Analysis of the Difference between Dementia Policy Perception, Dementia Knowledge, Dementia Attitude and Dementia Prevention Behavior according to the General Characteristics of Middle-aged (중년층의 일반적 특성에 따른 치매정책인식, 치매지식, 치매태도 및 치매예방행위 차이분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis of the difference between dementia policy perception, dementia knowledge, dementia attitude and dementia prevention behavior of middle-aged. The subjects were 217 middle-aged in their 40 to 64 years old who lived in D and G cities. The mean sore of were dementia policy perception 75.42±8.52, dementia knowledge 8.71±1.90, dementia attitude 28.55±5.10, dementia prevention behavior 27.04±3.35. Dementia knowledge were significant differences in gender, number of diseases, source of dementia information. Dementia attitudes were significant differences in gender, age, education, dementia in family, dementia living together, job status, early examination, source of dementia information. Dementia prevention behavior were significant difference in dementia living together and early examination. The most category of dementia prevention behavior was 'cigarette smoking(Inverse question)', and blood pressure and diabetes management' were the lowest. Therefore, development of a professional and systematic dementia education program to raise the awareness of dementia policy among middle-aged adults and form the right dementia knowledge and positive dementia attitude. Development of customized dementia prevention behavior programs to maintain cognitive activities, social activities, proper eating habits, and health care is needed.

Interface of Tele-Task Operation for Automated Cultivation of Watermelon in Greenhouse

  • Computer vision technology has been utilized as one of the most powerful tools to automate various agricultural operations. Though it has demonstrated successful results in various applications, the current status of technology is still for behind the human's capability typically for the unstructured and variable task environment. In this paper, a man-machine interactive hybrid decision-making system which utilized a concept of tole-operation was proposed to overcome limitations of computer image processing and cognitive capability. Tasks of greenhouse watermelon cultivation such as pruning, watering, pesticide application, and harvest require identification of target object. Identifying water-melons including position data from the field image is very difficult because of the ambiguity among stems, leaves, shades. and fruits, especially when watermelon is covered partly by leaves or stems. Watermelon identification from the cultivation field image transmitted by wireless was selected to realize the proposed concept. The system was designed such that operator(farmer), computer, and machinery share their roles utilizing their maximum merits to accomplish given tasks successfully. And the developed system was composed of the image monitoring and task control module, wireless remote image acquisition and data transmission module, and man-machine interface module. Once task was selected from the task control and monitoring module, the analog signal of the color image of the field was captured and transmitted to the host computer using R.F. module by wireless. Operator communicated with computer through touch screen interface. And then a sequence of algorithms to identify the location and size of the watermelon was performed based on the local image processing. And the system showed practical and feasible way of automation for the volatile bio-production process.

  • Pain has at least two dimensions such as somatosensory qualities and affect and patients are frequently asked to score the intensity of their pain on a numerical pain rating scale. However, the use of a undimensional scale is questionable in view of the belief, overwhelmingly supported by clinical experience as well as by empirical evidence from multidimensional scaling and other sources, that pain has multidimensions such as sensory-discrimitive, motivational-affective and cognitive-evaluative The study of pain has recently received much attention, especially in understanding its neurophysiology by using new brain imaging techniques, such as positron emission tomography(PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), both of which allow us to visualize brain function in vivo. Also the new brainimaging devices allow us to evaluate the patients pain status and plan To treat patients objectively. Base4 on our findings we presented what are the new brain imaging devices and the results of study by using brain imaging devices.

Effect of N-BACK Program for Cognition, Visual-Perception, Depression, Anxiety, Activity of Daily Living in Stroke Patients (N-BACK 프로그램이 뇌졸중 환자의 인지, 시지각, 우울, 불안과 일상생활활동에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to demonstrate clinical effects on cognition, visual perception, depression, anxiety, and activities of daily living by applying the N-BACK program, a brain stimulated training program, which is used for the clinical purpose. To prove this, subjects suspected of cognitive impairment with 18-23 points in a Korean version of mental status examination (MMSE-K) were recruited among the population who had been diagnosed with stroke duration and suffered from it for six months of duration, and 10 of the subjects were selected into the experimental group and the control group, respectively. A total of 20 sessions were carried out for 30 minutes per day 5 times for 4 weeks. As a result, the experimental group who has been applied the N-BACK program showed positive results in the improvement of cognition, visual perception, depression, anxiety, and daily living skills. The results obtained from this study expect us that applying the N-BACK program for the improvement of cognition, visual perception, depression, and anxiety to stroke patients has a positive effect on the rehabilitation of patients and will lead them to improve daily living activities more independently.

Network Analysis on Associative Words and Definitions of 'Electricity' Terminology of Education University Students (교육대학교 학생들의 '전기' 용어의 연상 단어 및 정의에 대한 네트워크 분석)

  • This research aimed to identify core words used as associative words and definitions for expressing 'electricity' terminology and to find how core ones are activated to form a cognitive structure, using network analysis. The participants targeted 83 university freshmen students in the University of Education located in suburbs. Depending on their gender, whether or not they completed physics in high school, the associative words and definitions were analyzed using the network method, classifying two sections: before-lesson and after-lesson. The result is as follows: At before-lesson associative words for 'electricity' terminology, a slightly different network construction was revealed based on their two properties. However, after the class, they showed similar network structure irrespective of their distinctive characteristics. When it comes to other 'electricity' definitions, before taking the course, they had similar network connection across the gender but based on physics education status, there appeared subtle differences. Ultimately, after the class they demonstrated similar network structure regardless of their features. In conclusion, this paper suggests educational implications on network analysis, which covers 'electricity' terminology of university students.

Working Environments and Working Conditions Affecting Workers' Stress Symptoms (작업환경과 조건이 근로자의 스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • There has been a rapid industrial progress in Korea since 1962 by the success of 5-year economic development plan, and the number of industrial work has also made a rapid increase. Consequently, the management of the occupational health for the purpose of promoting the health of industrial workers and improving the working environment is badly needed in these days. Health services on industrial noisy environment have been provided only for noise-induced hearing loss management until now. But gradually, modem diseases and death have come to be related to the stress and mental health, therefore noise-induced mental disorder, like a stress became very important. Thus, this study has been carried out to analyze the relationship between workers' stress symptoms and the perceived working environment and the perceived working conditions. This study included 786 industrial workers selected from II factories in Buchun. The results were as follows: 1. For demographic characteristics, most of the workers were males(75.7%), the 20~29 years old were 33.8% and those who graduated from high school were 56.1%. The workers whose monthly income ranged from 700,000 to 1,500,000 won were 37.9% and who has a religion were 49.0%. 2. For occupational characteristics, workers who had worked 5~10 years in the factories were 35.8%. Those who felt much for them workload were 42.7% and who worked more than 8 hours a day were 73.7%. Those who were dissatisfied with their pay and job were 51.1 % and 31.2%. The workers who responded ventilation condition of their worksites were bad were 50.4% and the dissatisfied with working environment of their worksites were 43.8%. 3. For the noise exposure level in worksite, workers who were exposed to 70∼90㏈ were 37.4%, 90∼100㏈ were 25.2% and 50∼70㏈ were 18.8%. 4. Workers∼ stress symptoms were significantly related to marital status and their monthly income(P〈0.05). Workers who were single and had lower monthly income showed higher PSI(Psychiatric Symptom Index) scores than those who were married and had higher monthly income. Higher PSI scores were also significantly related to the night-work, workload, dissatisfaction with their job, and bad relationship with their bosses or co-workers. 5. The higher noise exposure level in worksite from 80㏈ was, the more severe stress symptoms including PSI subparts were reported; Anxiety, Anger, Depression, and Cognitive disorder symptom(P〈0.001). 6. According to the results of stepwise multiple regression analysis, factors affecting workers' PSI scores were noise exposure level in worksite(R2=0.150), relationship with coworkers, amount of workload, monthly income and relationship with bosses orderly and the total R2 of this 6 factors was 29.7%.

Association between BMI and Mortality - Kangwha cohort study - (BMI와 사망과의 관련성 - 강화 코호트 연구 -)

  • Objectives : To investigate the association between BMI and Mortality. Methods : This study was based on the analysis and assembly of the 'Kangwha Cohort Study', previously conducted by the Department of Preventive Medicine, Yonsei University. A total of 2,696 males and 3,595 females were followed for almost ten years and ten months from March 1985 to January 1996, a total of whom 2,420 died during this period. The Cox's proportional hazards regression model was used to analyze this data. Results : We found a U-shaped relationship between BMI and mortality among the aged men in the Kangwha cohort. The hazard ratio of dying was adjusted for age, marital status, occupation, self cognitive health level, chronic disease, smoking, and alcohol frequency, then sorted by body mass index into the following groups; less than 10.5, 18.5 to less than 21.0, 21.0 to less than 23.5, 23.5 to less than 26.0 and greater than or equal to 26. The corresponding ratios for men were 1.81(1.50-2.19, 95%CI), 1.31(1.14-1.51, 95%CI), 1.0(referent), 1.05(0.87-1.26, 95%CI) and 1.39(1.09-1.76, 95%CI), respectively. And for women, 1.46(1.19-1.78), 1.12(0.95-1.31, 95%CI), 1.0(referent), 1.00(0.84-1.20, 95%CI) and 1.09(0.89-1.34, 95%CI), respectively. Conclusions : The risk of death among aged men in Kangwha increased in the under and overweight groups. The relationship between BMl and mortality has been well studied in Western populations, but little is known about the association between BMI and mortality in our country. So, on the basis of this study, it is apparent that more studies of the relationship between BMI and mortality will be needed for future work.

Relationship between Stress Symptoms and Health Promoting Behaviors for University Students by the Type of Residence (대학생들의 거주형태에 따른 스트레스 증상과 건강증진행위와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between stress symptoms and health-promoting behaviors (HPB) among two residence groups of university students. Data were collected by questionnaires from 313 students living in a dormitory and 281 students not living in a dormitory. Data were collected from October 21 to November 20, 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Dormitory residents presented higher HPB scores among both genders. For dormitory residents, smoking and drinking affected the HPB, and for non-dormitory residents, scholastic achievement and health status affected the HPB significantly. HPB had significantly negative correlations with depression, anxiety, and anger for dormitory residents and with cognitive disorganization, depression, and anger for non-dormitory residents. The results of multiple regression analysis show that the significant factors for dormitory students in order of importance were depression, anger, and anxiety, and the variance was 67%. For non-dormitory students, the significant factors were depression and anger with a variance of 63%. The results suggest that it is necessary to develop a suitable HPB program for university students.

Effect of Horticultural Therapy on Activities of Daily Living and Interpersonal Relation of Institutionalized Intellectual Disabilities (공동생활시설 내 지적 장애인의 일상생활동작 및 대인관계에 미치는 원예치료의 영향)

  • This study was conducted to clarify the effect of horticultural therapy on activities of daily living and interpersonal relation of institutionalized intellectual disabilities. The experiment was performed with 8 controls and 8 experiments of J institution in Yongdam, Jeju. Horticultural therapy program was performed once a week for 2 hours total 20 times from Mar. 2009 through mid July 2009. Evaluation in activities of daily living indicated that all functions except eating showed no change or worsened in controls, however, all functions except moving were improved in experimental subjects. Interpersonal relation evaluation showed no difference from 42.25 to 42.25 in control, but increased 8.62 points from 41.75 to 50.37 showing very significant change at the level of 99% in experimental subjects. Group activity evaluation increased very significantly at the level of 99% in physical/perceptual abilities, social interaction, cognitive ability, emotion status, and vocational interests. From the above results, horticultural therapy proved effectively in activities of daily living and interpersonal relation of institutionalized intellectual disabilities.

Morphologic Alterations in Amygdala Subregions of Adult Patients with Bipolar Disorder

  • Objectives Previous studies have revealed inconsistent results on amygdala volume in adult bipolar disorder (BD) patients compared to healthy controls (HC). Since the amygdala encompasses multiple subregions, the subtle volume changes in each amygdala nucleus might have not been fully reflected in the measure of the total amygdala volume, causing discrepant results. Thus, we aimed to investigate volume changes in each amygdala subregion and their association with subtypes of BD, lithium use and clinical status of BD. Methods Fifty-five BD patients and 55 HC underwent T1-weighted structural magnetic resonance imaging. We analyzed volumes of the whole amygdala and each amygdala subregion, including the anterior amygdaloid area, cortico-amygdaloid transition area, basal, lateral, accessory basal, central, cortical, medial and paralaminar nuclei using the atlas in the FreeSurfer. The volume difference was analyzed using a one-way analysis of covariance with individual volumes as dependent variables, and age, sex, and total intracranial volume as covariates. Results The volumes of whole right amygdala and subregions including basal nucleus, accessory basal nucleus, anterior amygdaloid area, and cortico-amygdaloid transition area in the right amygdala of BD patients were significantly smaller for the HC group. No significant volume difference between bipolar I disorder and bipolar II disorder was found after the Bonferroni correction. The trend of larger volume in medial nucleus with lithium treatment was not significant after the Bonferroni correction. No significant correlation between illness duration and amygdala volume, and insignificant negative correlation were found between right central nucleus volume and depression severity. Conclusions Significant volume decrements of the whole amygdala, basal nucleus, accessory basal nucleus, anterior amygdaloid area, and cortico-amygdaloid transition area were found in the right hemisphere in adult BD patients, compared to HC group. We postulate that such volume changes are associated with altered functional activity and connectivity of amygdala nuclei in BD.
