  • This research was performed to investigate how the basic glaze change affected colour development at high temperature with a stable colorant (spinel structure CoAl2O4 pigment) The compounded pigment which is widely used for porcelain was also tested for the basic glazes adaptability. The data from the test were recorded in a computer data-base program. Therefore could be easily used in the study related with a pottery field. CoO : Al2O3 system spinel pigment of barium glaze lime glaze zinc glaze lead glaze and talc glaze were chosen for this study. The colors of Cobalt blue bright blue, blue purple were seen at the wave lengths of 455-480nm at the firing temperature of 1250$^{\circ}C$. Stable color were obtained from lime glaze bar-ium glaze zinc glaze. All the information in the database were used to examine all the possible result of the test in the study of porcelain. When the test results database were examined in all temperature ranges the lack of adhesion with the pigment occurred at the temperature of 1150$^{\circ}C$. The lack of adhesion is seen due to vaporization of the lead glaze.

  • After aconitine-type alkaloids have been isolated from the crude drug "Buza" as the precipitate, they could be identified with colour test, UV/Vis. absorption wavelength, TLC. The presence of aconitine-type alkaloids are confirmed by the reaction with the Reineke ion, $[Cr(NH_3)_2(SCN)_4]^{1+}$, and TCR ion, $[Co(SCN)4]^{2-}$, to produce the white precipitate or one of the containing from blue to yellowish blue. It is based on the formation of complex compounds by aconitine-type alkaloids with Reineke and TCR reagent. The method has been found to be simple, convenient and suitable for routine identification of aconitine-type alkaloids, related basic compounds, the crude drug "Buza" processed from the roots of certain Aconitum spp. plants(Ranunculaceae).

  • Purpose: To investigate the effect of color soft contact lenses on the corneal thickness in young Korean population. Methods: The subjects consisted of 112 eyes (7 males, 49 females) with the mean age of $20.987{\pm}1.093years$ (range 20-25 years) in young Korean population during 2018. Test was compared the corneal thickness before and after wearing color soft contact lenses. The thinnest cornea thickness(TCT), central cornea thickness(CCT), pupil centre thickness(PCT), superior corneal thickness(SCT),inferior corneal thickness(ICT), medial corneal thickness(MCT), lateral corneal thickness(LCT) of the cornea was measured using the Pentacam pachymetry. The statistically analysis was perform the Shaparo-Wilk test. Results: The right eye was a statistically significant among the CCT,LCT, MCT and TCT values(p<0.001) in the compared the corneal thickness before and after wearing soft colour contact lenses. Also the left eye was a statistically significant among the LCT and MCT values(p<0.001) in the compared the corneal thickness before and after wearing soft colour contact lenses. However, there was no statistical difference (p>0.5) in the mean PCT between before and after wearing color soft contact lenses. Conclusion: These results suggested that the color soft contact lens wear can the effect the regional thickness of cornea. Therefore, the analysis of corneal topography with Pentacam can provide correct and useful diagnostic information of the morphology of the RGP contact lens fitting and diagnosis of corneal refraction surgery.

  • Samples showing yellow mosaic symptom of Lilium spp. with necrotic fleck, stunting, malformation, and colour breaking were collected from lily-growing areas in the southern part of Korea. Two viruses were distinguished under a electron microscope and their host range, serological reaction, stability in sap, type of aphid transmission, and relations with cells and tissues were examined. Broad bean wilt virus (BBWV) was transmitted by sap-inoculation to 23 plant species in 8 families and by the aphid, Myzus persicae. This virus was inactivated after 10 min at 70C, at dilution of $10^{-3}$, and after 6 days at about 20C. Electron microscopic examination of purified preparation showed that the virus is spherical particle of 28nm in diameter. The virus reacted positively with BBWV-antiserum in agar gel diffusion test. In ultrathin sections of BBWV infected tissues, large aggregates or crystalline array of virus particles and vesicular body were found in the cytoplasm, vacuole, and nucleus of mesophyll cells. Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) was transmitted by sap-inoculation. Electron microscopic examination of its purified preparation showed spherical particles of 30nm in diameter. The virus reacted positively with CMV-Y strain-antiserum in agar gel diffusion test. In ultrathin sections of CMV infected tissues, crystalline array of virus particles were found in the vacuole and a large number 0f virus particles were found in the cytoplasm and the plasmodesmata of mesophyll cells. When each of these viruses was retransmitted to Lilium tigrinum. L. concolor, and L. auratum, BBWV induced slight symtoms and colour breaking, but CMV induced yellowing mosaic or necrotic fleck.

  • The aim of this study was to validate the suitability of an digital image analysis (DIA) method to measure the degree of saturation in the unsaturated conditions. This study was carried out on the Joo-Mun-Jin standard sand. A one-dimensional sand column test was used in the constant water level condition to get the correlation equation between the color number ($C_n$) and the measured degree of saturation (5). In addition, the hanging wale. column technique to determine the soil-water charactenstic curve (SWCC) was performed in a Buchner funnel. The average degree of saturation ($S_{ave}$) in the SWCC could be obtained by substituting average color number at each suction head value with the $C_n\;-\;S$ correlation equation. Comparisons were made between the measured results by the hanging water column test and those obtained from DIA method. Results showed that the DIA method tested here provided fairly good saturation distribution values in the drying and wetting processes.

  • To elucidate the dependability of seed variability determination by tetrazolium, 15 tree species were checked. For the comparison of potential germinability for these tree seeds, x-ray photography and routine germination test in a incubator were implemented. Though there were considerable differences of seed variability in percentage between germination test and tetrazolium test, the judgement by tetrazolium test and x-ray test gave similar results. These findings indicated that tetrazolium test is a reliable method if treated and inferred properly. Solution of 0.25 percent tetrazolium could give a complete colour reaction as well as 0.50 percent solution.

  • We have performed a spectroscopic study of globular cluster (GC) system associated with the Virgo cD galaxy M87 using the Subaru/FOCAS MOS mode. We derive ages, metallicities and abundance ratios from the GC spectra using Simple Stellar Population (SSP) models. The metallicity distribution function (MDF) obtained empirically based on Milky Way GCs is consistent with the MDF derived from SSP models. A comparison with a meta-analysis using literature data sample of 15 other GC systems shows good agreement with our results. The properties of GCs acquired from the spectra will be used to test the recent theoretical prediction of a significant inflection along the colour-metallicity relations (Yoon et al. 2006). If confirmed, the non-linearity of the relations would shed new light on the interpretation of the GC colour bimodality. The robustness of our results is being tested against the choice of a SSP model, measurement errors and sample selection towards the goal of better understanding the formation history of GCs and host galaxy.

  • Treatment of PET fabrics with alkali, chitosan and Al-mordanting has been carried out and the role of the chitosan coating in the dyeing process was clarified. The pre-treatment was effectively evaluated differences in dyeing behavior between its treated and untreated PET fabrics using wood of Caesalpinia sappan. The pre-treated on PET fabrics has been examined by SEM and evidence for the presence of chitosan sought using a air permeability test. Similar colour fastness by computer color matching(CCM) obtained on both untreated and pre-treated PET fabrics. The pre-treated PET was found to be of a deeper hue to that of its dyed untreated PET and, despite of its better colour depth, the wash fastness of the pre-treated dyeing was comparable to that of its dyed untreated PR. The application of chitosan or mordanting reveled that pre-treatment imparted to the PET additional functional groups that were available for coordination with the Brazilin.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare with color reproducibility of the coating method and dipping method using a colour liquid. Methods: Two groups of square-shaped specimens ($10mm{\times}10mm$ in diameter, 1.5mm thickness) were prepared for analysis(n=15/group). The CM(Coating Method) group was fabricated as full zirconia specimens with the coating coloring method and Group DM(Dipping Method) was prepared as specimens of 0.7 mm-thick zirconia plate using the dipping coloring method and veneered with 0.8mm-thick porcelain. Color parameters were measured with ShadeEye $NCC^{(R)}$ spectrophotometer and color differences were calculated using the equation ${\Delta}E^*= \{({\Delta}L^*)^2+({\Delta}a^*)^2+({\Delta}b^*)^2\}^{1/2}$. Non-parametric statistical methods, the Mann-Whitney test, and the Kruskal-Wallis test were used to analyze the data. Type one error rate was set at 0.05. Results: Color difference values larger than 7 were observed between specimens with the coating method and the dipping method, which were detectable difference in a clinical setting. Conclusion: Cautious application of the coating coloring method in a clinical setting and further researches to standardize the coating method are needed.
