This paper presents critical steps in building client/server application with UML and Visual Basic, which are derived from the implementation case of a typical order processing system. To begin with, we briefly review the software architecture, the diagrams and the object-oriened building process in the UML. In the inception phase, it is critical to define the project charter, to draw use case diagrams, and to construct a preliminary architecture of the application. In the elaboration phase, it is critical to identify classes to be displayed in the class diagram, to develop user interface prototypes for each use case, to construct sequence diagram for each use case, and finally to design an implementation architecture. Steps to construct implementation architecture are given. In the construction phase, it is critical to design both the database and components. Steps to design these components are described in detail. Additionally the way to create the Internet interface is suggested.

Typical multi-tier client/server architecture includes various and complex objects scattered around the network. Those objects must be clearly identified and designed. Then, their interface must be well-defined so that the integration can be done without major difficulties. This paper presents an application framework to increase reuse and to accomplish architectural simplicity in information systems development. Each component of the architecture is identified and designed. The proposed architecture of the application framework provides the fundamental structure for developing individual functions of an information system. Resulting architectural simplicity achieves effective and efficient maintenance throughout the lifecycle of the information systems. Although the framework aims at the reuse within a project, the productivity of information systems development across projects will be greatly improved eventually. Cases are discussed to evaluate the practicality of the architecture presented.

The TLS protocol suite, which provides transport-layer security far the Internet, has been standardized in the IETF. A TLS session is an association between a client and a server, created by the TLS handshake Protocol. Sessions define a set of cryptographic securi쇼 parameters, which can be shared among multiple connections. The TLS protocol, however, does not address the specific method fur how to manage the existing TLS sessions on the host. This paper proposes an efficient management scheme TLS, based on the principles of trust management.

Modern distributed control systems focus on system openness, network system architecture and PC based controller. This paper discusses the embedded systems with ORB for distributed control systems. Embedded systems have merits such as small size, low cost and user convenience. ORB allows users to program easily by using IDL and provides client/server network for heterogeneous platforms. By using embedded systems and ORB, we implement the system and validate it by using VME system. The developed system has benefits when it is applied to distributed control systems.

가상 현실 기술을 적용한 선박 시뮬레이터 시스템의 설계 기법에 관하여 기술한다. 일반적으로 선박은, 선장, 항해사, 도선사, 조타수 등의 다중 작업자에 의해 조종된다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 선박의 특수 환경을 고려하여 가상 현실 선박 시뮬레이터에 적합한 다중 크라이언트-서버 네트워크와 하드웨어 구성을 제안하였다.

This paper presents a solid modeling system that enables real time co-operative modeling and discussion on m between geographically separated designers. The modeling system is implemented using CORBA architecture and integrated in WWW with Java technology. The server objects use a commercial solid modeling kernel to provide modeling features and access database including product model data. The client is implemented using Java2 platform so that enables end-users access the system with web-browsers.

In this paper, MIIS (Medical Image Information System) has been designed and implemented using INGRES RDBMS, which is based on a client/server architecture. The implemented system allows users to register and retrieve patient information, medical images and diagnostic reports. It also provides the function to display these information on workstation windows simultaneously by using the designed menu-driven graphic user interface. The medical image compression/decompression techniques are implemented and integrated into the medical image database system for the efficient data storage and the fast access through the network.

We present the web-based remote monitoring system using distributed object technology. In order to provide the desired functionality, the system has used CORBA(Common Object Request Architecture) and Java Servlet to implement the integrated distributed object environment. It converts the existing standalone machine monitoring system into web-based machine monitoring system. It consists of applet program, CORBA server and CORBA client. The usefulness of our system will be illustrated by the application to ICM(Integrated Condition Monitoring) System developed by KIST Tribology Center.

본 논문에서는 MPOA(multi-protocol over ATM) 망에서 인터넷 차등화 서비스를 지원하기 위한 구조를 설계하고 이를 분석하였다. ATM(asynchronous transfer mode) 기반 서비스로는 UBR(unspecified bit rate)을 확장한 방안을 적용하였고 이에 따라 변화되어야 할 MPC(MPOA client)와 MPS(MPOA server)의 전달 및 제어 구조와 신호 제어 절차를 설계하였다. 또한 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 구조의 ATM 스위치에서 차등화서비스의 지원 가능성을 고찰하고, 트래픽 특성에 따른 차등적 처리 성능을 검증하였다.
