(Yeo Shin Hong et at,1994) The study was conducted in the form of a primary experimental design with 43 people as subjects, including dementia patients and family member in several Myon areas of Chungcheong Namdo between June 10 and August 20, 1994. The data was collected by questionnaires through the home visit by the CHPs. The results of study are as follows. 1. There is no difference in the quality of life between before and after the education program. 2. Role stress 'before the education program' was significantly different than 'after the education program'. 3. There was no difference in the feeling of burden between before and after the education program. 4. There was a significant difference in the abnormal behaviors of patients between before and after the education program. 5. The knowledge of dementia by the patient's family increased significantly after the education program, compared to that of 'before the education program'. 6. There was a significant difference in the attitude of family members toward the education program on dementia between before and after the education program. 7. The results of analysis on the coefficient relationship of various variables showed that the age of patients and family members have a significant correlation with role stress(p=.01). 8. In the subjective evaluation of family members on changes in actual nursing actions and the improvement of knowledge and technique in terms of daily living, (including abnormal behavior of patients, adjustment of environment for patients, activity programs for patients, communication technique with patients, ensuring the safety of patients, clothing, meals and elimination, 60-65% of family members responded that their knowledge had increased. As for improvement in techniques for each item, the technique for communication with patients showed the greatest improvement while the action program method for patients showed the least change. As for the nursing service provided to patients, most respondents showed a positive change. The specific items for which more than 80% respondents answered positively were as follows : recognizing the demand of patients, getting patients to do simple house works, talking softly and gently, removing dangerous things, preparing comfortable clothes that are easy to put on and take off, and limiting water consumption at night. As a result of study, the following suggestions can be made. The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of an education program developed and applied for dementia patients and family members in the community. This needs to be compared with a similar study conducted in the urban setting. In addition, a community service program (ex : nursing hem and shelter) including the application of the education program should be developed and the study done to investigate its effect.

  • This study tries to figure out the communication types between a mother-in-law and a foreign daughter-in-law through their 'confrontational conversation.' For this, three episodes of 'Multicultural Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Biography' aired by EBS (Education Broadcasting System) were monitored. The dialogues between the mother-in-law and the foreign daughter-in-law were written down and analyzed. According to the result, there were 'dysfunctional communication' styles during their conversation. Theses styles deepened their conflict. Thus, to abate the conflict between the mother-in-law and the foreign daughter-in-law, this study suggested that it was necessary to develop the convergence counseling program and the family therapy for their functional communication.

  • The purpose of the study is to integrate multi-cultural families with special needs and situations into family living and Korean social groups. Nowadays there has been an increase in the number of international marriages. According to these changes, there are a variety of social problems such as cultural conflicts, domestic violence, difficulty in communication, and bad relationships between family members because of misunderstandings. These social problems can be alleviated by a family integration education program for multi-cultural families. This program was developed in order to help immigrant women in their initial settlement and to provide them with information on mutual culture of family living. The contents of the program consist of how to live a harmonious, understanding and hopeful family life. The method of evaluation is to survey the immigrant women's self esteem and conduct an interview. The results of the evaluation are to promote a positive relationship between family members. Also the family agreed to promote favorable sentiments toward each other. The program also had meaningful consequences for the improvement of the immigrants' realistic expectation of marriage and conflict resolution skills. I am hopeful that more elaborate programs for multi-cultural families will be developed in order to maximize the effect with appropriate education and support systems.

  • This qualitative case study focuses on five small and medium-sized enterprises which have put family-friendly management into successful practice. Through in-depth unstructured interviews with five human resources managers and ten employees, we describe each firm's approach to work-life balance including working hour reductions, breaks, work flexibility, and parental leave to build an overall picture. We also discuss the four key factors of the CEO's role; democratic communication between all staff, the usefulness of family-friendly certification as a starting point; and governmental support for promoting work-life balance at small and medium-sized enterprises. Finally, we suggest three political implications of governmental support, namely CEO education, changing the criteria of family-friendly certification to redefine working hours and work flexibility, and incentives specifically for small to medium-sized enterprises.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe the relationship between family stress and adaptation in families with a disabled child through literature review using McCubbin's Double ABCX family crisis framework. The literature review focused on (1) family stress and factors affecting family stress, (2) the critical individual, familial and social resources which families acquire and employ over time in managing crisis situation. (3) the changes in definition and meaning families develop in an effort to make sense out of their predicament. (4) the coping strategies families employ. and (5) the range of outcomes of these family efforts The results showed that families reported financial difficulties and the burden of care-giving demands as major family stressors. Siblings of disabled children manifested depressive symptoms and social isolation. but was not consistent study results. The parents' views of the cause of the disabling condition fundamentally affected their behavior toward their disabled child. Especially. the fathers' views of the child's characteristics made the greatest contribution to positive changes in the mothers' perceptions. The term perceived social support refers to the cognitive appraisal by individuals that they are cared for and valued, that significant others are available to them if needed, and that they are satisfied with their interpersonal relationships. The perceived social support was more protective than social support source. network size and network density. Parental adaptation was found to be related to the child's communication competence rather than family coping strategies proposed by Lazarus and Folkman. One study results showed that there was no difference in depressive symptoms and physical health between mothers with a disabled child and those without all though mothers with a disabled child had negative attitudes and perceived themselves as having significantly less social support and lower family functioning. But a longitudinal study revealed decreases in the negative impact of the child and increases in sibling and overall family adaptation.

  • The main purpose of the research was to prove, in a practical sense, the relationship among perceived equity, role stress and life satisfaction of employed wives working in sales departments. The subjects were employed wives working in sales departments who have at least one child and a spouse, living in Seoul and the Metropolitan area. The final data analysis used 487 out of 668 questionnaires. Statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS/PC WIN which included frequencies, mean, percentages, Pearson's correlation, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, multiple regression analysis. The findings of the study were as follows: 1) As their education level was low, the education level of their spouse was high, the communication level between couples was high, and the self-oriented perfectionism was low, their perceived emotional relationship was equal. As they were old, the communication level between couples was high, and the self-oriented perfectionism was low, their perceived position in sharing household chores was equal. On the other hand, as they were younger, the education level of their spouse was high, the reason for getting a job lay in supporting the family, and overtime hours worked, there was a higher level of role stress. 2) The influential variables which affect the life satisfaction, in order of importance, were communication level between couples, mother's role stress, age, non-financial reason of getting a job, and sharing household works. For relative contribution degree about life satisfaction, psychological variables among independent variables were revealed as the most influential ones. Thus, efficient communication between couples affected the life satisfaction to a great degree. Furthermore, the study proved that not only role stress variables but also perceived equity variables contributed to the life satisfaction.
