The Home Management Behavior Pattern and Contribution to the Family Life of Urban Housewives (도시 주부의 가정관리행동유형과 가정생활 기여감)

  • The purpose of this study was to find the relation between the home management behavior pattern and contribution to the family life of urban housewives and to find out variables which influence them. The samples were selected from 522 housewives with children more than one living in Seoul. The major findings were: 1) In the housewives the degree of education of resourcefulness recognition and of communication were high home management behavior pattern was relatively morphogensis. 2) Influential variables on contribution to the family were the level of education status of employment and as the home management behavior pattern was morphogensis. 3) The relative contribution of home management behavior pattern of contribution to the family was the highest among other variables ; socio-demographic and psychological variables.

  • This study was undertaken to evaluate the living condition and the reality of visiting part-time workers through the survey. On the matter of living condition, the most difficult problem is financial problem followed by residential problem. On the matter of female's household labor, there was a considerable difference according to the houseband's age and academic background, and family monthly income. On the question of family relationship, it was found that there was rare communication between children and father because father was rigid to talk with. In the case of mother and children, they could not find time to talk with each other. In the group of the old aged, they work to make their living. On the other hand, in the group of younger generations and the higher educated, they replied that they should work whatever the work is. It was found that they were subjected to their work because of their financial situation and that they were under the double yoke of family and work because there were no legal protection and organizational devices.

Mediating Effect of Work-family Balance on the Relationship between Anger and Organizational Commitment (한국 직장인의 일-가정양립이 분노와 조직몰입 간의 관계에 미치는 매개효과)

  • The current study is to examine the effects of anger and work-family balance on organizational commitment. Two-hundred workers attending the Institute of Lifelong Education at a University in Seoul completed the instruments assessing anger, work-family balance, and organizational commitment. The results from structural equation modeling analysis showed that anger was negatively related to work-family balance and organizational commitment, and work-family balance was positively related to organizational commitment. Moreover, the relationship between anger and organizational commitment was partially mediated by work-family balance. These findings suggest that a way to focus on both anger and work-family balance than only anger is more productive in order to boost organizational commitment.

Changes of Stress and Coping Strategy in Families of Schizophrenic Patients after Brief Program of Family Education (정신분열병 환자 가족의 단기 가족교육 후 대처전략 및 스트레스 변화에 대한 연구)

  • Objectives : This study was aimed to investigate stress and coping strategy in the families of schizophrenic patient, and changes of knowledge, stress and coping strategy after brief program of family education compared with control group Methods : The education group consisted of twenty four people who were families with schizophrenic patients and attended the brief program of family education. The control group consisted of twenty two people with schizophrenic inpatients. Self-report questionnaires such as Family Coping Questionnaire(FCQ), Patient Rejection Scale(PRS), Worry Questionnaire, Knowledge Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI) were administered to the education group and the control group, twice at the pre-test and post-test. Results : 1) In the education group, scores of worry questionnaire, BDI and STAI-S at the post-test were significantly lower than those at the pre-test. Social interests score of FCQ and knowledge questionnaire score at the post-test were significantly higher than those at the pre-test. In FCQ factors, social interests associated with avoidance strategy score at the post-test was significantly higher than that at the pre-test. However, in the control group, there was no significant difference in all questionnaires. 2) In the education group, significant positive correlation existed between calculated differences of worry questionnaire and STAI-S, and between worry questionnaire and STAI-T, whereas significant negative correlation existed between positive communication of FCQ and PRS, and between knowledge questionnaire and STAI-S. In the control group, significant negative correlation existed between information of FCQ and PRS, and between positive communication of FCQ and PRS. 3) In the education group, significant positive correlation existed between calculated differences of worry questionnaire and age of patient, whereas significant negative correlation existed between knowledge questionnaire and duration of illness. However, in the control group, there was no significant correlation. Conclusion : The brief program of family education was effective in increasing knowledge about schizophrenia, decreasing worry and anxiety about the patients in families with schizophrenic patient. In the education group as knowledge about schizophrenia increased, anxiety about schizophrenic patient decreased, but there was no significant correlation in the control group. As relative's rejection feeling about schizophrenic patient decreased, positive communication strategy increased in both groups. However, the control group was more affected by rejection feeling than the education group.

A Study on the Development of the Korean Family Functioning Scale. (한국형 가족 기능 측정 도구 개발을 위한 연구 - 만성질환아 가족을 대상으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the instrument to measure family functioning for Korean family with a chronic ill child, and to test the validity and reliability of the instrument. Method: The items of instrument were consisted based on researchers' previous study of concept analysis of the Korean family functioning. Twenty six item scale was developed with six domains. In order to test reliability and validity of the scale, data were collected from the 231 families, who have a child with a chronic illness. Data was collected between August and September in 2001 in a General Hospital in Seoul, Korea. Result: The results were as follows: As a result of the item analysis, 24 items were selected from the total of 26 items, excluding items with low correlation with total scale. Six factors were evolved by factor analysis. Six factors explained 61.4% of the total variance. The first factor 'Affective bonding' explained 15.4%, 2nd factor 'External relationship' 11.8%, 3rd factor 'Family norm' 10.5%, 4th factor 'Role and responsibilities' 8.3%, 5th factor ' Communication' 7.9%, and the 6th factor 'Financial resource' explained 7.3%. Cronbach's $\alpha$ coefficient of this scale was .87 and Guttman spilt- half coefficient was .84. Conclusion: The study support the reliability and validity of the scale. There were distinct differences in dimensions of family functioning scales developed in the U. S.

The Influencing Factors on Adolescent's Self-Efficacy (청소년의 자기효능감 영향 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the influencing factors on adolescent's self-efficacy. Method: This was a descriptive study. The data were collected from 7th through 12th graders(N=1710) enrolled in middle schools(N=873) and high schools(N=837) in the metropolitan area of Daegu. The instruments had used for this study were the self-efficacy, the life event checklist, and Family APGAR. The data were analyzed using frequency, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Result: Pearson correlation analysis revealed that there were negative correlations between the self-efficacy and the stress. However, in case of the subjects who recorded higher scores at self-efficacy they showed higher scores at family function. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that powerful predictors of adolescent's self-efficacy were family function and relations of schoolmate. Conclusion: From these results, we can find that the family function and relations of schoolmate were actual factors theta affected the self-efficacy of adolescents. Accordingly, affirmative emotion in family, harmonic communication among family members and sharing housekeeping works is recommended as a useful method in order to enhance the family function, and then the self-efficacy of adolescence will be increased.

Development of a Teaching and Learning Plan for a Communication Unit for Family Members and Its Effect on Teenagers' Functional Communications and Relational Satisfaction with Their Parents (부모자녀간 의사소통과 관계향상을 위한 교수.학습 과정안 개발 및 적용: 중학교 1학년 '가족구성원간의 의사소통' 단원을 중심으로)

  • This research explored the importance of conflict resolution in communication between adolescents and their parents. A teaching and learning plan on communication using the Active listening, I-message method and no-lose conflict resolution method was developed and applied to teaching the 'Communication among Family Members' unit in the middle school home economics and technology textbook. The experimental class of 203 students using the active listening, I message and no-lose conflict resolution method in communication was compared with a comparative class of 163 students using only the active listening and I message method, investigating the amounts of communication, conflicts, functional communication and degree of satisfaction the students perceived regarding relationships with their parents via pre and post tests. Both groups showed significant increases in their amounts of communication and functional communication. However, only the experimental class showed an increase in their degree of relationship satisfaction with their parents. Both groups evaluated the lesson positively.

The Effects of Stress Management and Family Cohesion on Middle-aged Women's Happiness Utilizing the SPSS Program - Focusing on middle-aged women living in Cities K and Y - (SPSS 프로그램을 이용한 중년여성의 스트레스 대처, 가족응집력이 행복감에 미치는 영향 - K시와 Y시에 거주하는 중년여성을 중심으로 -)

  • This research aims to analyze the effects of stress management and family cohesion on middle-aged women. Research subjects were 322 middle-aged women living in cities K and Y ranging between 40-60 years of age. A frequency analysis, reliability analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis were carried out utilizing the SPSS 18.0 statistics program. Firstly, results showed that the most frequently shown subjects were between 40-49 years old (59.3%), married (82.7%, 267), high school graduates or less (63.2%, 204), and practiced religion (77.6%, 250). Secondly, stress management, family cohesion, and happiness were the most frequent answers in this order. Thirdly, stress management, family cohesion, and happiness all showed to have a positive correlation. Fourthly, family cohesion had no effect on happiness. Meanwhile, stress management had the biggest effect on happiness with an explanation rate of 28.2%. The implications of this research are expected to be used as base line data for future social welfare programs for the improvement of middle-aged women's happiness.

Relationship between Perceived Health Status and Patient Satisfaction in Outpatient Settings - Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2015

  • Background: It is important to investigate patient satisfaction to improve the quality of healthcare. Among the many factors that affect patient satisfaction, perceived health status has been considered as one of the major factors. Therefore, we investigated patient satisfaction through patient experience in outpatient settings according to perceived health status. Methods: This cross-sectional study using questionnaires of patient experience and perceived health status from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2015 included 4267 people aged over 19 years who met the inclusion criteria. Perceived health status was classified into three: good, fair, and poor. Questions about patient experience consisted of four items: doctor spending enough time with patients, doctor providing easy-to-understand explanation, doctor giving opportunity to ask questions or raise concerns, and doctor involving patient in decisions about care or treatment. Patient experience was classified into two: satisfied and non-satisfied. A multivariate regression model was used to analyze the data. Results: In the good perceived health status group, level of satisfaction was 79.2%, 88.5%, 83.3% and 87.2%, respectively for the four items targeting patient experience. In the poor group, level of satisfaction was 76%, 84.9%, 79.5%, and 83.1%, respectively for the four items. In multivariate logistic regression analyses, the odds ratios of good perceived health status group were 1.775 (1.347-2.338), 1.946 (1.356-2.793), 1.652 (1.218-2.240), and 1.665 (1.193-2.323) compared with the poor group. Conclusion: Perceived health status is associated with patient satisfaction. In particular, the better the perceived health status, the better the patient satisfaction through patient experience.

Structural Relationships Among Parent-Adolescent Communication, Ego-Identity, and School Adjustment (부모-자녀 간의 의사소통, 자아정체감, 청소년의 학교적응 간의 관계구조)

  • The purpose of this study was twofold: One was to investigate the structural relationships among communication with father and mother, ego-identity, and school adjustment. The other was to test the structural equivalence among researched variables between middle and high school samples. The subjects were 419 sophomores of middle and high schools. The major findings were as follows. 1) Communication with the father had direct and indirect effects on adolescents' school adjustment, while communication with the mother had only an indirect effect on school adjustment. 2) Ego-identity had a direct effect on school adjustment, and mediated the effects of communication with father and mother in school adjustment. 3) Multiple-group analysis revealed that middle and high school groups had the same structural relationships, but had different regression weights.
