Statistical analyses are done to determine if there have been significant changes in inventory turnover ratios and how turnover ratio pattern varied by factors such as industry, size of the firm, and the effectiveness of previous inventory management. Inventory turnover ratios decreased for four consecutive years and were found to vary by industry. Also it is proved that there was statistically significant relationship between the size of the firm and the average level of inventory as a fraction of sales. Regression analysis is done to investigate the relationship between the inventory management performance and profitability of companies and it is found that improvement in inventory level affected profitability of the companies.

  • From middle of 90's, SCM had emphasized the importance of connection of all companies which participate to a market, and outsourcing has emphasizes the slim structure of companies for pursing cost reduction and service improvement. But outsourcing as '2-1=1' and integration as '1+1=2' not adapt to the advanced market but return to the former state. Besides, it is impossible of subcontractors and logistics companies to execute these strategies which are win-win strategy and outsourcing. So many logistics companies have sharp competition in price recently. Therefore logistics companies have increased the need for a profitable business model and strategy. This paper researches the limitations of logistics market and redefines the role of logistics through the evolution of logistics. Also this paper proposes new role(Logister) and structure(Velcro structure) for not maker-oriented logistics but market-oriented logistics. The introductory case study will help to understand 2 terms(logister and velcro structure).

  • There have been few studies which deal with the linkage between a corporate strategy and its management control system. Especially, no empirical study has been done in Korea to figure out if management control systems of Korean companies are designed and implemented to support companies' objectives and strategies. Based on the survey results of 68 companies we empirically tested if Korean companies are implementing appropriate control systems to complement their Quality strategies. Two representative quality strategies were classified into ECL(Economic Conformance-Level) and ZD(Zero-Defect) strategy. It was measured by a set of seven attitude questions addressing whether the managers adhered to ECL strategy or ZD Quality strategy. In addition, we checked if there is a difference m the level of commitment to the quality depending on the adoption of quality cost system. The results partly support the second hypothesis and regarding the first analysis we can conclude that there is not a strong linkage between Korean companies' ZD strategy and their management control systems.

  • This paper suggests energy efficiency which can be the foundation on corporate profit and effective energy management following by change of global climate and of energy-related regulations. Using comparable financial information and information related to energy use, an DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model has been used to identify energy efficiency with DMU (Decision Making Unit)s which are companies subjected to reduce greenhouse gas emission in 2009. Through this research, different from existing researches, environmental variables which can influence on energy efficiency are identified. The results show as follows. First, most of companies follow IRS, which means scale of economy exists among units so that they have more opportunity to increase efficiency by increasing scale of inputs. Second, this research identified that depending on the difference of environmental characters such as the emission structure and the size of companies, energy efficiency of the companies turns out differently.

  • We performed the two analyses of variance to determine the total quality management practices in the environmental pollution prevention industry by classifying the companies based on the size (large or medium/small) and on the type (manufacturing or service). A few previous studies reveal that in Korea the large companies are not the same as the medium/small companies in the TQM practices while the practices are not alterated by the type of companies whether manufacturing or service. But in the United States the TQM practices are not affected by the size of the company. Su, pp.rting the previous studies on the Korean industry our studies show that the TQM practices are significantly influenced by the company size, but not by the type of the company. Taking the results of our studies into consideration we would also like to propose a revision of examination criteria for National Quality Management Award with special emphasis given to medium/small companies.

  • This study examines which factors are urging Korean companies to participate in e-marketplaces. By adding interorganizational factors, we extended an innovation-theory-based research model that is often applied to study the information technology adoption. 71 questionnaires from 720 Korean manufacturing companies were collected. Independent variables of the research were environmental, organizational, innovation, and interorganizational characteristics. We found that the environmental characteristics, innovation characteristics, and interorganizational characteristics have insignificant effect on the participation of domestic companies in e-marketplaces whereas the organizational characteristics have significant relationship with the participation in e-marketplaces. The result implies that many Korean companies take wait-and-see strategy in the forming stage of e-marketplaces, However, IT infrastructure and the support of top management for IT play very important role in adopting e-marketplaces.
