Purpose: This study was performed to explore and describe the overall clinical practice adaptation experiences among nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This qualitative study applied the grounded theory method by Corbin and Strauss. Data were collected from May to August 2021 through individual in-depth interviews with 14 nursing students from three universities in B metropolitan city. Results: From open coding, 20 sub-categories and 10 categories were identified. Analysis revealed that the core category was the process of "keeping the place of learning while adhering to the restrictions of the era of pandemic" and that it consisted of four phases: confusion, withdrawal, adjustment, and growth. Through this process, participants utilized various action/interactional strategies such as "shifting to positive thinking," "building a shield to protect oneself," and "focusing on learning." The consequences of these strategies were "adapting to the reality of the infectious disease situation" and "strengthening a foothold to grow as a future nurse." Conclusion: An in-depth understanding of nursing students' experiences of adapting to clinical practice during the COVID-19 pandemic will guide nursing educators to promote effective teaching strategies to better support nursing students in a time of infectious disease crisis.
"Gup Yu Bang" is the first Korean book that specialized in pediatrics. It was written by Jo Jeong-jun on the 25th year of King Young Jo in the Choson dynasty. He quoted a lot of information from "Yi-Hak-Yip-Mun" by Yi-cheon in the Myung dynasty and "Xiao Er Yao Zheag Zhi Jue" by Qian Yi in the Song dynasty, but he added his own opinions and clinical experiences to the book. In addition to that, the book explains not only symptoms and prescriptions but also the etiology and pathology of children's diseases. In particular, he showed a great deal of creativity in his book called "Dong Bang Six Fu's Qi Principle" After studying "Gup Yu Bang", I have drawn the following conclusions. 1. Prevention is more important than treatment in pediatrics. 2. When we make a diagnosis, facial inspection has priority. 3. In terms of treatmemt, Wu zang is a general rule. Therefore, we should focus on Wu zang and Pi Wei. 4. The following terms definition symptom cause prescription clinical example prevention are to be explained with reference to the nature or symptoms of the disease. 5. We can see that smallpox was more widspread than the measles in the period of King Young Jo. 6. Even though he was influenced by "Yi-Hak-Yip-Mun", "Xiao Er Yao Zheag Zhi Jue", and "Dong eui bo gam", his own explanation is clearer in his book called "Gup Yu Bang" which is based on his own clinical experiences. 7. "Gup Yu Bang" is a practical and experiential book.
Purpose: This study was done to identify the relationship between experiences of violence, and burnout and job satisfaction of emergency department (ED) nurses and to provide basic information to improve quality of life for nurses and quality of nursing care by increasing the ability of nurses to deal with violent situations and thus, improve job satisfaction. Method: Participants (n=153) were recruited in S and B cities from October 16 to December 22, 2007. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data. Results: Level for ED nurse burnout was 2.54 out of a possible 4, and for ED nurse job satisfaction, 2.81 out of a possible 5. There were significant differences according to sex (t=-3.217, p=.002), total clinical career (F=5.805, p<.05), and clinical career in the ED (F=1.640, p<.01). There was a significant positive correlation between violence experience and burnout (r=.500, p<.001), and significant negative correlations between violence experience and job satisfaction (r=-.300, p<.001), and between burnout and job satisfaction (r=-.492, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings from this study indicate that experiences of violence in the ED decrease work efficiency of the nurses and increase burnout. So, it is important to reduce occurrences of violence in ED and to prepare programs for dealing with violence and providing emotional support in cases of violence directed at nurses.
Purpose: This study aims to examine differences in experiences of violence and hospital violence attitude according to gender and gender-role identity of clinical nurses. Methods: The quota sampling method, was used to select the research subjects. They were divided into two groups male and female nurses who worked for three general hospitals or higher level-hospitals in Incheon and Gyeongbuk. The data of 219 subjects was used for final analysis. The IBM SPSS 22.0 was used to analyze the data t-test and ANOVA. Results: According to gender, the hospital violence experience of female nurses was oserved frequently when the verbal violence came from guardians, and when the physical threats came from others. For male nurses, the experiences of hospital violence was obserbed. According to gender, the hospital violence attitude revealed significant differences in female nurses that the negative attitude was higher (t=-4.69, p<.001). According to gender-role identity, the undifferentiated and femininity showed significant differences (F=4.86 p=.003). Conclusion: The differentiated strategies of coping measures and violence preventive education considering the gender and gender-role identity of clinical nurses would help formulate measures for the effective management of hospital violence.
The aim of this study was to understand and describe experience of nurses who working in general hospital located in Gyeongsangnam-do and leading the clinical nursing practice education for nursing students. A qualitative descriptive method was employed. the data was collected through in-depth interviews until the data sufficiently reached saturation and analyzed through thematic analysis method. Three themes, eight categories, and twenty five sub-categories were identified. Three themes which emerged from data analysis included 'Growing up with students', 'Teaching students without a compass', and 'Balancing in a variety of roles'. The results of this study provide valuable understanding and knowledge of nurses' experiences in clinical nursing practice education of nursing students, which leads to improvement of the quality of clinical education for nursing students.
This is the evaluation report of clinical competence of undergraduate medical students in Plastic Surgery field using OSCE(Objective Structured Clinical Examination) executed in three years. OSCE comprises of assessment of subject, choice of clinical stations sampling, identification of components of clinical competence to be evaluated, the level of performance required, development of specification table, editing of OSCE presentation page and assessment of practicability and results exploitation. About fifty students were examined annually. Seven station stimuli with simulated patient participation were carried out. The mean OSCE score was $82.3{\pm}6.19$. The reliability of the total station was 0.72. The examination shows a positive response to the OSCE. Our experience shows OSCE's feasibility for Plastic Surgery during the initial course of education. Referring to our experiences, the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (KPRS) applied the OSCE test for Korean Plastic Surgery Board Certification

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of new graduate nurses in personal life and in clinical setting during their first year. Methods: Eleven new graduate nurses were interviewed and the data were analyzed using the Giorgi's phenomenological method. Results: The main results of this research were negative experiences such as poor nursing skills, inability to enjoy personal life, physical exhaustion and health problems, and uncertainty of nursing values. On the other hand, there were some positive aspects on their minds: adjustmental/developmental needs, sense of responsibility, receptive capability, and proficiency with their work. They gradually found themselves being endured and changing to adapt. Conclusion: Transition from students to staff nurses is a very stressful experience for new graduate nurses. It may negatively affect their personal lives as well. However they tried to keep themselves positive to overcome their difficulties. It is necessary for them to be given time, a systematic program, and a supportive environment to adapt.

The purpose of this study was to identify the components of the adaptation experiences and factors that help male nurses adapt to clinical nursing settings. The participants were eight male nurses working at general hospitals. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using Giorgi's phenomenological analysis methods. The core components of the adaptation experiences of the participants in clinical nursing settings were summarized as 'dedication to work', 'challenges in reality that are different from expectations', 'establishing a professional identity', and 'self-development for the future'. The relationships between these components showed causative, accelerative, and recursive characteristics. The adaptation process was structured in the temporal context. In order for male nurses to adapt well to clinical nursing settings, policy efforts should be made to improve their working conditions and resolve inequalities, such as granting equal opportunities for promotion regardless of sex. In addition, it is essential for male nurses to have sufficient internal control for them to make self-directed efforts to strengthen their willpower and self-development efforts to facilitate their adaptation. This study suggests that developing suitable strategies and policy efforts based on the results is required to assist male nurses in adapting to clinical nursing settings.
Purpose: This study aimed to enhance the efficiency of clinical training education by understanding paramedic students' perceptions of their hospital clinical training experiences. Methods: The subjects were 31 third paramedic students who participated in a population survey from June 25 to August 13, 2016. A Q card and Q sample distribution chart were created, and the P sample was selected by Q classification. The collected data were analyzed by factorial analysis using PC QUANL. Results: Four different perceptions were identified from the survey, which explained 44.1% of the variables. The four types were classified as Self-improvement-oriented (Type 1), Training-site avoidant (Type 2), Confidence acquiring (Type 3), and Over-willed (Type 4). Conclusion: Paramedic instructors and clinical training managers may want to consider these four perception types when planning clinical training and education programs to improve job performance.
Nurses are at the forefront of providing hands-on care to patients infected with HIV(Human Immunodeficiency Virus). Therefore, appropriate and sensible infection control precaution should be taken at all times. The purpose of this study is to find out nurse's loaming needs about HIV/AIDS ; and nurse's willingness to perform nursing care to HIV/AIDS patients ; and the degree of fellowing universal precautions in nursing care ; and the degree of knowledge of HIV/AIDS to provide information on the guide for the further continuing education. The respondents of this study were 280 nurses in a university hospital in Kwang-Ju city. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed by using percentages, means, Pearson's correlation, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's grouping. The findings were as follows ; 1. The mean age of the nurses was 28.9 years, and the mean duration of their clinical experience was 6.8 years. Majority of the nurses(83.9%) had no experience in taking care of the AIDS patients. 2. The content s nurse's need to learn were showed in order such as clinical manifestations, infection control, patient care, and the mode of transmission of HIV/AIDS. 3. Even though the nurses had quite low knowledge about HIV/AIDS(mean score was 12.2 from the total of 26), they are willing to take care of the AIDS patients (mean score was 39.5 from the total of 60), and the degree of following universal precaution was also not so bad (mean score was 40.8 from the total of 50). 4. Nurses who are over 35 years old and had informal education regarding HIV/AIDS better following universal precautions. Nurses who had over 12 years of clinical experiences have more willingness to perform nursing care to the AIDS patients. Nurses who had experiences in taking care of the AIDS patients were more knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS. These findings suggest that some strategies should be develope to increase the willingness to perform the nursing care to the AIDS patients. And also continuing education program should be develope and run for the clinical nurses so that they can provide effective and appropriate nursing care to the AIDS patients.
