  • A styled document is a document that contains diverse decorating functions such as different font, colors, tables and images generally authored in a word processor (e.g., MS-WORD, Open Office). Compared to a plain-text document, a styled document enables a human to easily recognize a logical structure such as section, subsection and contents of a document. However, it is difficult for a computer to recognize the structure if a writer does not explicitly specify a type of an element by using the styling functions of a word processor. It is one of the obstacles to enhance document version management systems because they currently manage the document with a file as a unit, not the document elements as a management unit. This paper proposes a machine learning based approach to analyzing the logical structure of a styled document composing of sections, subsections and contents. We first suggest a feature vector for characterizing document elements from a styled document, composing of eight features such as font size, indentation and period, each of which is a frequently discovered item in a styled document. Then, we trained machine learning classifiers such as Random Forest and Support Vector Machine using the suggested feature vector. The trained classifiers are used to automatically identify logical structure of a styled document. Our experiment obtained 92.78% of precision and 94.02% of recall for analyzing the logical structure of 50 styled documents.

  • This paper presented efficient transceiver structure using sub-band processing for underwater communication in terms of covertness and performance improvement. In aspect of covertness, encrypted coded-bits are divided into groups, and center frequency and sub band are determined by coded-bits of each group. Therefore, as center frequencies are changed randomly, it maintain the covertness effectively. In aspect of performance improvement, the performance of underwater communication mainly depends on multi-path propagation characteristics, Doppler-spread, and frame synchronization. Accordingly, in order to overcome these effects, non-coherent energy detector and turbo equalization method are employed in receiver side. Furthermore, optimal frame synchronization was proposed. Through the simulation and lake experiment, performance analysis was conducted. Especially in the lake experiment, as a result of applying optimal frame synchronization method to receiver structure, errors are corrected in most frames.

  • In this paper, a high-gain antenna for satellite communication is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of septum polarizer, circular waveguide, Hat-feed structure that has a high-gain and efficiency. Especially, it is smaller and lighter than the conventional satellite communication antennas by applying a hat-feed structure. The measured results show that received gain of proposed antenna is better than 29.9 dBi and transmitted gain of proposed antenna is better than 30.5 dBi. The co-polarized and cross-polarized radiation patterns comply with ITU-RR Ap.8 and ITU-R S.731-1 that are recommended by International Telecommunication Union. The designed high-gain antenna for satellite communication is expected to be used for OTM and airborne satellite systems.

  • Together with the GPS-based approach, geo-location through mobile communication networks is a key technology for location-based service. To save the cost, most geo-location system is implemented on the existed network service, which has a cellular structure. Still, multilateration is limited in cellular structure because it is difficult for the mobile terminal to acquire distance measurements from multiple base stations. This low hearability in the receiver is caused by co-channel interference and multipath environment. Therefore, hearability enhancement is necessary for multilateration under multipath and interference environment. Former time domain based hearability methods were designed for real signals. However, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal, which its usage has been increased in digital wireless communication, is a complex signal. Thus, different hearability enhancement method is needed for OFDM signals. This paper proposes a hearability enhancement method for forward-link multilateration using OFDM signals, which employ interference cancellation and multipath mitigation. A novel interference cancellation and multipath mitigation strategy for complex-valued OFDM signals is presented that has an iterative structure. Simulation results show that the proposed multilateration method provides the user's position with an accuracy of less than 80m through the mobile WiMAX cellular network in multipath environment.

  • A low density parity check (LDPC) decoder provides a most powerful error control capability for mobile communication devices and storage systems, due to its performance being close to Shannon's limit. In this paper, we introduce an efficient overlapped LDPC decoding algorithm using a upper dual-diagonal parity check matrix structure. By means of this algorithm, the LDPC decoder can concurrently execute parts of the check node update and variable node update in the sum-product algorithm. In this way, we can reduce the number of clock cycles per iteration as well as reduce the total latency. The proposed decoding structure offers a very simple control and is very flexible in terms of the variable bit length and variable code rate. The experiment results show that the proposed decoder can complete the decoding of codewords within 70% of the number of clock cycles required for a conventional non-overlapped decoder. The proposed design also reduces the power consumption by 33% when compared to the non-overlapped design.

  • 4$\times$4 Butler Matrix structure has been presented in this paper. It can passes the signal with equal power level and phase difference in the 824MHz to 894MHz frequency of the cellular band. Conventional Butler Matrix was implemented as a single layer substrate structure, but in this paper, we use multi-layer substrate structure and eventually we could get it reduced in size than others. We also used the LTCC coupler to reduce the size effectively, instead of using $90^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler composed of microstrip structure. we used Designer V3.5 Ansoft HFSS V11 for design of 4$\times$4 Butler matrix. Finally, we get good agreements between simulation and experimental results.
