  • It is necessary for lower grade students to study the correct usage of tools as a base of the technical education for dismantling and assembling various machines. However, enough understanding has not been obtained though the usage of these tools when training first grade students. So, we started to develop a teaching text and materials within the students' practice curriculum based on the dismantling and assembly of all-terrain vehicle [ATV]'s, which is a very motivating for lower grade students. This practice makes the student learn both how to use the tools and the steering mechanism of cars through the dismantling and assembling of the ATV. It is possible to not only have the student learn about the knowledge obtained through the practice, but also they also acquire wider and deeper knowledge through making the text and teaching materials for the practice. The textbook and secondary educational materials of this practice curriculum were created in cooperation with a fifth grade student as part of their graduation research. As a result, an effective teaching and learning text and secondary educational material regarding manufacturing practice could be developed from the student's point of view. Making a teaching text and materials is effective for promoting the study and experience of engineering.

Method: The data was collected from 30 Sept to 20 Oct 2002. The subjects of this study were 240 nursing students, junior 2nd term trained by the preceptors and 137 preceptors of 12 hospitals located in Inchon, Gyong Ki-do, and Seoul. The scale for measuring the teaching effectiveness, developed by Kim Miae et al.(1998), was employed as a tool for me study. The data was analysed by SPSS using mean value(SD), and ANOVA. Results: Mean value of teaching efficiency of preceptors evaluated by me nursing students scored 3.68(maximum 5). For 5 causal factors classified en the teaching efficiency, the factor of "teaching method and evaluation" showed the highest score, but "available as resource person" get the lowest. Items showing high score en teaching efficiency were "overall effectiveness of teacher", "was able to work with staff in cooperative manner", but the item of was unclear in instructions given to me showed the lowest. The psychiatric ward get the highest score, but cardiac catheterization room showed the lowest. The hospital 10 showed the highest score, but the hospital 8 get the lowest. Conclusion: As the findings from this study, the ordered clinical nursing education by preceptor showed higher teaching efficiency than the conventional education. Thus, cooperative relationship between nursing colleges and hospitals shall be suggested for improving the quality of clinical nursing education, and ordered clinical nursing education system.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between burden and teaching effectiveness on clinical nursing practice. The subjects were collected 135 clinical nurses who have taught nursing students and worked at hospitals which have over 400 beds in Seoul, Inchon, and Kyoung-gi Do. The instruments used in this study were : the burden on clinical nursing education was measured by Montgomery (1985) developed and visual analogue scale, and effectiveness of clinical instruction was measured by Reeve (1994) developed. The results of this study were as follows. 1) Seeing that the general characteristics of participants : average ages we 32.8 years old, 29.6% of them have Catholics in religions. 75.6% of them were graduated from 3-year nursing college. 20.7% of nurses are working at the surgery ward and I.C.U in each. Clinical nursing career is average 10.03 years, clinical instructional career is 5.22 years, and clinical teaching time is 5.26 hours in a day. Contents of clinical teaching were composed of basic nursing skills 80.7%, orientation 78.5%, inspection(making rounds) 71.9%. 2) The mean score of the burden on clinical nursing instructor was 2.42 by Montgomery's scale and 4.69 by the visual analogue scale. Theses scores represented that subjects were not affected burden highly. The mean score of leaching effectiveness on clinical nursing education was 3.47 and the almost items were found to have higher level. 3) There is no statistically significant differences in the burden according to general characteristics. And the teaching effective ness on clinical nursing education according to general characteristics regarding the age, job position, clinical career and clinical educational time were shown statistically significant differences. 4) There is a negative correlation between the burden and teachin effectiveness on clinical nursing education with a correlation efficient(r=-0.396, p<0.01). Further study is recommended to explore the meaning of burden experiences of clinical instructor deeply and to identify the correlation between the burden of clinical instructor and teaching effectiveness as the job position, and to analysis differences in teaching effectiveness as subcategories.

  • In this paper, we report the types of teaching moves a mathematics teacher educator attempted in his teaching of third-grade students at an urban elementary school in South Korea over two months. We analyze the lesson videos to find the patterns of teaching moves and speculate the link between the teaching and students' mathematical proficiencies recommended in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Practices. Closely related teaching moves to the students' development of a certain mathematical proficiency would imply the exemplary practices that teachers-both inservice and preservice teachers-can implement in their classrooms.

  • This study assessed the effects of probiotics in canine atopic dermatitis (AD). We enrolled 11 client-owned dogs with AD and randomly allocated them to two groups. The probiotics group (n = 7) was prescribed with Bifidobacterium longum while the control group (n = 4) received a placebo powder once a day for 12 weeks. In both groups, the degree of skin lesions was evaluated based on the Canine Atopic Dermatitis Extent and Severity Index (CADESI)-4. We also measured the transepidermal water loss (TEWL). We assessed pruritus severity using the pruritus visual analog scale (PVAS). Alteration of consumed drug doses was converted into medication scores. All the evaluation indices were surveyed every 4 weeks. In the probiotics group, there was a significant decrease in the CADESI-4 score at 4, 8, and 12 weeks compared to that of the baseline score (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in TEWL, PVAS, and medication score at each time point and between groups. Although these results showed that Bifidobacterium longum did not reduce pruritus, TEWL, and the dosage of drugs for canine AD, it was effective in improving skin lesions, therefore, probiotics could be considered in canine AD with severe skin symptoms.
