  • In tall building construction, time for transporting form affects formwork duration as plan size has become larger and quantity of inputted form has been increased. Thus, necessity of systematic dismantlement sequence of form has been increased to reduce the duration of formwork. Tabu search has been efficiently applied to solve problem of combinatorial optimization by using tabu list which can improve combination values. Therefore, this study proposes optimization model of dismantlement sequence of table form which has been preferred in tall building construction, to reduce the formwork duration by minimizing time for transporting form.

  • This paper proposes a combinatorial method to compute the global and local solutions of optimization problem. The present hybrid algorithm is the synthesis of a genetic algorithm and a local concentrate search algorithm (simplex method). The hybrid algorithm is not only faster than the standard genetic algorithm, but also gives a more accurate solution. In addition, this algorithm can find both the global and local optimum solutions. An optimization result is presented to demonstrate that the proposed approach successfully focuses on the advantages of global and local searches. Three numerical examples are also presented in this paper to compare with conventional methods.

  • The Vehicle Routing and Scheduling Problem with Time Windows(VRSPTW) is to establish a delivery route of minimum cost satisfying the time constraints and capacity demands of many customers. The VRSPTW takes a long time to generate a solution because this is a NP-hard problem. To generate the nearest optimal solution within a reasonable time, we propose the heuristic by using an ACO(Ant Colony Optimization) with multi-cost functions. The multi-cost functions can generate a feasible initial-route by applying various weight values, such as distance, demand, angle and time window, to the cost factors when each ant evaluates the cost to move to the next customer node. Our experimental results show that our heuristic can generate the nearest optimal solution more efficiently than Solomon I1 heuristic or Hybrid heuristic applied by the opportunity time.

  • The Dynamic Vehicle Routing Problem (DVRP) involves a combinatorial optimization problem where new customer demands become known over time, and old routes must be reconfigured to generate new routes while executing the current solution. We consider the high level of dynamism problem. An application of highly dynamic DVRP is the ambulance service where a patient contacts the service center, followed by an evaluation of case severity, and a visit by a practitioner/ ambulance is scheduled accordingly. This paper considers a variant of the DVRP and proposes a decentralized algorithm in which collaborators (Depot and Vehicle), both have only partial information about the entire system. The DVRP is modeled as a periodic re optimization of VRP using the proposed decentralized algorithm where collaborators exchange local information to achieve the best global objective for the current state of the system. We assume the existence of a dispatcher e.g., headquarter of the company who can communicate to vehicles in order to gather information and assigns the new visits to them. The effectiveness of the proposed decentralized coordination algorithm is further evaluated using benchmark data given in literature. The results show that the proposed method performed better than the compared algorithms which utilize the centralized coordination in 12 out of 21 benchmark problems.

  • Shortest path problem belongs to the combinatorial optimization problem and plays an important role in the field of computer aided design. It can either be directly applied as in the case of routing or serves as a important subroutine in more complex problems. In this paper, a systolic array for the SSSP(single-source shortest path problem) was derived. The array was modeled and simulated in RTL level using VHDL, then synthesized to a schematic and finally implemented to a layout using the cell library based on 0.35 $\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS 1-poly 4-metal CMOS technology.

  • The generalized knapsack problem, or gknap is the combinatorial optimization problem of optimizing a nonnegative linear functional over the integral hull of the intersection of a polynomially separable 0 - 1 polytope and a knapsack constraint. Among many potential applications, the knapsack, the restricted shortest path, and the restricted spanning tree problem are such examples. We establish some necessary and sufficient conditions for a gknap to admit a fully polynomial approximation scheme, or FPTAS, To do so, we recapture the scaling and approximate binary search techniques in the framework of gknap. This also enables us to find a condition that a gknap does not have an FP-TAS. This condition is more general than the strong NP-hardness.

  • The job shop scheduling problem is not only NP-hard, but is one of the well known hardest combinatorial optimization problems. The goal of this research is to develop an efficient scheduling method based on hybrid genetic algorithm to address job shop scheduling problem. In this scheduling method, generating method of initial population, new genetic operator, selection method are developed. The scheduling method based on genetic algorithm are tested on standard benchmark job shop scheduling problem. The results were compared with another genetic algorithm0-based scheduling method. Compared to traditional genetic, algorithm, the proposed approach yields significant improvement at a solution.

  • Wireless sensor networks have taken immense interest in healthcare systems in recent years. One example of it is in an in vivo sensor that is deployed in critical and sensitive healthcare applications like artificial retina, cardiac pacemaker, drug delivery, blood pressure, internal heat calculation, glucosemonitoring etc. In vivo sensor nodes exhibit temperature that may be very dangerous for human tissues. However, existing in vivo thermal aware routing approaches suffer from hotspot creation, delay, and computational complexity. These limitations motivate us toward an in vivo virtual backbone, a small subset of nodes, connected to all other nodes and involved in routing of all nodes, -based solution. A virtual backbone is lightweight and its fault-tolerant version allows in vivo sensor nodes to disconnect hotspot paths and to use alternative paths. We have formulated the problem as m-connected k-dominating set problem with minimum temperature cost in in vivo sensor network. This is a combinatorial optimization problem and we have been motivated to use evolutionary approach to solve the problem.

  • In this paper, we investigate the performance of multi-channel cognitive radio networks (CRNs) by taking into consideration the problem of channel assignment and link scheduling. We assume that secondary nodes are equipped with multiple radios and can switch among multiple channels. How to allocate channels to links and how much power used on each channel to avoid mutual interference among secondary links are the key problem for such CRNs. We formulate the problem of channel assignment and link scheduling as a combinatorial optimization problem. Then, we propose a the optimal solution and show that it converges to maximum optimum in some iterations by using numerical results.

  • This paper proposes the optimal placement with minimum set of Phasor Measurement Units (PMU's) using tabu search and makes an alternative plan to secure the robustness of the network with PMU's. The optimal PMU Placement (OPP) problem is generally expressed as a combinatorial optimization problem subjected to the observability constraints. Thus, it is necessary to make a use of an efficient method in solving the OPP problem. In this paper, a tabu search based approach to solve efficiently this OPP problem proposed. The observability of the network with PMU's is fragile at any single PMU contingency. To overcome the fragility, an alternative scheme that makes efficient use of the existing measurement system in power system state estimation proposed. The performance of the proposed approach and the alternative scheme is evaluated with IEEE sample systems.
