  • This study examines the extent to which community cohesion moderates the effects of neighborhood disorder on community integration among persons with mental illnesses(MI) who are living in the community. Stress process model, social disorganization theory, and neighborhood disorder model were considered with regard to the moderating effect of community cohesion. 692 persons with MI who utilized Community Mental Health Enhancement Centers were surveyed and analyzed, employing moderated regression model. Major findings showed that neighborhood disorder increased social integration. Community cohesion moderated the relationships of neighborhood disorder to three dimensions of community integration: physical, social and psychological integration. Implications for community intervention beyond the individual and service-level interventions were addressed in order to accomplish community integration for persons with MI.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of family cohesion, family adaptability, and family system type on parent-adolescent relationship. For this study, adolescents' perceptions of family cohesion, family adaptability, and parent-adolescent relationship quality were utilized. The 443 subjects were selected randomly from the second grade of middle and high schools in the city of Taegu. The survey instruments were AFCESⅢ and CAM/CAF. Factor analysis, Cronbach's α, MANOVA, and Scheff test were conducted for the data analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) Adolescents who perceived their family as high in cohesion reported the highest quality parent-adolescent relationship in comparison with other levels of cohesion. (2) There were differences in adolescents' evaluations of parent-adolescent relationship quality by their perception of family adapability levels. Namely, adolescents who perceived family adaptability to be low level-i.e. rigid family-showed the relatively severe problems in the parent-adolescent relationship. (3) Adolescents did show some differences by types of family system in their evaluations of parent-adolescent relationship quality. Adolescents reported the highest quality parent-adolescent relationship when they perceived their families as balanced family.

  • It is extremely important to obtain rock strength parameters for geological engineering. In this paper, the evolution of sandstone cohesion and internal friction angle with plastic shear strain was obtained by simulating the cyclic loading and unloading tests under different confining pressures using Particle Flow Code software. By which and combined with the micro-crack propagation process, the mesoscopic mechanism of parameter evolution was studied. The results show that with the increase of plastic shear strain, the sandstone cohesion decreases first and then tends to be stable, while the internal friction angle increases first, then decreases, and finally maintains unchanged. The evolution of sandstone shear strength parameters is closely related to the whole process of crack formation, propagation and coalescence. When the internal micro-cracks are less and distributed randomly and dispersedly, and the rock shear strength parameters (cohesion, internal friction angle) are considered to have not been fully mobilized. As the directional development of the internal micro-fractures as well as the gradual formation of macroscopic shear plane, the rock cohesion reduces continuously and the internal friction angle is in the rise stage. As the formation of the macroscopic shear plane, both the rock cohesion and internal friction angle continuously decrease to a certain residual level.

  • In this study, the clay specimen of Busan-Gyeongnam region was used for unconfined compression test to compare the relationship formula between elasticity modulus at peak($E_f$), elasticity modulus at $q_u$/2($E_{50}$), and cohesion when the sample breaks down by region and by level of cohesion. As the result, the regional results were found to be in the range of $E_f$ = 14c~47c and $E_{50}$ = 43c~137c; by cohesion, the results for very soft ground was $E_f$ = 15c~40c and $E_{50}$ = 54c~101c, $E_f$ = 13c~63c and $E_{50$ = 40c~147c for soft ground, $E_f$ = 18c~47c and $E_{50}$ = 57c~144c for medium ground, and $E_f$ = 25c~45c and $E_{50}$ = 68c~115c for solid ground. The average of the relationship formula between elasticity modulus-cohesion for the clay used in this study was $E_f$ = 32c, $E_{50}$ = 93c. This is 2.5~5 times smaller than the existing relationship formula.

  • The objectives of this study were to examine whether there were differences in family cohesion and adaptability perceived by married women when socio-demographic variables authority patterns and sex-role attitudes changed. Dividing the family system type into two parts by the levels of cohesion and adaptability then collected data were examined to test curviliner and linear hypothesis. The subjects were 542 married women living in Pusan. The guestionnaires included FACES III Authority Pattern and Sex-role attitude scales. The data were analyzed with statistical methods such as Frequency Distribution Percentile Mean T-test and X2-test. The major findings were as follows: 1) The levels of family cohesion and family adaptability perceived by married women were high. 2) There were no significant statistical differences in the levels of socio-demographic variables Authority pattern Sex-role attitude among the groups of family system type I based on the curvilinear hypothesis but significant statistical differences were found in preferred variables among the groups of family system type II based on the linear hypothesis. 3) Among the socio-demographic variables family type religion and husband's educational level were significantly correlated with the groups of family system type II,. The percentiles of HH(the levels of cohesion and adaptability were high) families were high when the married women's sex-role attitudes leaned toward modern and authority patterns were husband-dominant.
