  • Unlike a still body in a photograph, the concept of time applies to a moving body wearing clothes. Clothes change shape according to movement, and multidimensional formative observation elements are required to perceive this. Thus, the purpose of this research is to develop a system for observing body movements and clothing. This experimental study was designed based on embodiment research. The first stage of the study derived body movement and clothing observation items from theory. In the second stage, 11 fashion personnel participated in experimental research to verify the observation items and identify those that needed correction or supplementation. The results showed that body movement and clothing observation items can be classified as follows: large moving bodies, moving clothes, body and clothes movement, and body and clothes space. The observation system for body movement and clothes presented can be used to construct the formation of moving clothes.

  • This paper proposes a method for constructing the virtual characters adopting the personal body types for the clothing coordination. At first, the method produces the 38 kinds of the Korean 3D body models considering sex, ages and body types, and constructs model DB. We select a model similar to the personal body size from DB and deform the selected model according to body size. The method deforms the model linearly for height 12 items, width 6 items, depth 5 items and round 13 items, and constructs the personal character fitted to the personal body size. The preprocess for model deformation consists of grouping for body part and establishing the feature points. Linear deformation for each group leads us to easy construction of the virtual personal characters. This method has two advantages as follows: 1. Large reduction of man power, cost and time for DB construction of the body 3D models, since the preprocess permits us to effectively use the various body models whose geometrical structures are different, 2 Suitability to Web-based clothing coordination, since the body deformation method is simple and its speed is very high.

  • This study analyzed satisfaction with and washing of newborn clothing (especially the innerwear washing behaviors) which are considered to be the most basic items among newborn clothing. The survey was conducted on mothers with children under 24 months old. Using an average of 6.7 innerwear items that were changed average 2.3 times a day with baby formula and breast milk representing the main contaminants. When washing clothes for a newborn, respondents were mainly concerned with: rinsing residual detergent, removing stains and contaminants, and sterilization and disinfection. Items were washed by a laundry label to prevent clothes damage. A baby-friendly or environmentally-friendly detergent was used to wash before being worn after purchase was separated and washed in various washing courses of the washing machine every day, boiled, rinsed an average 3.6 times, and dried mainly in the sun. Environmentally friendly cotton (59.5%) and organic cotton (41.6%) products were mainly used; however, items were washed separately from regular laundry. Respondents were satisfied with methods of washing. Consumers are concerned about washing because they think that washing affects a newborn's health. Therefore, it is necessary to provide consumers with appropriate information on washing and establish regulations for the use of harmful substances in newborn clothing and detergents.

  • This study investigated the difference of clothing-behavior for the same occasions in terms of a cross-cultural context. It analyzed clothing items worn by TED speakers via video at TED.com in the US, UK, France, Japan, and South Korea from October to December 2012. An analysis on the 233 videos showed considerable differences among countries. American speakers wore casual items on the top and formal wear on the bottom. Most British speakers wore the same styles on the top and the bottom outfits such as 'formal-top & formal-bottom' or 'casual-top & casual-bottom'. French speakers chose mix and match styles. Japanese and Koreans selected the same styles on the top and the bottom outfits such as 'formal-top & formal-bottom' or 'casual-top & casual-bottom'. In particular, Japanese speakers selected various casual items more than other countries' speakers. Korean senior speakers had a preference to wear more formal clothing and young people liked more casual attachments. This study found that clothing attachments differed by cultural context and generation.

  • For the advance of Korea's ready-made clothes industry into China, we need some information about the body types of the Chinese and the sizes of ready-made clothes. The purpose of this study is to prepare basic data about the reality and process of the size establishment of clothing sizes in China. The conclusions are as follows. 1. Clothing size establishment was made three times in 1981, 1991, and 1997. At present, the version of 'GB/T 1335-1997 Size' is used. 2. 'GB/T 1335-1997 Size' is composed as follows. \circled1 Based on the drop values of chest girth and waist girth, 4 (Y. A, B, C) body types of adult men and women were chosen. \circled2 Sizes contains Ho and Hyoung, 'Ho' refer to height (cm) and serve as the standard of length, while 'Hyoung' indicate chest girth (cm) and act as the standard of girth. \circled3 The size divisions of the 3 basic items for adults are 5cm (height), 4cm (chest girth), and 2cm (waist girth). So they are named '5ㆍ4, 5ㆍ2 size series', \circled4 For grading in dress production, approximate values to the means of the 2 basic items are called 'center types'.\circled5 Other necessary items for clothing design besides 3 basic items are named 'control items'. \circled6 For babies, children, and adolescents, no body type classification is established. Instead, size series are established according to body height.

  • Three dimensional body scan technology is being targeted for utilization in the apparel industry. The purpose of this study was to test reliability of the body scan data targeting from 20 to 24 year old men by comparing 3DM, 3D body-scanning semi-auto measurement extraction method, Scanworx, 3D body-scanning auto measurement extraction method, and traditional anthropometric method. We found significant differences in 9 out of 25 items in upper body measurements using 3DM and 16 out of 25 items using Scanworx. In the range of difference value of scan measures, it showed 1 item in the absolute value of more than 40mm between two measuring methods, 3 items in 20 up to 40mm, and less than 20mm in other items. Overall, in height items, the numerical value of traditional measure was higher and in girth, width, depth items, 3D scan measure was higher. We found out that reliability of 3D measurements taken from whole body scans was different according to scanners, scanning softwares, programs, and subjects.

  • Investigations on the symbolic role, spiritual health benefits and efficacy of the clothing items of the Ga wolomo (chief priest) have received little attention. Highlighting the relevance of these clothes, this paper focuses on the chief priest's dress code for his appointment, confinement, ordination, ceremonial and daily life activities. Data were collected through content analysis, participant observation and interviews with people from selected Ga communities, such as La, Teshie and Ga Mashie. The findings revealed that the selection of the chief priest is confirmed with a special clothing item. His traditional clothes and adornment also have meanings, importance and symbolic interpretations; explained in their uses, colour and style. As the spiritual head, the role of the chief priest's costume is very distinguished and symbolic in executing his duties; protecting, strengthening faith, confidence and assurance during spiritual healing, and when solving pertinent problems in the community. The paper concludes by recommending further research and documentation on other aspects of the Ga clothing culture, such as hand items and hair styles from the pre-colonial period to the present.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop clothing shopping orientation[CSO] scale reflecting the conceptual structure of CSO. For this purpose, a questionnaire composed of comprehensive 85 CSO items was developed through 2-step preliminary tests. Data was collected from two samples. One sample(n=559) was for scale development and the other sample(n=235) was for cross validity test. Descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, exploratory factor analysis, regression analysis, ANOVA, and confirmatory factor analysis were used for data analysis. For each lower-dimension within the CSO conceptual structure model, 1-2 items were selected based on the quantitative and the qualitative standards. As a result, a CSO scale composed of 31 items was developed, and reliability, construct validity, cross validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and criterion validity of the scale were verified. This study has significance in offering the standardized scale to both the academic and the practical fields.
