An Analysis of the Effects of Learning Stress for Inquiry Activities in College Earth Science Course

  • This study analyzed variations of learning stress by comparing the salivary cortisol levels of students who participated in Earth Science inquiry activities. The cortisol concentrations between the pre- and post-inquiries of the sample of 34 university students, who had taken the course of 'Basic Earth Science and Experiments', were analyzed. The Earth Science inquiries consisted of geology and astronomy activities. The observational geology activities consisted of a session of 'structure contours and map patterns' and the cognitive astronomy activities consisted of a session of 'representations of horizontal and equatorial coordinates'. These Earth Science inquiry activities were found to cause students to have anxiety, and the thought processes that these activities involved were found to cause learning stress. The variations in cortisol concentrations of students increased by $1.6{\pm}5.9ng\;mL^{-1}$ after conducting observational activities in geology compared with $2.1{\pm}6.2ng\;mL^{-1}$ after doing cognitive activities in astronomy. The analysis of the observational activities in the geology inquiry activities indicated that they were consistent with low levels of learning stress. Conversely, the analysis of the cognitive activities in the astronomy inquiry activities showed significant individual variations in cortisol concentrations. Furthermore, individual differences in cognitive ability were reflected in the astronomy inquiry activities. While students, who received high scores, exhibited low levels of stress in the geology inquiry activities, they showed high levels of stress in the astronomy inquiry activities. It was concluded that, in the case of students with high scores in the study, the level of learning stress increased due to the raised anxiety in cognitive inquiry activities. In contrast, students, who received low scores in the study, exhibited high levels of stress in the geology inquiry activities, and low levels of stress in the astronomy inquiry activities.

해양디자인 문제해결을 위한 인지적 프로세스에 관한 실증적 접근 (Empirical approach to Cognitive Process for Problems of Marine Design)

  • 본 연구는 해양문화의 전반적인 가치가 본격화 되고 있는 이 시기에 해양디자인에 대한 디자인적 문제방향을 좀 더 인지과학적인 방향으로 접근 가능한가를 고찰 하였다. 이를 위해 해양디자인 초기 접근방법에 대한 고민과 문제해결과정을 살펴보고 인지적 접근에 의한 디자인 개발방향을 모형화하고자 한다. 연구방법으로 인지과학의 연구방법 가운데 사람의 사고과정을 추적 할 수 있는 프로토콜 분석을 위해 피험자를 선정하여 디자이너의 사고과정 속에서 나타나는 구두조서와 행동조서를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 해양디자인 프로세스에서 발생하는 전문적인 행동패턴을 실증적으로 분석하여 디자이너의 디자인행위에 대한 디자인행위그래프 패턴을 예제로 개발하여 객관적이고 체계적 방식으로 연구하고자 하였다. 이러한 행위그래프는 디자인의 초기 개발방향을 살펴볼 수 있으며 문제 해결을 위한 디자이너의 인지구조를 예측할 수 있었다. 향후 해양디자인을 계획하고 디자인할 때 디자이너의 인지적 방향을 예측하는데 기초자료로 활용할 수 있으리라 판단된다.

초등예비교사의 수학수업에서의 학습과제의 인지적 수준 분석 (An analysis on the level of cognitive demands of mathematical tasks set up by pre-service elementary school teachers)

  • 본 연구는 초등예비교사가 수학수업에서 활용한 과제의 특성을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해서 G교육대학교 3학년에 재학중인 2개반 학생들 중 4주간의 교육실습에서 수학수업을 배정받아 수업을 한 학생들 중 자신의 수업동영상, 수업계획서, 동영상 전사자료를 제출한 50명의 학생들을 연구대상으로 선정하였다. 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 예비교사가 수학수업시간에 활용한 과제의 출처, 과제의 수정여부, 수정방법, 과제의 인지적 요구 수준을 분석하였다.

Wireless Mobile Sensor Networks with Cognitive Radio Based FPGA for Disaster Management

  • The primary objective of this work was to discover a solution for the survival of people in an emergency flood. The geographical information was obtained from remote sensing techniques. Through helpline numbers, people who are in need request support. Although, it cannot be ensured that all the people will acquire the facility. A proper link is required to communicate with people who are at risk in affected areas. Mobile sensor networks with field-programmable gate array (FPGA) self-configurable radios were deployed in damaged areas for communication. Ad-hoc networks do not have a centralized structure. All the mobile nodes deploy a temporary structure and they act as a base station. The mobile nodes are involved in searching the spectrum for channel utilization for better communication. FPGA-based techniques ensure seamless communication for the survivors. Timely help will increase the survival rate. The received signal strength is a vital factor for communication. Cognitive radio ensures channel utilization in an effective manner which results in better signal strength reception. Frequency band selection was carried out with the help of the GRA-MADM method. In this study, an analysis of signal strength for different mobile sensor nodes was performed. FPGA-based implementation showed enhanced outcomes compared to software-based algorithms.

유형화된 자질문법에서의 한국어 분열구문의 전산학적 처리 (Processing Three Types of Korean Cleft Constructions in a Typed Feature Structure Grammar)

  • 한국어 표현 '것'은 실제 언어사용에서도 가장 빈번히 사용되며, 다양한 문법적 기능을 가지고 있다. 영어의 분열문에 상응하는 기능으로도 사용되는 '것'은, 서술(predicational), 동일(identificational), 그리고 사건(eventual) 문열문을 도입할 수 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 '것'을 포함한 세 가지 분열구문에 대한 제약기반 분석을 제공하고, 이를 전산언어학적으로 구현한 결과를 제공한다. 유형화된(typed) 자질구조를 중요한 매개로 사용하는 제약기반 분석 방법은 분열구문에 대한 적절한 통사적, 의미적 처리(parsing) 결과를 제공한다.

색채 감성의 위계 구조에 대한 탐구 (A Study on the Hierarchical Structure of Color Sensibility)

  • 감성에 대한 기존 연구들은 감성 요인들을 추출하는 데에 치중하여 왔으며, 감성의 내적 구조에 큰 관심을 보이지 않았다. 본 연구는 감성에 감각적 측면과 정서적 측면이 있으며, 이들이 대상의 속성을 묘사하는 객관형용사와 경험자의 심리를 묘사는 주관형용사에 각각 상응한다고 보았다. 국어학적 분류와 경험적 평정을 통해 최종 선별된 43 개의 객관형용사 군과 21 개의 주관형용사 군에 대해 요인분석을 하여, 감각적 측면(객관형용사)의 다섯 요인과 정서적 측면(주관형용사)의 세 요인을 추출하였다. 두 측면의 요인점수들에 대한 다중회귀분석을 통해, 감각적 측면과 정서적 측면 간의 위계 구조를 도출하였다. 그 결과 감성의 정서적 측면은 여러 감각적 요인의 결합으로 파악될 수 있었다. 본 연구의 제한점과 의의를 논의하였다.

인지언어 및 메타정의의 관점에서 수학 영재아의 문제해결 프로토콜 분석 (Analysis of Problem-Solving Protocol of Mathematical Gifted Children from Cognitive Linguistic and Meta-affect Viewpoint)

  • 수학적 과정에서 나타나는 언어 구문론적 표현 체계와 정의적 표현 체계 사이에는 긴밀한 상호 작용이 이루어진다. 한편, 수학적 개념 체계도 본질적으로 은유적이므로 언어적 표현을 통해 나타나는 수학적 개념 구조에 대한 분석은 수학 학습에 작용하는 인지 정의적 장애 요인의 근원을 밝히는데 도움이 될 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 수학 영재아의 문제해결 프로토콜을 인지언어와 메타정의의 관점에서 분석하여 텍스트 및 은유의 기능적 특성과 메타정의의 기능적 특성 사이의 관계성을 파악하였다. 그 결과 문제해결의 성공 여부에 따라 수학 영재아의 인지적, 정의적 특성이 반영된 행위의 양상이 서로 다르게 나타났다. 성공적이지 못한 문제해결의 경우에는 성공적인 경우에 비해 내부 표현 체계로서의 은유를 활용하는 행위가 상대적으로 빈번하게 나타났다. 또한 은유의 인지언어학적 측면이 문제해결에 중요하게 작용하면서 동시에 은유라는 외적 표현에는 메타정의적 속성이 긴밀하게 관련되어 나타났다.

도시환경에 대한 시민의 가치도분석 -경주시 사례연구- (An Analytical Research on Cognitive Intensity of Valuation on the Urban Environment -A case study on KyungJu-)

  • This research aimed to analize the cognitive intensity of valuation(C.I.V) on urban environment as a first stage of the works on evaluative urban image under the hypothesis that it could be interpreted with a correlation analysis between the C.I.V and attitude(Satisfaction of unsatisfaction Intensity) toward urban environment. As a method of a study, 118 cognitive elements were selected representing an urban environment, and each of elements was suggested to citizens of Kyungju with 7 point Likert Scale. The analysis of C.I.V was operated under the three criteria: The first, three of urban space scale(urban scale, neighborhood scale, and housing scale), the second, four elements of urban living environment(safety, amenity, healthfulness, and effectiveness), and the last, thirteen urban unit environment(housing, traffic, education, tourism, medical/health, culture, etc.). The results were as follows: C.I.V to each of 118 elements was cleary defined, showing the possibilities of being applied to a method for subjective, or cognitive evaluation on urban environment: It was revealed that citizens'C.I.V was rather higher in non-physical, qualitative elements than in physical and quantitative ones. This shows well the limitation of the objective method of evaluation of urban environment: The results of the others' studies on the image of Kyungju based on the cognitive approach, being focused on the analysis of the visual aspects of urban structure, cultural assets, historic site and tourism, were almost same as this study but it was quite different for this research to reveal well the citizens' cognition on their living environment of traffic, education, medical, etc..

도시형 한옥지구의 녹환경 인식구조에 관한 연구 -도시 주택지 녹환경에 관한 연구(I)- (A Study on the Cognitive Structure of Green Environment of Traditional Urban Residential Areas)

  • This paper is to clarify a cognitive structure of green environment in the traditional urban residential areas. The following is the result of analysis; 1) According to the survey of created actual condition of the green environment, the main space was consisted of court(74%). The percentage of preference locations for green environment at the court and the alley are 71, 60 respectively. The main reason to creat green environment resulted admiration and enjoyment. 2) The degree of $\ulcorner$agreeableness$\lrcorner$ and $\ulcorner$nobleness$\lrcorner$ of the house were increased by creating green environment in a house, and the degree of $\ulcorner$neighborhood$\lrcorner$ and $\ulcorner$familarity$\lrcorner$ were increased by creating green environment out side of house. 3) According to the analysis of a correlation between the degree of satisfaction and the image, $\ulcorner$agreeableness$\lrcorner$ has an interrelation with all factors of image. Therefore, the creating of $\ulcorner$agreeableness$\lrcorner$ is a main problem for raising the whole image of the residential areas.

Bayesian bi-level variable selection for genome-wide survival study

  • Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a clinical syndrome characterized by the onset and evolution of cognitive impairments, often considered a transitional stage to Alzheimer's disease (AD). The genetic traits of MCI patients who experience a rapid progression to AD can enhance early diagnosis capabilities and facilitate drug discovery for AD. While a genome-wide association study (GWAS) is a standard tool for identifying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related to a disease, it fails to detect SNPs with small effect sizes due to stringent control for multiple testing. Additionally, the method does not consider the group structures of SNPs, such as genes or linkage disequilibrium blocks, which can provide valuable insights into the genetic architecture. To address the limitations, we propose a Bayesian bi-level variable selection method that detects SNPs associated with time of conversion from MCI to AD. Our approach integrates group inclusion indicators into an accelerated failure time model to identify important SNP groups. Additionally, we employ data augmentation techniques to impute censored time values using a predictive posterior. We adapt Dirichlet-Laplace shrinkage priors to incorporate the group structure for SNP-level variable selection. In the simulation study, our method outperformed other competing methods regarding variable selection. The analysis of Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) data revealed several genes directly or indirectly related to AD, whereas a classical GWAS did not identify any significant SNPs.
