A compression lap splice can be calculated longer than a tension lap splice in high strength concrete according to current design codes. New criteria for the compression lap splice including the effects of concrete strength are required for practical purpose of ultra-high strength concrete. Characteristics of compression lap splice have been extensively investigated and main parameters are derived. In addition, an experimental study has been conducted with column specimens in concrete strength of 40 and 60 MPa. The strength of the compression lap splice consists of bond and end bearing and two contributors are combined. Therefore, combined action of bond and end bearing should be assessed. Compared with tension splices, concrete strength significantly affects the strength of compression splices due to short splice length and existence of end bearing. Test results show that the splice strength can be evaluated to be proportional to square root of compressive strength of concrete. The stress states of concrete surrounding spliced bars govern the strengths of bond and end bearing. Because the axial stress of the concrete is relatively high, the splice strength is not dependent on clear spacing. End bearing strength is not affected by splice length and clear spacing and is expressed with a function of the square root of concrete strength. The failure mode of specimens is similar to side-face blowout of pullout test of anchors and the strength of end bearing can be evaluated using the equation of side-face blowout strength. Because the stresses developed by bond in compression splices are nearly identical to those in tension splices, strength increment of compression splices is attributed to end bearing only.
In spite of the economical and sivicultural importance, tending methods of natural broad leaf tree have not been established in Korea. In the present study, the structure of crown and biomass of Quercus variabilis were analyzed to obtain the basic information on pruning practice. There was not correlated between clear length of sample tree and tree height and D.B.H. The stratum with the largest leaf and branch weight was lower part of the stratum with the largest branch increment. The degree of contribution of branch to knotless trunk production (${\Delta}{\omega}_B(Z)/{\omega}_B(Z)$ and ${\omega}_L(Z)/{\omega}_B(Z)$) decreased from the upper part to the lower part. As an example of the application of the ecological data to pruning practice, the author attempted to estimate the effect of pruning with this experimental stand. Two methods of pruning were investigated. One is the removal of branches according to a definite external indication such as clear length rate of branch, and the other is the removal of barnches according to a definite height.
U-Turn offers convenience to drivers. U-Turn increases efficiency of traffic flow. But Standard of U-Turn is not clear. It caused many problems of traffic flow and traffic safety. This study estimate length between U-Turn location with front intersection based on stopping sight distance and left-turn vehicle's queue length. Variables are used traffic volume and operation speed. This study Analysis of U-Turn vehicle's behaviors and classification of conflict form by investigation. U-Turn length estimating based on relationship analysis between conflict with U-Turn length. Variables are used lane changing angles and operation speed. This study estimates length between U-Turn location with back intersection based on gap acceptance theory. Variables are used traffic volume, operation speed and lane changing angles. So, U-Turn location and length estimated considering traffic flow and traffic safety.

This paper presents some proposed methods for discontinuum analysis with rock discontinuities data acquisited in tunnel design stage. The limit equilibrium method for rock block sliding and falling proposed in this paper can consider the tunnel excavation and support stage, and, to the extent, the standard deviations and means of joint set orientation. Simple Distinct Elemet modelling methods are recommended in estimating the stability of tunnels in jointed rock masses. Because, the simple models are likely to show more consistent and clear than very complex model with finite joint length and joint deviation parameters.
A two-dimensional laminar flow through a channel with a pair of symmetric vertical fins is investigated. At far up- and down-stream from the fins, the plane Poiseuille flow exists in the channel. The Stokes flow for this channel is first investigated analytically and then the other laminar flows by numerical method. For analytic method, the method of eigen function expansion and collocation method are employed. In numerical solution for laminar flows, finite difference method(FDM) is used to obtain vorticity and stream function. From the results, the streamline patterns are shown and the additional pressure drop due to the attached fins and the force exerted on the fin are calculated. It is clear that the force depends on the length of fins and Reynolds number. When the Reynolds number exceeds a critical value, the flow becomes asymmetric. This critical Reynolds number Re/sub c/ depends on the length of the fins.
Although it is suspected that the foreign body sensation on the pharyngoesophageal region is caused by motility disturbance of upper esophageal sphincter, its pathophysiology is not yet clear. Esophageal manometry has become an important diagnostic tool in the evaluation of esophageal motor disorders such as dysfunction of upper esophageal sphincter. Intraluminal esophageal pressures were measured by perfusion manometry in fifteen patients with foreign body sensation on the pharyngoesophageal region and in twenty six controls. In upper esophageal sphincter, mean value of resting pressure of the patients by rapid pull-through technique was 45,9\ulcorner 15.6mmHg and 80.9\ulcorner9.7mmHg in the controls. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant. The distance from nostril to sphincter, length of sphincter, and resting pressure by station pull-through technique were not significantly different. The amplitude of esophageal peristalsis in the patients was reduced significantly at the level of the upper, mid and lower esophagus. The wave duration of the patients was reduced significantly at the level the upper and mid esophagus. The speed showed no difference between two groups. Length and resting pressure of lower esophageal sphincter revealed almost same values in two groups.
It is not always convenient to consider isotropic meshes where the edge length depends on the orientation of the edge. It is desirable to go for anisotropic mesh strategy instead. There are many instances where the solution shows directional features such as great variations along certain directions with less significant changes along other ones. Anisotropic meshes considered to be worthy in these cases. By using anisotropic elements we can resolve the solution accurately with few elements. Many techniques have been used as a common feature that the shape, size and orientation of the triangle elements are controlled by specifying metric tensor. This paper attempts at clear understanding of the estimation and equidistribution of the error and discusses the parameters like reliability and effectivity of an anisotropic mesh in a mathematical manner. Also we study some of applications of anisotropic mesh.

Cochlea is well known to have the ability to analyze a wide frequency and this ability seems to be caused to the Basilar Membrane(BM) configuration. However, the relationship between the Cochlea frequency-position map is not clear. In this paper, the three-dimensional BM Model was made using the Finite Element method. Then, an attempt was made to examine the influence of the BM configuration on the Cochlea frequency-position map. Theoretical consideration reveals that the wide frequency-position of Cochlea is achieved by not only the BM configuration change along the length of the Cochlea but also the change of the Young's module of the BM along the length of the Cochlea.

The difference of two independent binomial proportions is frequently of interest in biomedical research. The interval estimation may be an important tool for the inferential problem. Many confidence intervals have been proposed. They can be classified into the class of exact confidence intervals or the class of approximate confidence intervals. Ore may prefer exact confidence interval s in that they guarantee the minimum coverage probability greater than the nominal confidence level. However, someone, for example Agresti and Coull (1998) claims that "approximation is better than exact." It seems that when sample size is large, the approximate interval is more preferable to the exact interval. However, the choice is not clear when sample, size is small. In this note, an exact confidence and an approximate confidence interval, which were recommended by Santner et al. (2007) and Lee (2006b), respectively, are compared in terms of the coverage probability and the expected length.
