The Canopy Transparency Coating Study of Cockpit Temperature Effect Verification (조종실 온도 영향성 검증을 위한 캐노피 투명체 코팅 연구)

  • Under the non-operating exposure condition in the hot area, the T-50 cockpit temperature is expected over the requirement according to T-50 environmental criteria. So it is necessary to protect the cockpit from the high temperature condition during the non-operating exposure because the high temperature of the cockpit may result in the cockpit equipment malfunction. In this study, the transparency coating is selected as the method for protecting the cockpit from the high temperature exposure and analyzed the effect on the cockpit heat load attenuation. Some kinds of cockpit coating were reviewed and selected and the analysis was performed about the effect before and after coating application under 1% hot day condition based on the T-50 FSD hot soaking test data. The result of analysis show transparency coating is so effective to attenuate the heat load of T-50 cockpit.

  • One of the recent trends of cockpit development is to integrate the part of whole cockpit and compartment. The goal of this study is to develop and Analyze User's Convenience for a cockpit prototype based on the design guide of cockpit integration module. The process of this study has been followed analyzing development trend of next generation Automotive cockpit, extracting the design factor needed to making integration module and laying down the design guide of cockpit integration module. After that process, next-generation Automotive cockpit has been embodied as graphical image designing. Henceforth, applying this module to real will be considered after evaluation of utilization. THis study is indicated that one example for evaluation of utilization.

  • A glass cockpit is an aircraft cockpit that features electronic (digital) instrument displays, typically large LCD screens, rather than the traditional style of analog dials and gauges. While a traditional cockpit relies on numerous mechanical gauges to display information, a glass cockpit uses several displays driven by flight management systems, that can be adjusted to display flight information as needed. This study introduces design considerations of electronic display in KAS Part 23 airplanes.

  • Pilot and flight crew visual performance in general aviation aircraft operating is paramount for safe operation of the aircraft. Pilot compartment view, instrument and cockpit lighting forms an essential aspect of this visual performance, and therefore warrants guidance and standardization. This study introduces acceptable design criteria for pilot compartment view, instrument and cockpit illumination for general aviation aircraft.

  • In today's highly automated aircraft, the role of the pilot has changed from an airplane controller to a system manager. As a system manager in a cockpit, today's pilot is in charge of a management-level activity called cockpit task management( CTM). According to earlier studies, pilot errors in performing CTM activities were significant factors in a large number of aircraft accidents and incidents. The primary objective of this research was to reduce CTM-related pilot errors. A prototype pilot- vehicle interface called the cockpit task management system (CTMS) was developed and its effectiveness in improving CTM performance was evaluated. After the CTMS was implemented, it was integrated into a PC-based flight simulator to perform an experiment to evaluate its effectiveness. Eight volunteer subjects were used to collect performance data. The results of the experiment indicated that a statistically significant improvement was observed when the subjects flew with the assistance of the CTMS.

  • On this study, as a Human Factor(HF)'s point of view, typical PVI(Pilot Vehicle Interface) evaluation for small airplane cockpit design, PVI evaluation items and procedures to show compliance to KAS Part 23 "Airworthiness Standards : Normal, Utility, Acrobatic, And Commuter Category Airplanes" are introduced and reviewed. This study is based on the experience of Korean small civil airplane development and certification program.

Investigation of the visual search patterns of the cockpit displays for the ergonomic cockpit design (인간공학적 조종실 설계를 위한 계기 탐색 형태에 관한 연구)

  • There are many display panels in the flight cockpit and pilots get various flight information from those displays. The ergonomic layout of the displays must be determined based upon frequency of use and sequence of use. This study investigated the visual search patterns of the six display groups(one head-up-display: HUD, two multi function displays: MFDs, one engine group: EG, one flight display group: FD and others) in a fighting aircraft. Four expert pilots conducted Imaginary flight in the physical mock-up and the eye movements were collected using eye tracking system. Data of dwell time, frequency of use, and eye movement path were collected. Pilots spent most of time on HUD(55.2%), and others (21.6%), FD(14.2%), right MFD(4.7%), EG(3.2%), and left MFD(1.1%) in descending order. Similarly HUD(42.8%) and others(30.0%) were the most frequently visited displays. These data can be used in the layout of cockpit displays and the determination of optimal visual search pattern.

  • One of the most important works in the development of military aircraft is to construct and utilize the various technical data and information needed in the design, analysis and evaluation under integrated system structure. A vast and various data in oder to optimize cockpit design is needed in geometric & arrangement design, vision analysis and escape system design. In addition, the application of ergonomics cockpit design concept based on the sorts of human elements and anthropometric data as design consideration for pilots is required. To accomplish above these activities, the data gathered and formed through the aircraft development program was become database and developed by tool to be able to support ergonomics cockpit design work.
