This paper explores the effects of price discount frequency on consumer evaluation of clothing brand equity as well as the impact on consumers who exhibit different consumer characteristics. Following a preliminary investigation, two clothing brand groups were identified according to the frequency of their price discounts, one with a high frequency of price discounts, the other with a low frequency. Each brand group consisted of three women's clothing brands. A questionnaire was developed and administered to 351 females between the ages of nineteen and thirty-four in October 2000. The questionnaire included questions on evaluations on clothing brand equity (i.e., perceived quality, brand image, perceived value, reliability and brand knowledge), on consumer characteristics (i.e., clothing knowledge, clothing evaluative criteria, price perception and demographic characteristics), as well as on price discount frequency. Statistical tests, such as factor analysis. t-test and pearson's correlation, were used to analyze the data. Results of this research showed that price discount frequency negatively impacted consumer perception of clothing brand equity. The negative influence was particularly strong on the perceived quality and brand image dimensions of brand equity. The findings also suggested the effect of price discount frequency on consumer assessment of clothing brand equity was related to consumer characteristics as well. The equity of the clothing brand group with a low frequency of price discounts was positively related to clothing knowledge, price-quality inference, price-prestige inference, sale prone-ness. price mavenism, valuing the fashionable and symbolic uses of clothing and family income. On the other hand, it was negatively related to low price consciousness. The equity of the clothing brand group with a high frequency of price discounts was positively related to utilitarian economic aspects of clothing values as well as to low price consciousness. To establish and maintain high brand equity, marketers must pay attention to the frequency of price discount as it may have a negative impact on clothing brand equity.

The purpose of this paper was to present the proximity of clothing to self(PCS) which is a subjective measure developed by Sontag and Lee(2004). PCS is the scale to examine the relationship between self and clothing. Since PCS scale was prepared for American consumers, it is necessary to verify the validity as a measure to Korean consumers. Consumers' quality of life are functionally related to satisfaction with all of life's domain and subdomains. Clothing in life facilitates the creativity and expressiveness to the wearer, especially to adolescent. The concept of bottom-up spillover effect developed by Lee et al.(2002) was adopted as research model. Data were gathered by surveying university students using convenient sampling, 419 questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. It was proved that PCS scale was effective measure to Korean consumers. And also PCS scale could be a proxy indicator in view of the fact that clothing was deeply related to consumers' quality of life.

Women over 20 years-old from metropolitan areas in South Korea participated in the study and a quota sampling method was used. The questionnaire was composed of three sections; importance of quality, degree of satisfaction, and demographic factors. Data from 525 questionnaires were used for the statistical analysis. The results were as follows: First, four factors of service quality(sales person, variety of goods, policy, and facilities) were identified. According to Kano's quality elements, sales person was categorized into both one-dimensional quality and must-be quality, and variety of goods, policy, and facilities categorized into attractive quality. Second, sales person, in all store types, was included in one-dimension quality elements and sales person and variety of goods, in local store, were included in attractive quality element. Service policy, in chain store and local store, was included in attractive quality element. Findings of this study provide both industry and academic researchers with a guide to increase customer satisfaction in the store service strategies.

This research aims to understand the characteristics of well-adapted companies against the quality 4.0 era and to improve the quality of clothing companies. Methods: We analyzed companies that responded well to the quality 4.0 era, especially Kutesmart using Quality 4.0 Matrix. We focused on the service process of Kutesmart and we suggested modified service process to improve quality. We also interviewed an expert to verify this process is valid. Results: We found that two types are classified of well-adapted companies against the quality 4.0 era. Especially, Kutesmart has built a smart factory and introduced new technologies like 3D scanner and big data analysis. However, Kutesmart has a weakness in post-purchase process like other clothing companies. Kutesmart could solve this problem with modular production method for damaged part of customer. Conclusion: This research can be used for better understanding of the characteristics of well-adapted companies against the quality 4.0 era and service process of Kutesmart that is custom clothing company for providing information for benchmarking in this industry. This study suggests that further empirical researches on the costs and the efficiencies of applying the new technologies are necessary.
