This paper studies the collective communication in the grid computing environment, which is characterized by the combination of heterogeneous networks as well as uneven, long communication delay. Efficient collective communication requires communication schedule, which in turn requires network information. When the network information is not accurate or network faults occur, the performance of collective communication can be markedly degraded. This paper proposes TTCC(Two-Tree Collective Communication) for scheduling collective communication in the grid. It Provides an efficient and reliable schedule even In this unfavorable network condition by maintaining two disjoint communication trees. Benefits of the proposed method are manifested via simulation, where the performance degradation with TTCC is much slower than those using conventional scheduling algorithms.
Message Passing Interface (MPI) collective communication has been applied to various science and engineering area such as physics, chemistry, biology, and astronomy. The parallel computing performance of the data-intensive workload in the above research fields depends on the collective communication performance. To overcome this limitation, MPI collective communication technology has been extensively researched over the last several decades to improve communication performance. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art research performed on the MPI collective communication and examine the trends of recently developed technologies. We also discuss future research directions for providing high performance and scalability to large-scale MPI applications.

To maximize performance in a high-performance multicore processor system. it is essential to enable effective data communication between processing cores. Data communication between processor nodes can be broadly classified into collective and point-to-point communications. Collective communication comprises scattering and gathering. This paper presents a efficient message scattering and gathering based on processing node status. In the proposed algorithms, the transmission order is changed according to the data size of the pre-existing communication, to reduce the waiting time required until the collective communications begin. From the simulation, the performances of the proposed message scattering and gathering algorithms were improved by approximately 71.41% and 69.84%.
Is the social web environment in which production, distribution and consumption of information occurs from users an environment where manifestation of collective intelligence is easily made? Or is the social web environment a condition that incites people to depend on the groupthink due to biased information? It is important to conduct empirical studies on the possibility of social media as a tool of collective intelligence under the situation where conflicting opinions prevail. However, most of the existing studies related to this were limited to an exploratory research rather than an empirical research. In this regard, this study attempted to examine if the social media can perform a part as a platform of the collective intelligence empirically. Based on the experimental results, it can be safely said that the communication methods of social media showed its usefulness in both 'intellectual capacity of the group' and 'problem-solving skill of the group.'

In this paper, we propose a new method of the communication system for cooperative behavior and control in a collective autonomous mobile robots. A communication function among the collective robots is essential to intelligent cooperation. In general, global communication is effective for small number of robots. However when the number of robot goes on increasing, this becomes difficult to be realized because of limited communication capacity and increasing amount of information to handle. And also the problems such as communication interference and improper message transmission occur. So we propose local communication system based on infrared sensor to realize the cooperative behavior and control as the solution of above problem. It is possible to prevent overflow of information and exchange of complex information by combining communicate a specific robot. At last we verify the effectiveness of the proposed communication system from example of cooperative behavior.

In this paper, we propsoe a new method of th ecommunication system for cooperative behaviors and works in collective autonomous mobile robots. A communication function among the collective robots is essential to intelligent cooperative works. In genral, global communication is effective for small number of robots. However when the number of robot goes on increasing, this becomes difficult to be realized because of limited communication capacity and increasing amount of information to handle. And also the problems such as communciation interfeence and improper message transmission occur. So we propose local communication system based on infrared sensor to realize the cooperative behavior among robots as the solution of above problem. It is possible to prevent overflow of information and exchange of complex information by fusion sign board model which transmits the information to unspecified robots and message passing model which communicate a specific robot. And we formularize optimal communication range by analysis of information propagation mechanism from the proposed comunication system. At last we verify the effectiveness of the proposed communication system from example of cooperative works.
This study was aimed at suggesting an integrative framework for creating collective intelligence and enhancing group performance after reviewing previous studies including those related to learning organizations, organizational learning, knowledge management, and collective intelligence. In the first, we examined that the similarities and differences between collective intelligence and other similar concepts, such as learning organizations, organizational learning, and knowledge management. Next, an integrative framework for creating collective intelligence and channeling it into strong group performance were suggested. In this process, we reviewed conditions for creating collective intelligence and segmented the major variables as expectancy, valence, and instrumentality, according to Vroom's (1964) expectancy theory. Characteristics of problems and the roles of leaders were respectively considered as valence for inducing collaboration and expectancy for managing probability to achieve goals. Instrumental factors were also adopted from conditions for creating group intelligence suggested from several researchers, such as creativity, openness, willingness for working together, horizontal communication, centralization in decision making, and building effective information and communication technology system and active usage of it. We discussed two potentially disputable matters about the scope and level of collective intelligence and group performance and suggest several theoretical and practical implications in the Discussion.
Many researchers have been interested in the optimization of parallel programs through the latency hiding by overlapping the communication with the computation. We ana1yzed overlapping effects in the circular shift communication which is one of the collective communications being frequently used In many data parallel programs. We measured the time which can be possibly overlapped and the time which cannot be overlapped in over all circular shift communication period on an Ethernet switch-based clustered system. The result from each platform nay be used for the input of optimizing compilers. The previous performance models usually have two kinds of drawbacks one is only based on point-to-point communication, so it is not appropriate for analyzing the overall effects of collective communications. The other provides the performance of collective communication, but no overlapping effect. In this paper we extended the previous models and analyzed the experimental results of the extended model.

In this paper, on the assumption that MPI collective communication function is converted into a group of point-to-point communication functions in the transaction level, an algorithm that optimizes broadcast, scatter and gather function among MPI collective communication is proposed. The MPI hardware engine that operates the proposed algorithm was designed, and it was named the OCC-MPE (Optimized Collective Communication Message Passing Engine). The OCC-MPE operates point-to-point communication by using the standard send mode. The transmission order is arranged according to the algorithm that proposes the most frequently used broadcast, scatter and gather functions among the collective communications, so the whole communication time is reduced. To measure the performance of the proposed algorithm, the OCC-MPE with the Bus Functional Model (BFM) based on SystemC was designed. After evaluating the performance through the BFM based on SystemC, the proposed OCC-MPE is designed by using VerilogHDL. As a result of synthesizing with the TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$, the gate count of each OCC-MPE is approximately 1978.95 with four processing nodes. That occupies approximately 4.15% in the whole system, which means it takes up a relatively small amount. Improved performance is expected with relatively small amounts of area increase if the OCC-MPE operated by the proposed algorithm is added to the MPSoC (Multi-Processor System on a Chip).
The purpose of this study was to examine related variables that improve learning outcomes in collaborative learning. Based on literature reviews, emotional intelligence was used as a variable of personal character, communication ability and collective intelligence were used as variables in learning process, and learning satisfaction, and persistence were used as variables of learning outcomes. Data were collected from 3,475 students at A university, and were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results of this study are as follows: First, it turned out that emotional intelligence had a significant and positive impact on communication ability, collective intelligence, learning satisfaction, and persistence. Second, communication ability influenced collective intelligence and persistence positively. Third, collective intelligence influenced learning satisfaction and persistence positively. Fourth, learning satisfaction had a significant and positive impact on persistence. These findings offer basic data for collaborative learning by revealing the structural relationships among related variables that improve learning outcomes in collaborative learning of college students.
