  • In 21th century moving rapidly up to the knowledge and information society, creative problem-solving abilities are preferentially required to engineers. Though there may be various approaches to develop such abilities, PBL instruction method can be an effective alternative to develop such abilities. Recognizing this, one 'JPBL' model was constructed and introduced in this study. The model was developed independently based general existing PBL models and applied to university students to analyze its effectiveness in the aspect of class satisfaction and organizational commitment. Based on results, the meaning and limitation of the model development were discussed.

  • In this study we conducted a research regarding the effect on learning immersion and perception of the learning environment by learning presence of students in the Department of aeronautical science and flight operation in the context of non-face-to-face lectures caused by COVID-19. The relationship between learning presence (cognitive presence, emotional presence, and social presence) and learning commitment showed a high correlation. The learning immersion was also found to increase when cognitive presence, emotional presence, and social presence increased in multiple regression analysis to find out the effects of cognitive presence, emotional presence, and social presence, which are sub-factors of learning presence. The advantage of non-face-to-face classes was to be the ease of learning, and the disadvantage of non-face-to-face classes was the most difficulty of the learning process in the content analysis of the non-face-to-face class environment.

  • This study was conducted to explore whether problem solving ability mediates the effect of flow on the level of task participation in PBL. The subjects of this study were 60 students(in Education methods and technology class). For the study, data were collected through questionnaires on flow, problem-solving ability, and task participation level. Collected data are analyzed using SPSS Macro and bootstrapping method. As a result, the impact of flow was positive on the level of task participation. And the problem solving ability was found to have an indirect effect at the level of .292. Problem solving ability mediates the impact of commitment on the level of participation in the task. The results of these studies are the basis for how to improve the level of participation in the task by supporting problem-solving skills in PBL activities.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the objectivity of scientific knowledge, focusing on Michael Polanyi's epistemology. The objectivity of scientific knowledge could be examined in epistemological and ontological view. The former relates to the rationality, but the latter to the reality. Since the middle of 20th century science philosophers have debated about the objectivity of scientific knowledge. Their opinions are divided three parts by the criteria of objectivity in relation to the rationality. Exactly Objectivism approves the rationality of scientific knowledge, and Falsificationism accepts the panial rationality, but Relativism denies any rationality. In this paper, we will study the objectivity of knowledge in relation to the subjectivity, especially throughout the theory of Kant, Kierkegaard and Wang Yang-ming. Experienced good scientist Polanyi(1946; 1958) have ever suggested the new epistemology as the name of 'personal knowledge'. He argues that scientific knowledge is personal by faith, trust, passions, tacit understanding, method rules embodied in practice. Some implications were discussed for science education from the view of Polanyi. The first holds that science class needs human voice throughout the personal commitment. The second holds that intellectual passions should he recovered. The third holds that the teacher should act like real scientist. Finally, the theory of science education should be established for ourselves.
