Organic drugs including aspirin, omeprazole, and naproxen with three different levels of octanol/water partition coefficient were examined for their release behavior from the amphiphilic PCL-b-PEO-b-PCL (PCEC) matrix. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of PCEC illustrated a well defined two-phase morphology consisted of dispersed poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) domain and continuous polycaprolactone (PCL) phase. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD) experiments veri tied that three model drugs are dissolved as a molecular dispersion in PCEC matrix. The release of hydrophilic aspirin closely followed the water absorption profile of the matrix indicating that its major fraction is present in PEO domain. However, substantial amount of aspirin present in less hydrophilic region displayed discontinuous biphasic release pattern. In the case of omeprazole with intermediate hydrophobicity consistent release behavior was observed for a period of 24 hrs after the rapid liberation of ca. 10% of the drug presumably partitioned in PEO phase. It was ascribed to the fact that the progressive hydration of PCEC matrix gradually increased the chance of drug/water exposure to compensate the exhaustion of device. Naproxen with the highest octanol/water distribution coefficient among three model drugs exhibited a limited release of 35% for 24 hrs. Finally, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose phthalate (HPMCP)/PCEC blend matrix demonstrated an accelerated and quantitative release of hydrophobic naproxen by generating high porosity and thereby expanding polymer/water interface.
We use adaptive method and determine threshold coefficient so that the algorithm could decide a suitable binarization threshold coefficient of the image to detecting a marker; therefore, we solve the light influence on the shadow area and dark region. In order to improve the speed for reducing computation we created Integral Image. The algorithm detects an outline of the image by using canny edge detection for getting damage or obscured markers as it receives the noise removed picture. The strength of the line of the outline is extracted by Hough transform and it extracts the candidate regions corresponding to the coordinates of the corners. Markers extracted using the equation of a straight edge to find the coordinates. By using the equation of straight the algorithm finds the coordinates the corners. of extracted markers. As a result, even if all corners are obscured, the algorithm can find all of them and this was proved through the experiment.
Environmental fate of ionizable organic pollutants such as perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are of increasing interest but has not been well understood because of uncertain values for parameters related with atmospheric interphase partitioning behavior. In the present study, not only the values for air-water partition coefficient (KAW) and dissociation constant (pKa) of PFAAs were induced by adjusting to in situ measurements of air-water distribution coefficient between vapor phase and rainwater but also gas-particle partition coefficients were also estimated using three-phase partitioning model of ionizable organic pollutants, in situ measurements of PFAAs in aerosol and air vapor phase, and obtained parameter values. The pKa values of PFAAs we obtained were close to the minimum values suggested in literature except for perfluorooctane sulfonic acids, and COSMOtherm-modeled KAW values were assessed to more appropriate among suggested values. When applying parameter values we obtained, it was predicted that air particle-associated fate and transport of PFAAs could be negligible and PFAAs could distribute ubiquitously along the transection from urban to rural region by pH-dependent phase transfer in air. Our study is expected to have some implications in prediction of the environmental redistribution of other ionizable organic compounds.
Measurements of the local heat transfer coeffcients on a spherically concave surface with a round impinging jet are presented. The liquid crystal transient method was used for these measurements. This method, which is a variation on the transient method, suddenly exposes a preheated wall to an impinging jet while video recording the response of liquid crystals for the measurement of the surface temperature. The Reynolds numbers used were 1,000, 23,000 and 50,000 and the nozzle-to-jet distance was L/d=2, 4, 6, 8, 10. Presented results are compared to previous measurements for flat plate. In the experiment, the local heat transfer Nusselt numbers on a concave surface are higher than those on a flat plate. Maximum Nusselt number at all region occured at L/d=6 and second maximum in the Nusselt number occured at R/d=2 for both Re=50,000 and Re=23,000 in case of L/d=2 and for only Re=50,000 in case of L/d=4. All other cases exhibit monotonically decreasing value of the Nusselt number along the curved surface.
Transparent xBa(La$_{1}$2/Nb$_{1}$2/)O$_{3}$-(1-x)Pb(Zr, Ti)O$_{3}$ (x=8.5, 9.0[mol.%], Zr/Ti=70/30~40/60) ceramics were fabricated by the two-stage sintering method, the electrooptic properties were investigated with Ba(La$_{1}$2/Nb$_{1}$2/)O$_{3}$ content and Zr/Ti composition ratio. Decreasing the Zr/Ti ratio, the electrooptic property was changed from a quadratic electrooptic effect to a linear electrooptic effcet. In the BLN-PZT 9.0/50/50 specimen having the tetragonal structure, the linear electrooptic coefficient had the highest value of 6.01*10$^{-10}$ [m/V] and in the BLN-PZT 9.0/55/45 specimen which located near the MPB region, the quadratic electrooptic coefficient had the highest value of 10.53*10$^{-16}$ [m$^{2}$/V$^{2}$].
A three dimensional linear frequency-domain lifting surface panel method was used for the aerodynamic analysis of axial flow type micro-fans. As proven by the duct modeling, the tip clearance of the micro-fans tested is large enough to ignore the calculated effect of the duct system. As the numerical results and experimental data agreed well in the operating point region, the method was applicable in the parametric studies to determine the design parameters of axial flow fans. Experiments on micro-fans were carried out based on KS B 6311. The newly designed micro-fan showed improvements in both static pressure rise and volumetric flow rate compared to the existing fans at a given operating condition. No detection of surging and the smooth characteristic curve proved the improvement in performance. To reduce the fan noise in the fan design, it was necessary to make use of the frequency spectrum analysis data. Measurement of sound pressure level for micro-fans was conducted based on KS B 6361 and KS A 0705. The peak - which occurs at blade passage frequency and its higher harmonics due to the fan noise - was not detected. This justifies the design methodology of the blade.
This paper presents the measuring technique for local heat transfer coefficients using a copper sensor in a rod bundle with mixing vanes. A copper sensor consists of a cartridge heater and four pieces of thermocouple. The Heater is located at the center of the copper sensor and thermocouples measure the surface temperature of the copper sensor. Unheated copper sensor and heated copper sensor are able to measure the local heat transfer coefficient at the position where the heated copper sensor is installed. However the entire region of a rod bundle is actually not heated, the decay of local heat transfer coefficients measured represents overestimated value rather than an actual value. The calibration curve for local heat transfer coefficients is presented using the correction factor calculated by CFD.
Gunsan coastal area is one of region increasing pollution problems. To improve water quality, the reduction of these nutrients loads should be indispensible. In this study, the three-dimensional numerical hydrodynamic and ecosystem model were applied to analyze the processes affecting the eutrophication. In field survey, the average concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) and dissolved inorganic phosphorus(DIP) at surface waters were found to be 0.43mg/$\ell$ and 0.03mg/$\ell$ respectively, which were exceeding second grade of water quality criteria. In hydrodynamic modelling, the comparison between the simulated and observed tidal ellipses showed fairly good agreement. The ecosystem model was calibrated with the observed data in study area. The simulated results of DIN were fairly good coincided with the observed values within relative error of 32.39%, correlation coefficient(r) of 0.99. In the case of DIP, the simulated results were fairly good coincided with the observed values within relative error of 24.26%, correlation coefficient(r) of 0.82. The simulations of DIN and DIP concentrations using ecosystem model were performed under the conditions of 20∼80% reductions for pollutant loading. At simulation results, concentration of DIN and DIP were reduced to 20∼80% and under 10% in case of the 80% reduction of pollutant loading, respectively.
A numerical analysis of a turbulent flow with a 'large-eddy breakup device(LEBU)' was performed to investigate the influence of the device on the drag of underwater vehicle using commercial CFD code, FLUENT. In the present study, the vehicle drag was decomposed to skin-friction coefficient(Cf) and pressure coefficient(Cp). The variation of the vehicle Cf and Cp were observed with changing location of the device and Reynolds number. As a result, the device decreased the vehicle Cf because it suppressed the turbulent characteristics behind the device. The larger Reynolds number, the higher reduction effect when the device was placed in front part of, and near the vehicle. On the other hand, the device increased/decreased the vehicle Cp with increasing/decreasing turbulent kinetic energy at recirculating flow region behind the vehicle. The total drag change by the device was caused by Cp rather than Cf.
