Long Term Efficacy of Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion with Standard Cages alone in Lumbar Disc Diseases Combined with Modic Changes

  • Objective : Posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) is considered to have the best theoretical potential in promoting bony fusion of unstable vertebral segments by way of a load sharing effect of the anterior column. This study was undertaken to investigate the efficacy of PLIF with cages in chronic degenerative disc disease with Modic degeneration (changes of vertebral end plate). Methods : A total of 597 patients underwent a PLIF with threaded fusion cages (TFC) from 1993 to 2000. Three-hundred-fifty-one patients, who could be followed for more than 3 years, were enrolled in this study. Patients were grouped into 4 categories according to Modic classification (no degeneration : 259, type 1 : 26, type 2 : 55, type 3 : 11). Clinical and radiographic data were evaluated retrospectively. Results : The clinical success rate according to the Prolo's functional and economic outcome scale was 86% in patients without degeneration and 83% in patients with Modic degeneration. The clinical outcomes in each group were 88% in type 1, 84% in type 2, and 73% in type 3. The bony fusion rate was 97% in patients without degeneration and 83% in patients with Modic degeneration. The bony fusion rate in each group was 81% in type 1, 84% in type 2, and 55% in type 3. The clinical success and fusion rates were significantly lower in patients with type 3 degeneration. Conclusion : The PLIF with TFC has been found to be an effective procedure for lumbar spine fusion. But, the clinical outcome and bony fusion rates were significantly low in the patients with Modic type 3. The authors suggest that PLIF combined with pedicle screw fixation would be the better for them.

충청북도 직업교육 중·장기발전 방안 (Research on development plan of medium and long period of Vocational Education for Chungbuk)

  • 'VEC 2010'은 2010년까지 충청북도 직업교육(Vocational Education for Chungbuk)에 대한 중 장기 발전 방안의 비전을 의미한다. 이를 위해 학교실정에 맞도록 '3-Type 교육과정'의 유형을 선택 도입하고, 각 권역별로 지역 산업 클러스터와 연계하여 전문화된 특성화고등학교로 전환하여 운영한다. 또한 직업기초능력 교육에 중점을 둔 다양한 교육과정을 운영하여 수요자의 요구를 충족시킬 수 있는 통합형고등학교를 운영한다. 충청북도 직업교육의 활성화 방안은 대학 진학을 위한 계속교육과 취업을 위한 종국교육으로, 이원화된 교육을 실시하여 21세기 지식기반사회가 요구하는 인재를 양성하고자 하는 취지를 가지고 있다. 'VEC 2010'의 구체적인 내용은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 실업계고등학교의 중 장기 운영 체제 유형을 일반 실업계고등학교와 특성화고등학교(단일형, 복합형)로 제시하였다. 둘째, 충청북도 실업계고등학교의 교육과정 유형을 '3-Type(취업중심형, 진학중심형, 창업중심형) 교육과정'으로 구분하여 편성 운영한다. 셋째, 충청북도 실업계고등학교를 4대 권역으로 나누어 중 장기적 체제 개편 방향을 제시하였다. 넷째, 충청북도 직업교육의 내실화 방안은 대학수학능력시험 직업탐구영역의 학력제고, 직업기초능력 신장, 공동실습소의 운영 내실화, 전문교과 인정도서 개발의 행 재정지원, 교육과정 및 진로교육의 강화 등을 제시하였다.

Milk mineral과 α-tocopherol 첨가가 유화형 소시지의 지방산화와 무기물 함량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Addition of Milk mineral and α-tocopherol on the Lipid Oxidation and Mineral Contents of Emulsion-type Sausages)

  • 본 연구는 유화형 소시지 제조 시 milk mineral과 α-tocopherol을 첨가하여 소시지를 제조한 다음 소시지의 지방산화와 무기물 함량에 미치는 영향을 비교하고, 또 이들의 시너지 효과를 구명하고자 실시하였다. 소시지의 pH값은 milk mineral 첨가와 milk mineral과 α-tocopherol 혼합 첨가 소시지가 전 저장기간 동안 대조구와 α-tocopherol 첨가 소시지에 비해 높았다(P<0.05). POV값은 milk mineral과 α-tocopherol 혼합 첨가 소시지가 대조구와 α-tocopherol 첨가 소시지에 비해 낮았다(P<0.05). TBARS는 milk mineral 첨가와 α-tocopherol과 milk mineral 혼합 첨가 소시지가 대조구와 α-tocopherol 첨가 소시지에 비해 낮았다(P<0.05). 마그네슘, 칼슘 및 인 함량은 milk mineral과 α-tocopherol 혼합 첨가 소시지가 대조구, milk mineral 및 α-tocopherol 첨가 소시지에 비해 현저히 높았지만, 나트륨과 칼륨 함량은 α-tocopherol 첨가 소시지가 높았다(P<0.05).이상에서 milk mineral과 α-tocopherol 혼합 첨가 소시지는 대조구와 α-tocopherol 첨가 소시지에 비해 POV와 TBARS가 낮아 지방산화 억제 효과가 있었지만, 현저한 시너지 효과는 없었다. 또한 milk mineral과 α-tocopherol 혼합 첨가 소시지는 각종 무기물 함량을 증진시킬 수 있는 육제품 생산이 가능하다고 사료된다.

플라즈마 EGR 조합시스템 터보 인터쿨러 ECU 커먼레일 디젤기관의 성능 및 $NO_x{\cdot}THC$ 배출물 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of Performance and $NO_x{\cdot}THC$ Emissions in Turbo Intercooler ECU Common-rail Diesel Engines with a Combined Plasma EGR System)

  • The aim in this study is to develop the combined EGR system with a non-thermal plasma reactor for reducing exhaust emissions and improving fuel economy in turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engines. At the first step, in this paper, the characteristics of performance and $NO_x{\cdot}THC$ emissions under four kinds of engine loads are experimentally investigated by using a four-cycle, four-cylinder, direct injection type, water-cooled turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engine with a combined plasma exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) system operating at three kinds of engine speeds. The EGR system is used to reduce $NO_x$ emissions, and the non-thermal plasma reactor and turbo intercooler system are used to reduce THC emissions. The plasma system is a flat-to-flat type reactor operated by a plasma power supply. The fuel is sprayed by pilot and main injections at the variable injection timing between BTDC $15^{\circ}$ and ATDC $1^{\circ}$ according to experimental conditions. It is found that the specific fuel consumption rate with EGR is increased, but the fuel economy is better than that of mechanical injection type diesel engine as compared with the same output. Results show that $NO_x$ emissions are decreased, but THC emissions are increased, as the EGR rate is elevated. $NO_x$ and THC emissions are also slightly decreased as the applied electrical voltage of the non-thermal plasma reactor is elevated. Thus one can conclude that the influence of EGR in $NO_x$ and THC emissions is larger than that of the non-thermal plasma reactor, but THC emissions are greatly influenced by the non-thermal plasma reactor as the EGR rate is elevated.

혼합 발광다이오드와 형광등에서 자란 적치마 상추의 생육 및 광 이용 효율 비교 (Comparison of Combined Light-emitting Diodes and Fluorescent Lamps for Growth and Light Use Efficiency of Red Leaf Lettuce)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 폐쇄형 식물생산시스템에서 세가지 혼합 LED와 형광등에서 자란 적치마 상추의 생육과 광이용효율을 비교하는 것이다. 18일간 육묘한 적치마상추묘를 적색(R, 655nm), 청색(B, 456nm), 녹색(G, 515nm), 백색(W, 456nm + 558nm)의 혼합 LED(R:B=8:2, R:W:B=8:1:1, R:G:B=8:1:1)와 형광등이 설치된 폐쇄형 식물생산시스템에 정식하였다. 형광등에서 자란 상추는 모든 LED 처리에 비해 유의적으로 높은 엽형지수를 보였다. 지상부와 지하부 생육에서 LED 처리간 유의적 차이를 보이지 않았으나, 모든 LED 처리가 형광등에 비해 약 34% 지상부 생체중의 증가를 유도시켰다. 한편, 정식 후 4주차에 형광등의 총 소비 전력은 145kW인 반면, LED 처리구들에서 형광등의 약 1/3배인 54kW를 나타냈다. LED 처리구들의 건물중에 대비한 광 이용 효율은 약 34mg/W였으며, 이는 형광등 보다 약 3.5배 높은 값이었다. 결론적으로, 본 연구는 식물 생산 시스템에서 적절한 조합의 LED 조사는 형광등에 비해 상추 생장을 증진시킬 수 있으며 추가적으로 에너지 절감을 통해 광이용효율도 극대화 할 수 있음을 보여주었다.

크랭크식 이앙기(移秧機) 식부기구(植付機構)의 동적(動的) 균형(均衡)에 관한 연구(硏究) (Dynamic Balancing of Crank-type Transplanting Mechanism of Rice Transplanter)

  • The purpose of this study was twofold : first, to reduce as much as possible the shaking moments of the crank-type transplanting mechanism of walking-type rice transplanters, and second, to evaluate whether or not a crank-type transplanting mechanism, if its shaking moment is reduced, can be used in riding-type transplanters for high speed transplanting operations. For these purposes, kinematic and force analyses of the currently available crank-type transplanting mechanisms were made and their results were compared with those observed by experimentation. The degree of shaking moment effect was also estimated Various efforts to minimize the shaking moments led to the development of a crank-type mechanism with a balancing gear, in which an eccentric balancing gear is combined into the driven link axis. Analysis of the developed mechanism showed that about 20% of the shaking energy can be reduced and about 40% of reduction in peak shaking moment can be obtained when comparing with those obtained without the balancing gear. It was concluded that crank-type transplanting mechanisms can be used for high speed operations with a forward speed of 0.9-1.2m/s if the balancing gear is additionally mounted. However, further considerations must be made to solve the space constraints in relation to the structural frame of riding type of rice transplanters.

직교.대향류 충진재를 이용한 하이브리드 냉각탑에 대한 실험적 연구 (The Experimental Study of the Hybrid Cooling Tower using Cross and Counter Type Fills)

  • An experimental study on the Hybrid Cooling Tower has been done having a rated capacity of 3RT. Counter flow type fill, cross flow type fill and hybrid-type fill which is combined with two type fills as previously stated having a height of 0.3m have been used in the 0.8m${\times}$0.4m${\times}$1.9m dimensional tower respectively. The heat exchanger is consisting of 2 or 3 rows. The relevant temperatures and the velocities were selected based on the typical Korean weather for the year round operation of the tower. The cooling capacity of the tower is explained with respect to varying air inlet velocities, wet-bulb temperatures, and air to cooling water volume flow rate ratio (L/G ratio). The capacity of the hybrid-type fill was much superior to other fills, but hybrid-type fill shows higher pressure drop.

다중 슬림형 감쇠장치의 개발 및 성능 실험 (Development of Multiple Slim Type Damper System and Performance Test)

  • For the vibration control of residential buildings, a multiple type slim damper system is developed and dynamic performance test is performed in this study. In conventional damping systems, larger installation space is required in order to achieve acceptable seismic performance, and as a result, it is difficult to determine efficient damping capacity of the device. The proposed damping device is composed of several small slim type dampers and linkage units. It can control damping capacity easily by changing the number of the small damper. To evaluate the proposed damping device, three slim type dampers (single-type, triple-type and penta-type) are designed and manufactured in real scale. Dynamic loading tests are performed by using the three manufactured dampers. From the tests, it is shown that damping coefficient is proportional to the number of the damper combined. Thus, test results validates the practicality of the proposed slim type dampers. applying nonlinear curve fitting technique, numerical model of the dampers are developed and presented.
