  • Fingerprint classification is a step to increase the efficiency of an 1:N fingerprint recognition system and plays a role to reduce the matching time of fingerprint and to increase accuracy of recognition. It is difficult to classify fingerprints, because the ridge pattern of each fingerprint class has an overlapping characteristic with more than one class, fingerprint images may include a lot of noise and an input condition is an exceptional case. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to design a stochastic model and to accomplish fingerprint classification using a directional characteristic of fingerprints for an effective classification of various qualities. We compute the directional value by searching a fingerprint ridge pixel by pixel and extract a directional characteristic by merging a computed directional value by fixed pixels unit. The modified Markov model of each fingerprint class is generated using Markov model which is a stochastic information extraction and a recognition method by extracted directional characteristic. The weight list of classification model of each class is decided by analyzing the state transition matrixes of the generated Markov model of each class and the optimized value which improves the performance of fingerprint classification using GA (Genetic Algorithm) is estimated. The performance of the optimized classification model by GA is superior to the model before the optimization by the experiment result of applying the fingerprint database of various qualities to the optimized model by GA. And the proposed method effectively achieved fingerprint classification to exceptional input conditions because this approach is independent of the existence and nonexistence of singular points by the result of analyzing the fingerprint database which is used to the experiments.

  • LiDAR technology is a combination of laser ranging, satellite positioning technology and digital image technology for study and determination with high accuracy of the true earth surface features in 3 D. Laser scanning data is typically a points cloud on the ground, including coordinates, altitude and intensity of laser from the object on the ground to the sensor (Wehr & Lohr, 1999). Data from laser scanning can produce products such as digital elevation model (DEM), digital surface model (DSM) and the intensity data. In Vietnam, the LiDAR technology has been applied since 2005. However, the application of LiDAR in Vietnam is mostly for topological mapping and DEM establishment using point cloud 3D coordinate. In this study, another application of LiDAR data are present. The study use the intensity image combine with some other data sets (elevation data, Panchromatic image, RGB image) in Bacgiang City to perform land cover classification using neural network method. The results show that it is possible to obtain land cover classes from LiDAR data. However, the highest accurate classification can be obtained using LiDAR data with other data set and the neural network classification is more appropriate approach to conventional method such as maximum likelyhood classification.

  • Recently, large-scale language models (LPLM) have been shown state-of-the-art performances in various tasks of natural language processing including intent classification. However, fine-tuning LPLM requires much computational cost for training and inference which is not appropriate for dialog system. In this paper, we propose compressed intent classification model for multi-agent in low-resource like CPU. Our method consists of two stages. First, we trained sentence encoder from LPLM then compressed it through knowledge distillation. Second, we trained agent-specific adapter for intent classification. The results of three intent classification datasets show that our method achieved 98% of the accuracy of LPLM with only 21% size of it.

  • It is difficult to predict industrial accidents in the construction industry because many accident factors, such as human-related factors and environment-related factors, affect the accidents. Many studies have analyzed the severity of injuries and types of accidents; however, there were few studies on the prediction of injured body parts. This study aims to develop a classification model to predict the part of the injured body based on accident-related factors. Construction accident cases from June 2018 to July 2021 provided by the Korea Construction Safety Management Integrated Information were collected through web crawling and then preprocessed. A naïve Bayes classifier, one of the supervised learning algorithms, was employed to construct a classification model of the injured body part, which has four categories: 1) torso, 2) upper extremity, 3) head, and 4) lower extremity. The predictor variables are accident type, type of work, facility type, injury source, and activity type. As a result, the average accuracy for each injured body part was 50.4%. The accuracy of the upper extremity and lower extremity was relatively higher than the cases of the torso and head. Unlike the other classifications, such as spam mail filtering, a naïve Bayes classifier does not provide a good classification performance in construction accidents. The reasons are discussed in the study. Based on the results of this study, more detailed guidelines for construction safety management can be provided, which help establish safety measures at the construction site.

  • We propose plain fingerprint classification based on a core stochastic algorithm that effectively uses a core stochastic model, acquiring more fingerprint minutiae and direction, in order to increase matching performance. The proposed core stochastic algorithm uses core presence/absence and contains a ridge direction and distribution map. Simulations show that the fingerprint classification accuracy is improved by more than 14%, on average, compared to other algorithms.

  • Accurate classification of cloud images is a challenging task. Almost all the existing methods rely on hand-crafted feature extraction. Their limitation is low discriminative power. In the recent years, deep learning with convolution neural networks (CNNs), which can auto extract features, has achieved promising results in many computer vision and image understanding fields. However, deep learning approaches usually need large datasets. This paper proposes a deep learning approach for classification of cloud image patches on small datasets. First, we design a suitable deep learning model for small datasets using a CNN, and then we apply data augmentation and dropout regularization techniques to increase the generalization of the model. The experiments for the proposed approach were performed on SWIMCAT small dataset with k-fold cross-validation. The experimental results demonstrated perfect classification accuracy for most classes on every fold, and confirmed both the high accuracy and the robustness of the proposed model.

  • In recent years, one of deep learning models called Deep Belief Network (DBN) which formed by stacking restricted Boltzman machine in a greedy fashion has beed widely used for classification and recognition. With an ability to extracting features of high-level abstraction and deal with higher dimensional data structure, this model has ouperformed outstanding result on image and speech recognition. In this research, we assess the applicability of deep learning in dna classification level. Since the training phase of DBN is costly expensive, specially if deals with DNA sequence with thousand of variables, we introduce a new encoding method, using decimal-binary vector to represent the sequence as input to the model, thereafter compare with one-hot-vector encoding in two datasets. We evaluated our proposed model with different contrastive algorithms which achieved significant improvement for the training speed with comparable classification result. This result has shown a potential of using decimal-binary vector on DBN for DNA sequence to solve other sequence problem in bioinformatics.

  • In this paper, we propose the ensemble-based classification model which extracts just new data patterns from the streaming-data by using clustering and generates new classification models to be added to the ensemble in order to reduce the number of data labeling while it keeps the accuracy of the existing system. The proposed technique performs clustering of similar patterned data from streaming data. It performs the data labeling to each cluster at the point when a certain amount of data has been gathered. The proposed technique applies the K-NN technique to the classification model unit in order to keep the accuracy of the existing system while it uses a small amount of data. The proposed technique is efficient as using about 3% less data comparing with the existing technique as shown the simulation results for benchmarks, thereby using clustering.
