  • Geostationary Ocean Color Imager II (GOCI-II), which are now operated successfully since its launch in 2020, acquires local area images with 12 Level 1B slot images that are sequentially acquired in a 3×4 grid pattern. The boundary areas between the adjacent slots are prone to discontinuity in radiance, which becomes even more clear in the following Level 2 data, and this warrants the precise analysis and correction before the distribution. This study evaluates the relative radiometric biases between the adjacent slots images, by exploiting the overlapped areas across the images. Although it is ideal to derive the statistics from humongous images, this preliminary analysis uses just the scenes acquired at a specific time to understand its general behavior in terms of bias and variance in radiance. Level 1B images of February 21st, 2021 (UTC03 = noon in local time) were selected for the analysis based on the cloud cover, and the radiance statistics were calculated only with the ocean pixels. The results showed that the relative bias is 0~1% in all bands but Band 1 (380 nm), while Band 1 exhibited a larger bias (1~2%). Except for the Band 1 in slot pairs aligned North-South, biases in all direction and in all bands turned out to have biases in the opposite direction that the sun elevation would have caused.

  • SAR satellite can acquire clear imagery regardless of weather and the images are widely used for land management, natural hazard monitoring and many other applications. Automatic image matching technique is necessary for management of a huge amount of SAR data. Nevertheless, it is difficult to assure the accuracy of image matching due to the difference of image-capturing attitude and time. In this paper, we compared performances of MI method, FMT method and SIFT method by applying arbitrary displacement and rotation to TerraSAR-X images and changing resolution of the images. As a result, when the features having specific intensity were distributed well in SAR imagery, MI method could assure 0~2 pixels accuracy even if the images were captured in different geometry. But the accuracy of FMT method was significantly poor for the images having different spatial resolutions and the error was represented by tens or hundreds pixels. Moreover, the ratio of corresponding matching points for SIFT method was only 0~17% and it was difficult for SIFT method to apply to SAR images captured in different geometry.

  • High-resolution satellite imagery is used in diverse fields such as meteorological observation, topography observation, remote sensing (RS), military facility monitoring and protection of cultural heritage. In satellite imagery, low-resolution imagery can take place depending on the conditions of hardware (e.g., optical system, satellite operation altitude, image sensor, etc.) even though the images were obtained from the same satellite imaging system. Once a satellite is launched, the adjustment of the imaging system cannot be done to improve the resolution of the degraded images. Therefore, there should be a way to improve resolution, using the satellite imagery. In this study, a super resolution (SR) algorithm was adopted to improve resolution, using such low-resolution satellite imagery. The SR algorithm is an algorithm which enhances image resolution by matching multiple low-resolution images. In satellite imagery, however, it is difficult to get several images on the same region. To take care of this problem, this study performed the SR algorithm by calibrating geometric changes on images after applying automatic extraction of feature points and projection transform. As a result, a clear edge was found just like the SR results in which feature points were manually obtained.

  • In this paper, we present a vision algorithm and method for input image improvement and preprocessing of dented and raised characters on the sidewall of tires. we define optical condition between reflect coefficient and reflectance by the physical vector calculate. On the contrary this work will recognize the engraved characters using the computer vision technique. Tire input images have all most same grey levels between the characters and backgrounds. The reflectance is little from a tire surface. therefore, it's very difficult segment the characters from the background. Moreover, one side of the character string is raised and the other is dented. So, the captured images are varied with the angle of camera and illumination. For optimum Input images, the angle between camera and illumination was found out to be with in 90$^{\circ}$. In addition, We used complex filtering with low-pass and high-pass band filters to improve input images, for clear input images. Finally we define equation reflect coefficient and reflectance. By doing this, we obtained good images of tires for pattern recognition.

  • In order to classify 3D film images as right or wrong, it is necessary to detect the pattern in a 3D film image. However, if the contrast of the pixels in the 3D film image is low, it is not easy to classify as the right and wrong 3D film images because the pattern in the image might not be clear. In this paper, we propose a method of classifying 3D film images as right or wrong by comparing the width at a specific frequency of each histogram after obtaining the histogram. Since, it is classified using the width of the histogram, the analysis process is not complicated. From the experiment, the histograms of right and wrong 3D film images were distinctly different, and the proposed algorithm reflects these features, and showed that all 3D film images were accurately classified at a specific frequency of the histogram. The performance of the proposed algorithm was verified to be the best through the comparison test with the other methods such as image subtraction, otsu thresholding, canny edge detection, morphological geodesic active contour, and support vector machines, and it was shown that excellent classification accuracy could be obtained without detecting the patterns in 3D film images.

  • Design characteristics of the space depends on the type of design. This study organized gender perceptual characteristics from terminology that is used in the process of obtaining information about corresponding space intended to represent design types and the images which were selected by design experts. The results from the study are concluded as in the followings: First: in the Modern type, the males show "the somewhat high difference of the images" from formality and decoration. Also, the study shows that males perceive very high in "the very high difference of the images" from spatiality, formality, and decoration. Second: in case of modern and minimal types, females perceive the spatiality and the males perceive formality and decoration. This study shows that modern type contains a lot of adjective, which means the man overwhelmingly perceives than the woman perceives in the decoration of modern type. Third: while males in modern and minimal types perceive formality and decoration greatly, they perceive spatiality greatly in natural types. In contrast, females in modern and minimal types perceive spatiality greatly, but perceive decoration slightly larger in natural types. These results tell us that the gender can appear differently depending on which types. This study analyzed gender perception characteristics to the design types, which were selected by a group of design experts. The difference between the types of design occurs in the differences of space sense and image by gender. Through analyzing the differences of spatial types, it is clear that different genders perceive different characteristics.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine whether the panoramic mandibular index (PMI) is useful for assessing bone mineral density. We also analyzed the potential correlations between PMI parameters and patient age. Materials and Methods: Four observers measured the PMI of both sides of the mental foramen using a picture archiving and communication system and images in the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine format. They studied 300 panoramic radiographic images of patients belonging to the following age groups: 40-49 years, 50-59 years, 60-69 years, 70-79 years, and 80-89 years. The observers were allowed to zoom in or out and to adjust the contrast of the images. Further, they were instructed to record the reasons for any measurements that could not be made. Then, we conducted a reliability analysis of the measured PMI and assessed the correlations between different patient age groups and the 3 parameters used for determining the PMI from the available data. Results: Among the 600 data items collected, 23 items were considered unmeasurable by at least 1 observer for the following 4 reasons: postoperative state, lesion, unidentified mental foramen, and alveolar bone loss. The intraobserver reproducibility of the measurable data was 0.611-0.752. The mandibular cortical width (MCW) decreased significantly as patient age increased. Conclusion: PMI had limited usability when the margin of the mental foramen was not clear. In contrast, MCW, a parameter used for determining the PMI, had fewer drawbacks than the PMI with respect to bone mineral density measurements and exhibited a significant correlation with patient age.

  • Sixty four percent of Korean territory consists of forest which is fragile for forest fire. However, it is difficult to detect the disaster-induced damages due to topographic complexity in mountainous areas and harsh weather conditions. For this reason, satellite imaging systems have been widely utilized to detect the damage caused by forest fire. In particular, ground vegetation condition can be estimated from multi-spectral satellite images and change detection technique has been used to detect forest fire damages. However, since Korea has clear four seasons, simple change detection technique has limitation. In this regard, this study applied the NDVI(normalized difference vegetation index) annual cycle modeling technique on time-series of Landsat images from 1991 to 2007 to analyze influence of forest fire of Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do in 2005 on vegetation condition. The encouraging result was obtained when comparing the areas where forest fire occurs with non-damaged areas. The mean value of NDVI was decreased by 0.07 before and after the forest fire. On the other hand, annual variability of NDVI had been increasing and peak value of NDVI was stationary after the forest fire. It is interpreted that understory vegetation was seriously damaged from the forest fire occurred in 2005.

  • Objective : A rare subtype of meningioma, sclerosing meningioma is not included in the current World Health Organization classification of meningiomas and is classified into the category of other morphological variation subtypes. Sclerosing meningioma is often misdiagnosed to other non-benign meningioma or malignant neoplasm, so it is important to diagnose sclerosing type correctly. We analyzed the radiological and clinical characteristics of a series of sclerosing meningiomas. Methods : Twenty-one patients who underwent surgery in one institute with a histopathologically proven sclerosing meningioma were included from 2006 to 2014. Eighteen tumors were diagnosed as a pure sclerosing-type meningioma, and 3 as mixed type. Magnetic resonance image was taken for all patients including contrast enhancement image. Computed tomography (CT) scan was taken for 16 patients. One neuroradiologist and 1 neurosurgeon reviewed all images retrospectively. Results : In the all 16 patients with preoperative CT images, higher attenuation was observed in the meningioma than in the brain parenchyma, and calcification was observed in 11 (69%). In 15 of the 21 patients (71%), a distinctive very low signal intensity appeared as a dark color in T2-weighted images. Nine of these 15 tumors (60%) exhibited heterogeneous enhancement, and 6 (40%) exhibited homogeneous enhancement that was unlike the homogeneous enhancing pattern shown by conventional meningiomas. Ten patients had a clear tumor margin without peritumoral edema. Conclusion : Although these peculiar radiological characteristics are not unique to sclerosing meningioma, we believe that they are distinctive features that may be helpful for distinguishing sclerosing meningioma from other subtypes.

  • Increase of greenhouse gas due to $CO_2$ and CH$_4$ gases would cause the global warming in the atmosphere. According to the global circulation model, it is pointed out in the Okhotsk Sea that the large increase of atmospheric temperature might be occurredin this region by global warming due to the doubling of greenhouse effectgases. Therefore, it is very important to monitor the sea ice extents in the Okhotsk Sea. To improve the sea ice extents and concentration with more highly accuracy, the field experiments have begun to comparewith Airborne Microwave Radiometer (AMR) and video images installed on the aircraft (Beach-200). The sea ice concentration is generally proportional to the brightness temperature and accurate retrieval of sea ice concentration from the brightness temperature is important because of the sensitivity of multi-channel data with the amount of open water in the sea ice pack. During the field experiments of airborned AMR the multi-frequency data suggest that the sea ice concentration is slightly dependending on the sea ice types since the brightness temperature is different between the thin and small piece of sea ice floes, and a large ice flow with different surface signatures. On the basis of classification of two sea ice types, it is cleary distinguished between the thin ice and the large ice floe in the scatter plot of 36.5 and 89.0GHz, but it does not become to make clear of the scatter plot of 18.7 and 36.5GHz Two algorithms that have been used for deriving sea ice concentrations from airbomed multi-channel data are compared. One is the NASA Team Algorithm and the other is the Bootstrap Algorithm. Intrercomparison on both algorithms with the airborned data and sea ice concentration derived from video images bas shown that the Bootstrap Algorithm is more consistent with the binary maps of video images.
