Based on advanced research, this study examined the relations between savoring belief and gratitude, and identify a model of the mediating mechanisms of positive affect and cognitive emotion regulation in the relation between savoring belief and gratitude. For this purpose, savoring belief, positive affect, cognitive emotion regulation, and gratitude were measured, among 485 adults. Using a structural equation model, hypothesis and the patterns of variables was confirmed. The results showed that savoring belief, gratitude, positive affect, adaptive cognitive emotion regulation have the positive correlation and savoring belief, gratitude, positive affect was negatively correlated with maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation. The dual mediation effect by positive affect and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation was also verified. Implications for clinical practice, limitations of the study and suggestions for future researches are discussed.
In this article, we conducted a literature review about cognitive aging and social-psychological factors that influence cognitive function in old age. As getting older, cognitive function was mostly seen as declining, even though the effect of aging is differential across domains of cognitive ability. The negative view about cognitive aging might be reflecting social-psychological factors such as age stereotypes. Age stereotypes vary among different cultures, but appear to be negative in general. Negative age stereotypes are related to lower level of memory performances. Older adults who were experimentally presented with positive age stereotypes exhibited better memory performances than those with negative age stereotypes. Self-referent belief, appraisals of one's own cognitive abilities, could also affect actual performance in cognitive tasks. Older adults showed lower self-referent belief than younger adults, and it might explain memory decline in old age. Theoretical explanation and implication about the relationship between social-psychological factors and cognitive abilities were discussed.
The study to improve engineering students' performance in studying physics lacked despite of the importance of studying physics in engineering education. The cognitive belief and the motivational belief in studying physics had a strong effect on studying physics. The purpose of this study was to seek the educational way through comparing professors' expectations with students' beliefs about the cognitive belief and the motivational belief in studying physics. The cognitive belief in studying physics was considered as variables like 'knowledge', 'learning' and 'relation'. The motivational belief in studying physics was considered as variables like 'expectancy' and 'value'. It was the 'expectancy' that was the most different dimension between professors' expectations and students' beliefs. It means that students have little confidence in their abilities to study physics, though professors expect their students to be confident. Professor who teaches physics to engineering students recognize these differences, need to have interest in affective domains of beliefs to teach. In addition, there is need to teaching and learning strategies that can lead engineering students' beliefs about ability to perform the task, the purpose, importance, interesting for physics.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the attitude and influencing factors toward basic life support in the dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 218 dental hygienists in Gwangju. The questionnaire consisted of the general characteristics of the subjects and attitude toward basic life support (BLS). The attitude included cognitive belief, behavioral components, and emotional components. The data were analyzed by independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis by using IBM SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The cognitive belief, behavioral component, and emotional components of attitude toward BLS had higher scores in those who were between 34-34 years old and had more than 10 years of career. Most of them worked in dental clinic and did not earn the BLS certificate. There were positive correlations between the cognitive belief, behavioral components, and emotional components toward BLS. By the regression analysis, cognitive belief toward BLS was positively associated with educational experience within a year, behavioral components, and emotional components. The behavioral components were associated with working between 5-10 years in dental clinic and the emotional components. Conclusions: The attitude toward BLS in the dental hygienists was low in cognitive belief, behavioral components, and emotional components. Therefore, BLS education must be expanded to the dental hygienists.
This study investigated the effect of cognitive narrowing on the consumers' belief biases in the light of the escape theory. Current study researched the relationship between the cognitive narrowing and the consumers' belief biases. The result of this study is as below. The degree of the consumers' belief biases is higher when the degree of the cognitive narrowing is higher than lower. On the basis of this result, theoretical and practical implications were suggested and the limitations and future research were discussed.
Most of expert systems,as a rule-based system, should be convenient to modify a rule and to insert a new rule, which is called modularity of rules. When we think correlated evidences in expert systems. conventional systems are too local to recognize the common origin of the information, and they would update the belief of the hypothesis as if it were supposed by independence soureces. In this paper to overcome such drawbacks we propose Fuzzy Belief Network which is based on the Beysian Network which provide the modulartiy between rules. To build Fuzzy Belief Network, we define nodes and links and propose algorithms for data fusion in individual node and for propagation belief value obtained as a result of data fusion.

Entrepreneurial self-efficacy is an important variable that explains people's attitudes and behaviors toward start-ups. In this study, we focused on individual psychological characteristics variables such as luck in belief and positive cognitive bias that affect entrepreneurial self-efficacy. Among these variables, we paid particular attention to luck in belief. The belief that business success depends on luck is widespread, but scientific verification about it has not been much. The reason for the academic indifference is that luck is a kind of superstition, related to precognition or extrasensory perception, and randomly caused by the external environment. The study of luck began in earnest as a measure to measure luck as an individual characteristic variable such as personality was developed. The purpose of this study is to examine the existing studies on luck in belief and to examine the effect of this luck in belief on positive cognitive bias and entrepreneurial self-efficacy through empirical analysis. For empirical analysis, this study conducted an on-line survey of 400 ordinary people and conducted a structural equation model analysis using AMOS 21.0 to verify the hypothesis. As a result of hypothesis testing, all hypotheses that luck in belief would have a positive effect on positive cognitive bias(self-enhancement bias, illusion of control bias, unrealism optimistic bias) were adopted. The hypothesis that positive cognitive bias(self-enhancement bias, illusion of control bias, unrealistic optimism bias) will have a positive effect on entrepreneurial self-efficacy was also adopted. Additional analysis was conducted to examine the mediating role of positive cognitive bias in the relationship between luck in belief and entrepreneurial self-efficacy, which showed that 'luck in belief→positive cognitive bias →entrepreneurial self-efficacy' were statistically significant. Through this, we confirmed the mediating effect of positive cognitive bias in the relationship between luck in belief and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. In the conclusion, the implications and limitations of the study were presented based on the results of this study.
The purpose of this study was to investigate relations between the congruence of parent-child beliefs and child's perceived competence. The subjects were 138 children (68 eight-year-olds and 70 eleven-year-olds) and their parents. Instruments were the modified Family Belief Interview Schedule (Alessandri & Wozniak, 1987), and Harter's Perceived Competence Scale. Data were analyzed by Pearson's product moment correlation and two-way ANOVA. There were significant differences in child's perceived cognitive competence, social competence and physical competence by degree of congruence between child's belief and maternal belief. Younger children showed a higher level of general self-worth perception while older children showed a lower level. Children who showed a high congruence of beliefs with parents perceived their competence more highly than those with low congruence. This tendency was particularly outstanding in the perception of cognitive competence, implying a positive impact of the congruence of parent-child beliefs on children's perceived cognitive competence.
The purpose of the current study is to investigate how task-irrelevant affective priming affects higher cognitive function. In the study, we selected prime stimuli from International Affective Picture System(IAPS) and examined if they influence participants' performance of syllogistic reasoning task when they are task-irrelevant. In Experiment 1, arousal of IAPS stimuli was controlled while valence of the stimuli was manipulated. In Experiment 2, valence of IAPS stimuli was controlled while arousal of stimuli was manipulated. In both experiments, task-irrelevant affective primes were followed by syllogistic reasoning tasks consisting of three sentences and measured accuracies of task performance. The results showed that valence of affective prime affected logical validity of reasoning and belief-bias whereas arousal of affective primes did not yield any difference. That is, positive valence facilitated logical and analytic processing by reducing belief-bias while arousal did not affect reasoning task performance. These results suggest that dimensions of valence and arousal independently influence higher cognitive function.
Purpose: This study was to examine the relationships between knowledge about osteoporosis and cognitive factors in middle-aged women. Method: The subjects were 293 middle-aged women. Data collection was performed by using a questionnaire that included an Osteoporosis Knowledge Test, Osteoporosis Self-Efficacy Scale and Osteoporosis Health Belief Scale developed by Kim, Horan & Gendler(1991). Data was analyzed using the SPSS Win 10.0 program for descriptive statistics, and the Pearson correlation coefficient. Result: The mean osteoporosis knowledge was 14.0. The subscale means of osteoporosis health belief variables were: susceptibility 15.9, seriousness 17.2, benefits of exercise 22.9, benefits of calcium 21.4, barriers to exercise 20.9, barriers to calcium 22.5, and health motivation 18.6. The mean osteoporosis self-efficacy was 39.3 with a moderate score. There were significantly positive correlations among knowledge about osteoporosis, health belief, and self-efficacy about osteoporosis. Conclusion: Osteoporosis knowledge, health belief, and osteoporosis self-efficacy are related. Therefore, knowledge through education is an important factor in behavioral changes and it contributes to increase the health belief and self-efficacy of osteoporosis.
