity measurements. With water-soluble SDS, MC load was decreased with increasing concentrations of the emulsifier. Unlike Tween 20, however, it was found that at high concentrations (> 0.1 wt%), there was still some MC remaining at the droplet surface. Surface tension measurements are suggestive of an interfacial complex between MC and SDS.

  • The displacement of protein bound sulfonamides (sulfisoxazole, sulfamethoxazole, sulfisomidine) by furosemide was investigated in bovine serum albumin by equilibrium dialysis method. Furosemide $(2{\times}10^{-4}M)$ in bovine serum albumin ($7.24{\times}10^{-5}$, $1.45{\times}10^{-4}$, $2.89{\times}10^{-4}M$). Sulfisoxa캐1e and furosemide were bound reversibly to bovine serum albumin and competitive for the same binding sites when administered together. Consequently, dosage regimen of sulfisoxazole should be adjusted carefully when sulfisoxazole is administered along with furosemide.

  • The mathematical modelling of screw compressor processes and its implementation in their design began about 30 years ago with the publication of several pioneering papers on this topic, mainly at Purdue Compressor Conferences. This led to the gradual introduction of computer aided design, which, in turn, resulted in huge improvements in these machines, especially in oil-flooded air compressors, where the market is very competitive. A review of progress in such methods is presented in this paper together with their application in successful compressor designs. As a result of their introduction, even small details are now considered significant in efforts to improve performance and reduce costs. Despite this, there are still possibilities to introduce new methods and procedures for improved rotor profiles, design optimisation for each specified duty and specialized compressor design, all of which can lead to a better product and new areas of application. A review of methods and procedures which lead to modern screw compressor practice is presented in this paper. This paper is intended to give a cross section through activities being done in mathematical modelling of screw compressor process through last five decades. It is expected to serve as a basis for further contributions in the area and as a challenge to the forthcoming generations of scientists and engineers to concentrate their efforts in finding future and more extended approaches and submit their contributions.

  • Spindle design is very important for the improvement of the competitive power in production cost of high quality machine tools. The important factor in spindle design is not only to improve the natural frequency of spindle but also to reduce displacement of spindle end. In this paper, parameters those influence on static and dynamic stiffness of high-speed spindle have selected form preceding studies. And those selected parameters are applied to Taguchi Method. To perform FEM analysis, bearing conditions are selected with optimized condition. To know how to improve static and dynamic stiffness of machine tool spindle, natural frequency and displacement of spindle end are obtained by FEM analysis. The Taguchi Method was used to draw optimized condition of bearing position and it's stiffness. From these results, amplitude of vibration is enough good less than $3{\mu}m$ pk-pk of the spindle of 40,000rpm manufactured in this work by the optimal design.

  • The displacements of steel deck bridge due to construction step are measured, and three dimensional analysis with full modeling is carried out to compare with the measured results. Three dimensional structural analyses considering construction step by large block construction method are accomplished with verified model. The conclusions are as follows. 1. Comparing the data of grid analysis with the result of 3D full modeling in steel deck bridge, the design method using grid analysis has a limit for describing the displacements of curved bridge. The analysis of 3D full modeling has been proved as more accurate method. The differentiation of results in two methods is about 10%~20%. 2. It is verified that the maximum displacement of during construction is 1.7 times larger than the displacement of final construction. 3. The bridge behavior considering the construction step is somewhat different from that of final stage in whole structure and the displacement and stress during construction is larger than that of final construction. Therefore, it needs the reasonable structural design considering the construction step to get economical efficiency and a high competitive construction.

  • I proposed small ambulatory robot actuators using piezoelectric benders. In order to make the motion of the biomimetic robot legs similar to the movements of the cockroaches or similar insects, two pairs of legs in the diagonal direction in the four leg structures are required to make the same movement. And elliptical displacement is realized by taking into account horizontal and vertical displacement of multimode oscillations and driving them by electrical signals with differences step by step, for example of 90° the T-shaped robot actuator showed wide range of speed (From 2 mm/sec. up to 266 mm/sec.) and ability of transportation (up to 10 g with 50 mm/s). Locomotive performance of the robot was competitive to the preceding robots, and moreover, the modular type actuators of a segmented myriapods robot could be added and removed for different tasks or performances.

  • It is important to understand the interrelationship between adsorption, equilibrium and mass transport in efficient design and operation of the granular activated carbon(GAC) adsorption systems. In this study, the micro-diameter-depth adsorption system(MIDDAS) technique was developed to estimate equilibrium and mass transport parameters, which were utilized to simulate adsorption and mass transport phenomena dynamically and mathematically. The homogeneous surface diffusion model(HSDM) utilizing the estimated equilibrium and mass transport parameters including the film transfer coefficients and surface diffusivities from the MIDDAS technique, successfully predicted competitive adsorption, desorption and chromatographic displacement effects. In the binary solute system of p-chlorophenol(PCP) and p-nitrophenol(PNP), PCP was displaced by PNP and the HSDM could predict successfully. While the HSDM described the desorption breakthrough curves for PCP, PNP and PTS well when complete reversible adsorption was assumed, the desorption breakthrough curves for DBS could be predicted after subsequent incorporation of the degree of irreversibility into the model simulations.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of types of drive-in initial steps in basketball on technical factors, to provide basic information for the enhancement of basketball skill. Method: Ten men (age: $24.70{\pm}2.26years$; height: $181.00{\pm}5.72cm$; weight: $75.70{\pm}8.23kg$; career length: $10.00{\pm}3.59years$), each with a career length of over five years and no history of injury to the lower extremities within the prior six months, participated in this study. They were asked to perform four types of drive-in movements at $35{\sim}60^{\circ}$, wearing their own shoes, after running from a start line 5 m away and catching a basketball passed by an expert passer. The drive-in movements were measured by eight infrared cameras (Oqus 300, Qualisys, Sweden). Collected raw data were used to calculate total initial step time, displacement, velocity, center of mass (COM) height, and COM velocity. Results: Total initial step displacement and velocity of cross drive-ins (JC, SC) were greater than that of direct drive-ins (JD, SD; p < .05). COM velocity of cross drive-ins (JC, SC) was also greater than that of direct drive-ins (JD, SD; p < .05). Conclusion: Our results indicated that cross drive-ins, regardless of stop step type, are more effective than direct drive-ins. This is because cross drive-ins are technically bold due to less influence from walking violations and double dribble rules in basketball. However, using one-sided movement is too difficult to play in competitive game; therefore, basketball players should develop the ability to choose appropriate movement frequency.
